No Man's Sky "Path Finder" Content Update announced

Just completed the Technician quest I think (well need to go talk to him again [edit: so it's not the end, just got the second exocraft blueprint]) are they
hinting at MP here?

Spoiling for those who want to find out themselves but I'm gonna explain what I mean:
You're tasked with visiting a monolith and it mentions seeing something other than a Vykeen, Korvax or Gek and it leaves you shook and feeling like something is behind you but when you turn, it's gone. If not MP, then some kind of boss?

That timed buggy mission needs a bit of work. The outpost it told me to rush to was out of range of my buggy by a few minutes, even with constant boosts. Didn't help that I ran out of plutonium halfway through and had no reserves, but there's no way I would've made it in time anyway. Ended up having to walk around until I found a trading outpost to call my ship, then redid the mission by flying there.

I think they should really dial down the plutonium burn rate on the buggy. And I just don't understand why they made plutonium so rare now. It makes getting anywhere more of a pain than it should be.

I used the ship lol.

I thought you could already see previous discoveries..? Maybe I'm misremembering, if not, great to have finally.
You remember correctly.

Just, you know, getting some insane air. The planet I'm on reminds me of Just Cause. very lush, and has variance of rocky mountains, thick grass with woodland/forest (lol), and dunes along beaches. Also some pretty vast seas.

I bought a second ship, just to try it. Just hung out in the hangar of my freighter to see what other ships came in. You then get an option to purchase outright or trade-in your existing ship on the purchase/compare screen.

I think I'm going to outfit the second ship as a fast/nimble warp scout to be able to warp the longest distances and get the lay of the land in each system, and keep my first ship as a the primary workhorse in system.

For someone who has always been kind of terrible at building anything in a video game, is base building fairly easy and uncomplicated?

So this is a first for me. I'm in Creative mode and I found someones discovery planet and left this message.

Even though its not a message but interesting to note that I can block all things from this user or I can report it as well.

This update is a rollercoaster of emotions.

One moment I'm like "this game is so beautiful, I think I'm gonna cry."

Then I land on a lush paradise planet and everything's fine until I turn around

... and suddenly I'm like "the patch made this game so ugly, I think I'm gonna cry."

At least opaque shallow water should get patched out pretty quickly. What I'm afraid of is that Hello Games may want to keep the worst-looking grass in at least two console generation... in a game with otherwise great-looking grass. Hello, plz, lay off the nipnip.

Haha! You should definitely bookmark this planet so you can return in future patches to compare improvements. I'm a huge fan of water worlds so I share your pain about the water effects. I have no idea what they can do about grass though. Cross-hatching looks bad at these kind of angles but fine in most situations, whereas billboards look much better at high angles but can look kinda gross in motion. Even The Witcher 3's grass can look bad at many angles, though I haven't played Horizon: Zero Dawn yet to see if their implementation is any better. I think we're another console generation away from fully solving this problem =(

It didn't bother me before they added ambient occlusion. I always thought that the game's color palette and flat shadows did a great job hiding issues like this, so it only stood out in extremely rare cases. Now they highlight and underline every sprite, making it impossible not to notice.

At least m'space is still pure.

The teleport from your base still only from the last 5 space stations? What would be the best way to free explore while keeping a path to the center? You need go back and use teleport from your most distant point before he leaves the last 5 teleports list?

Has no one noticed that we get stats for vehicles and weapons, but not for our suit? Could that hint towards upgrades later? Maybe making the sprint faster or melee stronger? Or if I'm going to the extreme, it's a hint to a customization of a character. One idea I have is that we'll be able to buy different kinds of suit from the three factions. Science based, with better scanners. Combat based, with better damage and shields. And Gek, I forget what their thing is? Trading and farming? If so, better trading prices and crop yields.

Have they upped the predator animals. I was on survival got caught with pants down by a enemy attack died. I was spawned on nearby planet which was a desert with 4 types of predator animals on surface including a giant t-rex (which would looked cool if it didn't have a pelican head). Planet also had major heat storms so i hide underground where only stash of plutonium seens to be. Well what a shock stalker predator lives underground.

The joy of finally reaching my ship and leaving will never be topped

Yeah. You need to play to get blueprints and more materials to build stuff, but the building is as basic as it can be. You just select what you want, move it aroubd and place it.

Totally jealous of people starting the game fresh now or in the future. It's getting closer and closer to what it was supposed to be at launch (When I played it)

Since this patch everything looks completely washed out. PS4 Pro on Sony X800D. Tried setting Pro to both RGB and YUV420 with HDR. Still looks terrible and I'm not having this problem with other games.

