Final Fantasy VII Remake: Nomura Confirms Combat is Action Based

What be worse than changing the gameplay is if they changed Aeris's name to Aerith. That, I won't stand for.

Not really want I wanted but if it's similar to XV I'll be fine. That was the best combat in the whole series to me.

Fuck. Nomura.
Fuck. Modern FF.
Fuck action based FF.

Hasn't been good since turn based games. Thanks Squenix for shitting in the mouth of the cheering fans who've waited for over a decade for FF7 to be remade. The ones who were around for it are the ones who wanted it back. All we wanted was an HD remake not a complete redo with all the actual gameplay fucking replaced. But hey lets put an FF7 branding on the next Nomura pile and see if folks start to like him then.

Speak for yourself, homeboy

Good.

2017 isn't 1997, and ATB, although fun at the time, is horribly outdated and would stick out like a sore thumb. I can't imagine playing a game like FFVII R with two sides standing rigidly opposite each other, taking turns attacking.

I thought we knew that already.

This isn't FF7, it's just another Compilation game, only this one pretty much retcons the whole previous series.

Have you played the FFXIII trilogy?

Square doesn't really give a shit about their longtime fans anymore so this isn't a surprise.

I'll still try it, but XV is looking less like the first FF I haven't purchased since SNES and more like a hard breaking point from the series for me.

"Start to like" Nomura...as if he didn't deliver the best square enix rpg on handhelds with The World Ends With You on DS

TWEWY is not a RPG, it's a touchscreen based Action RPG.

Now seriously, Nomura didn't direct TWEWY, he only did character designs and provided input as one of the producers.

2017 isn't 1984, and action combat, although fun for Hydlide, is horribly outdated and would stick out like a sore thumb. I can't imagine playing a game like FFVII R where, rather than taking full tactical control over a customizable squad, I just walked in circles around a monster while mashing X.

I mean, it's Nomura's baby and at the end of the day he gets to do his thing with it, but if you're going to argue that newer systems are better you should probably realize that ATB 1.1 is a decade fresher than action.

like i said....the best rpg on handhelds

if it's not that then it's 358/2 Days *hides*

Really hope it's closer to KH2 over FF15. 15's combat is real bad, IMO.

Would prefer turn based of course but I'm fine with action, as long as it's really responsive and fun.(15 wasn't imo)

I just hope its a little more varied than xv, endgame for me became warp strike to win. I dont think turn based is dated at all, x's combat is still my favorite especially with the rappid switching out of party members to fufill roles. Im ok with an action game though, but im trying not to think about this game too much for the next few years til its closer to launch. I dont want the xv cycle again

I recently played FFXV because I rented it on Redbox. I literally had no idea what the hell was going on in every single battle and it felt so sluggish and unresponsive. I don't know if there's supposed to be some "hidden depth" or whatever but even if there was, I'm playing a Final Fantasy game, not DMC or Bayonetta.

I wouldn't be surprised if FFVII:R started, in at least a small part, because SquareEnix noticed how much "desirable" stuff - especially around Insomnia - they were cutting from Versus XIII, and realized that Midgar is a similar enough locale to recycle a lot of ideas and possibly assets.

Yaaassssss!
I mean, I was under the impression it was gonna be more action combat oriented anyway, but hearing confirmation is great! I'll put up with turn base or ATB for a good game, but action-y stuff has always been where my heart lies.

As long as it isn't like XVs combat I'll be ok with action based combat.

If it is like XVs combat I'll just save $100 or whatever the final cost of the game over it's various volumes would cost.

Yeah because brain dead button mashing wasn't a thing before 1997 so that isn't outdated.

I don't really care either way, but if they are going to go full action they could at least have the decency to make it a good action system. FF15 was simply a mess from both perspectives.

Tabata's brand of action is trash compared to Nomura.. the man knows how to do action, have a little faith.

I mean look at the XV we never got before Tabata messed it up.

Sweet. I love turn based and action RPGs, but this was pretty obvious from the get go. Anyone expecting an exact remake is crazy, if that was the case I would rather just replay FFVII with the graphical mods.

"Before Tabata messed it up."

Lol. That narrative is never going to die, is it? That Nomura was well on his way to creating a masterpiece until the position was usurped from him.

If Nomura's FFXV was as good as you think it was then we'd all be playing Nomura's FFXV right now.

Yeah, I'll never ask for a remake ever again.
Another wack FF to add to the collection.

Hahaha. Yeah really. I was salivating at the idea of a game with updated graphics and some tweaks to the gameplay systems. Not a genre shift.

Skip. Anyone saying turn based is outdated clearly doesn't even like the genre.
Certainly haven't played many turn based battle systems. I don't even consider myself a fan of the genre but I've seen decent variety of those. Hell even back in the day other RPGs solved the standing in a line taking it in turns to hit each other appearance.

FF7 but with a battle system more like Grandia would be my ideal.

I'm saying combat wise he changed everything, regardless that game isn't the same one we got. Tabata did what he could and props to him. I'm just saying to associate XV trash combat to Nomura's brand of action is wrong.

For the record I enjoyed the flaw nature of XV all 120hr I put in but that combat is vanilla with sponge enemies and spamming potions.

"Good, it's time for modern system" said many forum members in a forum ready to proclaim Persona 5 as the best jrpg ever.

/fuck this shit, I still want my ATB

How do you guys think this games development is going? I can't shake off the feeling that we're looking at another Versus, for some reason. I hope I'm wrong.

But ATB is there, just look at those gameplay screenshots! It's kind of a mix between real time and ATB I think, while still conserving a very action RPG gameplay.
