Well this is a nice relief for my hopes and bummer for my wallet!

Also this is further proof of proof were needed that letting IP's go and allowing studios to flex their creative muscles periodically is far better than forcing them to run series into the ground.

I can't believe some are saying it's even better than UC4 in both graphics and story.

What a monumental achievement by GG.

Goddammit, preordering on Tuesday along with Persona 5 for the 15 back deal. Guerilla, why did you have to kill it so hard?

Nice! but when will I play this? Zelda will be out just 3 days later. And I'll have to start that immediately, so I might have to hold out on this gem for now :/

I'm so happy for GG.
As a pretty big fan from the KZ2 days it's nice to see them stretch their wings and be rewarded critically for it.

It's nice to know people can really appreciate their technical and artistic talents with Horizon.

The 2.5 is your stock standard outlier. Every big exclusive seems to attract them.

It's kind of annoying. I might need to read it to see if it's full of as much bullshit as most outlier reviews are.

Yep, I hate that this is the norm now. Not that I'm not opposed to having different views on a game, but these things are expected since one outlet always wants to be edgy or something and just score a big game super low. Mind, that drives traffic a ton, too.

Probably confident if they made the embargo this early. Still got a week to advertise this game. Reviews will help.

We knew it was something special when Sony sent copies waaaaay out in advance and the embargo, a full week ahead. That rarely happens now.

Hell I'm about to hit 20 hours and still a ton of stuff left to do in story and extras. Games special man. Feels good! Can't wait for everyone else to start playing it.

Come on USGamer, this just sounds like nit-picking to justify the score...

The side missions in Horizon Zero Dawn are consequentially stale, in that they feel repetitive and pointless to a fault. In one, I help gather supplies for a woman's superpowered gun. I slaughter some people, get the supplies, slaughter more people with the new gun, and then we're pals. In most cases, you're fetching something for someone, you're helping someone fight (whether it's against robots or bandits), or you're finding a missing person. In another, a distressed father worries his daughter has fled to commit suicide, so I investigate to track her whearabouts. In the end she's not dead, just cornered by an alligator-like robot. I kill it, she thanks me, then she sends me to find another person (her lover), who winds up dead. She returns to her father, heartbroken, but alive. Aloy leaves, to likely track down another stranger. Aloy is everyone's reliable hunting cat, with people throwing constant mice at her feet to chase.

I mean, fuck, isn't that most open world games ever? Seems unfair that it's the main complaint of this game. I mean, was anyone going into this game not expecting side quests that involved doing...you know, the main mechanic of the game?

I didn't go into the new Tomb Raider games expecting to NOT kill people.

I've been hyped for this since the concept art leak. How time flies.

This final week of waiting is going to feel so damn long.

:D !!!!! From all the cynicism, psuedo-concern, and poorly drawn out comparisons that surrounded this game, I'm so glad it's reviewing well.

The most important thing though: THE STORY IS GOOD. And that's my biggest relief because if you went by GAF threads of yore, there was so much skepticism surrounding Guerilla's ability to nail the narrative.

Guerilla Games has set the bar while it ventures into a new genre. The game looks phenomenal, and it offers variety, tens of hours of fun and an accessible system. It challenges you in every fight to play intelligently. This may be the best game of 2017.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a bit of a slow burn, but there's more to Guerrilla Games' latest than just its staggeringly pretty graphics. The story surprises as it takes several twists and turns and explores the past, but the games beating heart is with its excellently tense and engaging robotic monster hunting.

It feels like my Pro and 55B6 purchases were worth it.

Have to agree with above. Won't buy a Switch at launch though, saves me some money at least.

People really thought it would get below 85 💀

I really did. I expected GG's first foray into the open-world RPG to have a lot more issues.
I mean, it's going to be a radical shift when you've just been making FPS for over a decade. I imagined them getting these scores with Horizon 2 or something.

But i'm amazed right now.

i still wouldn't believe it. video game reviewers have pretty low standards when it comes to storytelling. not to say that is specifically the case here though - just that i'm still skeptical on that aspect. i'm looking forward to the open world and hunting aspects of horizon. it looks like a lot of fun.
Look who's saying these things, though.

+ Looks stunning (especially on PS4 Pro), fantastic enemy encounters, incredible soundtrack, great design, compelling setting and overarching story.

- NPC facial animations aren't great (but a patch promises to address this), overall narrative sometimes overshadows Aloy's story.

Gamereactor Norway 9/10
Gamereactor Spain 9/10
Gamereactor Finland 9/10
Gamereactor Portugal 9/10
Gamereactor Denmark 9/10
Gamereactor Sweden 8/10

I think 90 is possible, it's what showing up for me now. That Facebook tagline by Eurogamer though: "overly generic". Let the chaos ensue!

If the reviewer think that this is a shitty feature of open world games, it's perfectly reasonable to think that it's also a shitty feature of this game.

what the fuck, almost 60 hours of gameplay and destructiod says its short? dafuq. I was hoping for 10-15 hours, which I still don't even consider too short, heh

Where are you getting 60 hours from?

And I scanned the review, but didn't want to read it for fear of spoilers - where does Destructiod say that 60 hours was too short?

So paging through the positive and negative reviews, my sense is that it structurally is a pretty generic open world game, but the core combat gameplay and design, along with the surrounding resource management system, really puts it a head and shoulders above a genre that is starting to erode upon people.

I am so very pleased to see this especially with a new IP. Bloodborne, Until Dawn, The Last Guardian and now Horizon. Sony have been pretty consistent to deliver quality fresh experiences every year. I'm even more happy it came from Guerilla games, a developer I always doubted and was not willing to give the benefit of the doubt, pat yourselves on the back team, you frigging knocked it out the park 😆

WHAT A FUCKING YEAR SO FAR AND ONLY THE SECOND MONTH!

You can finish the main quest in about 15 hours if you don't let other stuff distract you. Not short idd, but it might feel that way for a game like this

Its nice to see they finally moved on from making the worst Sony first party franchise to make something spectacular.

Good on Guerrilla Games.

Amen to that, I was pretty worried about this game just because I've been so lukewarm on Killzone's gameplay, I'm glad I seen to be wrong here! I'll probably get to this one after I finished Zelda and Yakuza 0 :D