Not sure if this is related to 4.50 or the Pathfinder patch as both updated happened at the same time for me.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep. One more major update and it will go from 'good' to 'great', at least for me. The balance and pacing is much better and there's reasons for everything to exist now.

It just looks crisper and less garish to me. Try the vibrant filter or the classic filter to see if you prefer that look.

I want to like this game, but I have one major gripe with it. On PS4, whatever controller I use, there's no acceleration on the right stick when I look left but there's a lot when I look right.
Might seem minor to some, but it makes the game feel unplayably clunky.

Also, the first time I used the new land vehicles, when I exited the vehicle I got glitched into a wall. That soured me a bit.

Definitely sounds interesting, thought about that as well.

Haven't watched the video but my game is far from a locked 60 :/ Am I struck by that strange fps glitch I keep hearing about? I don't want to restart my game... The new good fps comes and goes as often as I change underwear :lol

the locked 60fps is only when locking the resolution at 1080p on PS4Pro.

So is this game worthy of the price yet? Is alot of what they promised before now in the game? I haven't really been following it since the release controversy.

I like the update but it certainly changes the early game(both positive and negative)

Especially on survivor mode. The new nanites feature is cool, but it takes forever now to feel like you are progressing. Plus, multi tools seem to be much more expensive, so your stuck with the first one longer.

The slower gathering of blueprints and other things does make sense since the game is so huge. However, I feel like I'm basically making little progress with improving myself even after a couple warps. After a few warps, the game starts hitting you with more extreme planets and storm conditions,(first system never seems to have storms).

It certainly seems like it will take a long time now to make progress.

The only main gripe I still have on survival mode is that every "pleasant" planet has the hostile sentinels. It would be nice if a small number of them didn't have that. It would make finding a rare planet that was Earth like but didn't have the crazed robots charging at you every 10 seconds a rewarding experience.(and a cool home planet)

At least the pirate damage has been toned down a bit on survival. I don't need to be hoarding quite as much iron in the early game now to constantly repair my shields.

For those having trouble finding plutonium, I have been noticing for awhile that ice planets often seen to have a fair amount.(Plus the red is easy to spot on the white surface from a distance)

The recent Pro update may be the tipping point that makes me finally buy the upgraded console.

Also why is getting to the center on Permadeath only a silver trophy?(lol) Survivor is only bronze.

Which price? Try and grab it as low as you can. Definitely not 60 or even 40 as it should be found for much cheaper even when not part of a sale (as it is digitally currently).

They should make a quest of sorts that lets you calm down the sentinels.

Even if it's something you need to build at your base it would be fine as you'd be able to set up a nice quiet home. Best of both worlds then.

Yeah, I'd like to see this too. I would want them to be very rare but possible to find.

I think they've tuned down hostile sentinel planets though. Initial survival launch nearly every planet had aggressive sentinels. Sent in some feedback to turn that shit down.

But yeah a super rare resource heavy and passive planet would be a really special find.

Oh wow. I somehow managed to not realize this and assumed that the controls lose sensitivity at random, but it really is just turning right that's sluggish.
How did this happen? Is Sean Murray not an ambi-turner?

I'm thinking about dropping my current base and making g a new one on another planet.

How do I salvage my current base?

I found a planet with tons of creatures, including three different kinds of huge Dinosaur creatures and I want to live there now.

truly101

I got grudge sucked!
So any guesses as to what they'll do next? I'm guessing two more updates, one that is space focused (maybe something to improve combat, mission structure and factions) and the second one will address the flora, fauna and planet forming algorithm. This one I see coming out around the game's 1 year anniversary and will rebuild the universe from scratch.

Phew, I thought it was my controllers were both duds. Funnily enough it's only a problem in NMS but I have a Hori TAC4 keyboard and mouse for my PS4 and that's unaffected.

Yeah, the ambient occlusion really fucked up the landscapes. It looks pretty good when applied to tech and buildings, and maybe that's all they should do. Even with the Vintage filter the landscapes don't look as good as before. There's also a constant shimmering effect when I turn now; I don't know if that's caused by the AO or something else.

This was my home planet in Foundation (if I knew where that was taken I'd do a comparison shot). There's a painterly look with the flat shadows and soft grass textures that they really nailed in Foundation, and don't understand why they have to continue mucking about with the look of the game at this point. My planet still looks ok, but the grass looks more clumpy and everything is over-defined, and the colors aren't quite the same. Some planets I've been to in Path Finder just look garish and straight ugly.

Some screen shots from this planet I found that's loaded with all kinds of crazy shit:

I named this planet "Zootopia" for obvious reasons:
fyADy4u.jpg

Here's another shot from the same planet to show the scale of the one Dino-Alien I found (note the legs of the huge creature on the right of the pic):
HLlkJAa.jpg

Those are the biggest damn creatures I found in NMS to date. You can see them when you're flying over the surface off in the distance.

