What other games does horizon compared to, storytelling quality wise? For those who completed the game. I'll be playing it next week. But I'm still very unsure on what type of experience I'm getting myself into. For an example, will it be something near TLOU/U4. Or FFXV...

Fantastic job by GG, glad to see it is reviewing very well. You guys deserve a nice break, and then Back to It for an expansion/ DLC?
Or maybe start on HZD 2 (concept is probably well under way b6 now).

Now onward with a 7 day wait... and got to finish GR2 before next Tuesday!

It sounds like she wasn't able to make it look good in a single screenshot. I've run into that problem many times. Calm down.

Why are you assuming that I'm heated? I'm absolutely calm.
Pictures are often used to backup a statement, in this case her picture paired with the caption is just nonsense.
If she can't find a good picture, fine. Then just mention it without giving a completely unnecessary and unrepresentative example.

Damn, this is some universal praise. Can't say I expected that given the lukewarm reception the Killzone series tended to get from the media. Can't wait.

And believe me, some of the boss machines are huge. You will surely be doomed if you go unprepared as the game places emphasis on planning out the right approach, selecting the best weapon to get the job done and finding weak points of each boss. Interestingly enough, each encounter feels natural and completely its own. No battle with any wild machine or even human feels scripted. The identity of each land, be it lush landscapes or snowy areas plays a role in how each battle plays out. No two beasts fight alike and each battle’s outcome is determined by your own perseverance.

Every machine in Horizon Zero Dawn has an animalistic instinct and feels unique to face off against, and it’s this diversification that makes combat so satisfying. One of my highlights in Horizon Zero Dawn came from strategizing against a
giant t-rex robot equipped with missiles, lasers, radar, and a lethal tail attack.
[...] I strafed around its side, ripped off the cover to its big mechanical heart, ignited a fuel pack with a flaming arrow, and coaxed it into an explosive tripwire I’d manage to lay. It’s nothing short of a delight when your offensive strategy pays off and a machine collapses to the floor, and thanks to a good variety of machines roaming the world, combat stayed compelling throughout my 30-hour playthrough.

Game Rant said:
Horizon offers many different gameplay opportunities, but it is the hunt of these machines – or them hunting you – that highlights what makes the game so special. With so many tools at Aloy’s disposal, from modified bows to tripwire launchers to slingshots, players will be able to create strategies and setup the encounter before actually firing the first arrow.[...] Truly, Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of those rare games where a compliment of weapons, potions, and traps are necessary for success, and very few encounters with the machines feel like pushovers.

The combat sounds so good. A lot of reviewers place a lot emphasis on the importance of having a battle strategy too. This is great stuff.

Now I really wonder how the players will perceive the game. Will the familiar open world design prove too tedious to truly elevate the game to the all-time greats? Or will its visual fidelity, engaging gameplay and apparently good story be enough to dismiss its similarities to other open world games and make it something special?

that's on the individual i think. apparently what they set out to do they succeeded in doing to great degree, so that objectively makes the game a success either way

and the formula can be more personalized, enhanced and expanded upon in sequels

Shadowfall was absolutely terrible and they COD-chased too much with the MP in KZ3. That's why their reputation wasn't as good recently.

TBF, KZSF was an obligatory launch title. It was gonna come out half assed like most of those launch games

not defending the stupidity of 2 and 3's campaign writing of course, but the games were very mechanically snappy and technically accomplished shooters

This game turned out to be better than I expected, and I was really hopeful for it. I look forward to picking it up after I finish Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mass Effect Andromeda.

I personally love KZ3, but KZ2 is a masterpiece. They have always shown that they had the chops and it was a matter of time before it all just bloomed.

Well KZ2 got a really good reception. The other games rightfully got criticised although KZ3 didn't get it that bad. KZ SF was weak.

This looks absolutely stellar though so appears deserving of its praise.

Curious to read the "GAF verdict."

I doubt we will get another Killzone. So all I ask is that we get the Killzone Collection remastered like The Nathan Drake Collection, but with multiplayer from 2 and 3.

Yeah, i wouldn't bank on it.

Regardless of what happens at the register, Guerilla Games doesn’t see itself going back to making linear shooters after working on Horizon Zero Dawn for six years. Unlike Killzone, the story is one of this game’s core pillars, according to de Jonge, and will be an “emotional roller coaster” with a unique premise once gamers play it.

“I worked on four Killzone games… So I know that franchise really well and I wouldn’t mind going back, but I can’t say if we ever are going back,” said de Jonge. “We’ve become better developers and this was a really nice challenge.”

Soooo I've got a week to finish off Gravity Rush 2 before diving into this.
I can't handle two open world games at once (first world gamer problems lol)

Killzone 2 is at 91 metacritic. And no, I will never stop reminding people of the awesomeness that is Killzone 2.

You're god damn right.
The thing with Horizon is GG can finally transfer their skills in art and technology to a new IP.

They also had really interesting lore in Killzone which would be buried under the main story but they've brought that to the fore here going by the reviews.

Oh yeah and Warzone is some of the best MP you could play last gen.

So people who have played it, is it worth the extra $10 for the "digital deluxe" edition? I can't figure out what's going on with that.

I personally love KZ3, but KZ2 is a masterpiece. They have always shown that they had the chops and it was a matter of time before it all just bloomed.

KZ2 was the hottest of garbage. Fights dragged on for way too goddamn long. Made me hate the game.

About time this gen had a new IP that feels like a marker has been put down. Games take longer to make which is fair enough but nice to see a new IP and a great one at that take centre stage instead of old IP.

Hope its alright to ask here but I really just want to know one thing.
Can you explore that fantastical modern city that was shown in one of the trailers?

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Yaasssss Guerilla!!! Wig is gone! 💇🏾Phew!

After months and weeks of people downplaying the f out of this game, I'm so happy to see it finally prove them wrong. This is the first time I have ever felt so happy about a game score, that a lot of people got so colossally wrong, come up and show how it's done. Maybe it's because I'm sentimental to Aloy and maybe it's because I will never forget how some people on this board teared her whole design from her face, to her hair, to even her voice. But I'm glad GG did this and her right. 👏🏾👏🏾 GG

I feel bad for anyone so jaded to look through the reviews/scores/this thread and think "mediocre. " seems like a sad existence.

This game looks fantastic and I can't wait for next week! Unfortunately I work a 24 hour shift Tuesday to Wednesday. So I'll have weds/Thursday to play before I get my Switch Friday. Then I have no idea what I'm gonna do.

Happy for GG. They've had some missteps but have always been very talented and never really got the acknowledgement they deserve.

Hopefully they've found their stride here.

"The consensus" also gave GTA IV the highest review scores of the last generation.

Game reviews didn't count for much back then.

GTA IV was also a massive success and was loved. It's okay to hate a game, but that does not make your opinion the standard in the face of critical acclaim.

It takes at most 7 seconds to capture an image on web and getting the link to share.
The blessing of using a PC. Thanks!!

Um, yeah, I'm familiar with PCs.

The point is that you had to take the screenshot before the person even made their edit to make a comparison screenshot. So in theory you must screencap like every post you see just in case that happens, like in case someone makes an edit. (Unless there's an easy way to access caches or something.)
