Microsoft announced Xbox Game Pass subscription service

Weird people calling out PSNow as a point of comparison. Surely this is more analogous to PSPlus (or indeed, Games with Gold) but with a bigger starting library. PSNow's core point is - or will be - about games without specific hardware rather than simply the library itself.

WOW

whats the yearly cost on this?

Would rather do it yearly like EA access

Also lol, Sony. This ain't no streaming service thank the lord!!!!!

PSNow is an absolute terrible service and value......maybe this will make Sony change pricing and strategy finally on it as well.

Huge news. I expect we'll see more Netflix style memberships for games soon.

So you just get to rent these games, so am I wrong in thinking this is just some sort of glorified demo suite for $10 a month?
You can download the full games for free. It's more like PS+ in that sense, where you don't really "own" the games, but you can play them fully if you have the membership

Oho? Very interesting move. More choice is nothing but a good thing.

Congrats Mr Spencer, I think you just created a new market haha.

Don't like that games cycle in and out though. Otherwise, Sony take notes. Make PS Now monthly and with the ability to download the games.

Maturity, bitches.
Guessing "the catch" is that it'll take a while for new games to appear on it to encourage people to shell out for them because honestly, for $10 a month, you probably wouldn't need to buy games again,

I think it's a great idea, by why announce it now? I feel like it would have been a pretty good E3 announcement.

Horizon is out today, Zelda and Nintendo Hardware is out this week. Microsoft needs a remember us!! And this is a pretty good one.

Fair play seems like a great value add. I don't have an Xbox one but will see what Scorpio has for me.

People expecting launch games? Lolololololol.

No, it's not PS Now. You download the games, so it's like EA access. And the only way I would do this is if it included new releases. As it is? I don't want or need another subscription beyond Live and PS+.

Great idea, especially cycling games in and out. But couldn't they have chosen some better initial examples to highlight the library?

I mean not terrible games, but I'm not like "oh damn, they let us play Terraria??? Gears of War???"

But Soul Caliber II!!

lol, but seriously this is the Netflix-style subscription service many predicted for a while and I guess MS finally got enough publishers on board to make it a reality

very interested in this

So it's like PsNow except good?
Pretty awesome service. Would definitely consider subscribing if I had a X1

Not a fan of this. With a similar service in Origin Access stuff doesn't leave your library.

Pubs probably don't want their games on this service for too long.

This is good tho. Nice to see MS implement something that people have wanted. Of course gotta see how it's implemented but in theory this is awesome.

Sounds awesome but I'm curious:

1) How good the discounts will be for buying the games you want to keep permanently?
2) How transparent they will be about what/when games will cycle in and out?

I would hate to be in the middle of a game and have it yanked out. If there was a good discount and at least one week notice, that would be great.

I think EA Access is generally around a 10% discount, so it covers the cost of subscription basically when you buy a game on top of it.

Yep, it seems like a natural extension of PS Plus or Games with Gold free games.

Marketing cracks me up:

"One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One."

That's like saying, one of the best things about a banana is that it tastes like a banana and you can eat it.

Anyway, awesome stuff. EA Access is a win in my book and I'll subscribe to this probably too.

Well when their competition has a similar service that only lets you stream games, it's not quite so silly!

F@#$ f@#$ f@#$ f@#$ f@#$ f@#$

I seriously hope all you can eat subscriptions don't take off. Still, MS doesn't seem to be wishing to kill regular digital licenses with the discount introduction, so it isn't quite as scary as something like PS Now.

Nintendo! Sony! Steal this idea YESTERDAY! A back catalog of games instantly accessible for a monthly fee? Especially with previous console generations.

Did PS Now change to a flat fee? I thought it was something ridiculous for a 3 hour rental or 24 hour rental or am I miss remembering?

$100/year. 450 games.

Unfortunately its streaming and while it works really well sometimes the lag can be noticeable if your connection is not ideal (or if its not working smoothly on Sony's end).

What's the catch? When something sounds too good to be true...

Probably new games won't be put on it that often? Cause why would you buy games?

I likely won't use it as I have something like 400+ games on 360 and XB1 now. Lol But, this is a really great idea for people with smaller collections. Basically PSNow, but actually good.

They are comparing their service to PS Now which doesn't allow for downloads.