Holy shit that's amazing. I still hope to see sand creatures whenever I land on a new planet. But I'd love to see something that huge too.

I'd like to know this also. I've not long started the game and been asked to set up an base on planet I didn't choose and don't like. If in move on (which I want to) and end up getting lost, can I salvage what I've already set up or is it lost?

You keep everything. Once you relocate it's all broken down into resources you pick up from the 'previous base' cache.

You do, however, have to put it back together again.

Cool, thanks. Also, what happens to your old ship when you trade for a new one. I bought one from an alien on a space station and my old ship is just sitting there now, unused.

If it's a straight trade, presumably the alien you traded it to now owns it. If you own a freighter, you can also buy a ship without trading your own, so you can have multiple ships.

What tips can you guys give as far as make money in this game? Really want to get freighter soon

Setting up a base with farming gear. You'll have to do some missions for a farmer you recruit to get some good "recipes" to plant good plants.

There is the newly added geknip bud plant you can grow that is straight up weed. You need gek nip, and the blueprint, along with the hydroponic planter and maybe something else, but I think that's a solid entry point and I'm transitioning from the former lucrative lubricant production to nip-nip buds and insulating gel.

the weed doesn't require menu shit to craft something worth more, so it is easier, but insulating gel seems to net the most... but the temerium or whatever takes more than twice as long to bloom as the spadomium or w/e cactus. the gel requires 20 of each, so it's been noticeably slower than mordite farming. I just hate the slog of crafting one at a time and wish I could just mass produce... maybe a future update will add a machine that lets you store something and it just produces the product in stacks.

Just came back after 3 hours of only farming and re-setting up my base for future farming plans. Man that reads like such poop-socking. I really wish I could have multiple bases therefore I could have a plantation on one planet and other base stuff elsewhere. Stupid complexity. Maybe I'll outfit my freighter as a moblie nip-nip dispensary. Easiest way to get varied drug trades going with all those free landing pads in there.

On Reddit, someone has extracted the language file(s) and posted it in a public Google Drive document, which is cool and there's a lot of references to some potential upcoming (or even working features).

One that the game was heavily criticised was
___Portals___
, and their lacking functionality but in the language file indicates there are a lot of references to them being operational and being based on certain criteria being met as indicated by a lot of <if> comments within the text files.

Comment that goes in-depth: Link

Some other stuff that's mentioned;

Code:
[B]CREATURE HOLOGRAM[/B] Creature Hologram A decorative holographic representation of wildlife captured in the user's discovery log.

[B]DANGER: TOXIC RAIN BREACH
DANGER: RADIATION BREACH[/B]

(Emphasis mine)

Also mentioned with the Reddit comments where this is from, "Storm Interference - Launch procedures unavailable" is a potentially cool aspect that not only means that you can't just whizz up and fly away from a bad planet, but it must mean that we should also be able to finally see weather effects during fly-throughs?

Now this is my digging, I've not gotten far into the Path Finder update, so I could be mistaken here.

I've always loved the idea of being able to land on asteroids, rather than just shoot them and explode and we know how massive they are in actuality since the Photo Mode lets us zoom out. For an example, here's one of my screenshots I took.

Here's one that shows the scale of the asteroid versus my Fighter ship;

Within the same file, I searched for 'asteroid' as I was hoping to find something regarding landing asteroids or something more. This is what I found;

Code:
[B]Blaze Javelin Drill Array Sigma
Blaze Javelin Companion Unit[/B]
Improves the Multi-tool's Blaze Javelin Weapon mode mining capability by a small amount so that it can be used to mine asteroids
[B]BLAZE JAVELIN DRILL ARRAY TAU
Blaze Javelin Drill Array Tau
Blaze Javelin Companion Unit[/B]
Improves the Multi-tool's Blaze Javelin Weapon mode mining capability by a moderate amount so that it can be used to mine asteroids
[B]BLAZE JAVELIN DRILL ARRAY THETA
Blaze Javelin Drill Array Theta
Blaze Javelin Companion Unit[/B]
Improves the Multi-tool's Blaze Javelin Weapon mode mining capability by a large amount so that it can be used to mine asteroids
(Emphasis mine)

Now I don't know about this new Blaze Javelin update to the Multi-tool from the Path Finder update, but these specific lines mention that these will add the ability to mine asteroids. The reason I think this hints towards landing on asteroids is this is in regards to the multi-tool for mining asteroid, not ship so it must mean we will be able to land on an asteroid and walk about (thus using the Multi-Tool).
