Set your Switch User ID now

For those that need a rundown.

Your Nickname is what The general playerbase will see, like in a Mario Kart or Splatoon lobby.

Your User ID is the equivalent of your Nintendo Network ID for 3DS and Wii U, but instead its for the Switch. This is because you are now using a "Nintendo Account", and not your Nintendo Network ID. It will be used for adding friends on the Switch.

Your Nintendo Network ID is used to link your 3DS and Wii U to You Nintendo Account to transfer certain info such as your main Mii data, wallet amount, and probably things like VC purchases or an upgrade option of sorts.

Linknig your Facebook, Twitter, and Google accounts will allow you to add friends via these social media platforms that also have their accounts linked, as well as share screenshots, and in the future share video, as well as scheduling online play sessions and the like.

I think I am correct, but please let me know if im wrong.

I wonder if it lets you change if you're not linked to any device.

I just changed from residentevil2 to biohazard2 and there was no problem.

Nice, grabbed my GAF username. Though I kind of wish I used the opportunity to get a good joke user ID + joke Mii going on. oh well.

If I can login into "My Nintendo" does that mean I have a user ID already?

When I log in to My Nintendo with my NNID name, I can get in?

For those waiting on their verification email, did you first sign in to your NNID or just jump straight in to creating a User ID? Because it says you won't get the verification email if you're using an email already in use. I did the same thing and realized my mistake, and logged into my NNID and selected edit User ID and went from there. It made me reset my password once I was done.

You have to set a user ID via the site. Your NNID username doesn't carry over.

Thank you for this. So, it is possible to have NNID and Nintendo Account passwords be different? Edit: I think it is. It seems like mine are. Weird!

I could have sworn I did this already, but apparently not. Thanks OP! dremorak is a super common username, so thankfully I got there in time.

No not necessarily. You're logging into My Nintendo with your Nintendo Account, via your linked NNID. But you still have to set a User ID.

In fact it's barely there at all dare I say. I couldn't use my normal username for NNID because the word ass was in it twice

My user id was "shit-kicker" for about 5 minutes before I changed it to something more appropriate so I don't get my account banned or something.
I was surprised it let me use that...

Turns out I already had one set up from my Facebook (for Miitomo I guess.) Was able to sign into it no problem and change all my info around to get it ready for Switch. If you're having trouble getting a code, it might be because you already have an account under something.

So I imagine that we'll only be able to set our actual, permanent Switch ID through the console itself, yes?

You can set both using the site:
