NieR: Automata Shipments and Digital Sales Exceed One Million

I could see Nier Automata getting to these numbers after a few years, a couple of price drops and the many sales it will be a part of. Its already at a million in one month and the word of mouth is nothing but incredible. I think 2 million life time sales is a given and I could even see something like 2.5 to 3 million.

I don't think so. MGR sold really well on consoles which accounted for the bulk of those sales. Near 80% sales of Nier are on PS4, and I don't feel it can get to an LTD of 2.5 million on PS4. Definitely think total sales of 2 million is a lock.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I can easily see this game racking up a lot of lifetime sales on the PC myself but it will take some steam sales and the like before it does so.

Super happy for Yoko-san and everyone else on the team.

Great game (as expected) but that its done so well critically and commercially is truly a delight.

It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here, considering the original Nier grew in stature year-on-year from its release.

Less than 80% actually, considering these are the shipped copies and the 220k figure on Steamspy is the sold one.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Fantastic news! Finished it the other day and now going back to get the joke endings and all the weapons/archives/programs I missed. Quickly became one of my favorite games ever made.

Damn, first Nioh and now Nier, great numbers for these games! Let's hope more successes are coming for Japanese games.

Exactly, hearing awesome games like those two easily crossing the 1M unit sold mark makes me happy as fuck. This is how we ensure we get more games like this over endless COD/Battlefield/Ubisoft cookie cutter open world.

Nier Automata is fantastic, the gameplay, characters, music, voice acting. It's easily a new classic.

Fake Edit: Oh man, that message from Yoko Taro.

There are no shipped numbers on Steam though. Doesn't really invalidate your point, just pointing out you wouldn't have 'shipped' vs. 'Sold' numbers on Steam.

PS4 will be the bulk is what I was pointing out and hence be more of a determining factor if Nier will ever outsell MGSR.

The difference between PC and PS4 figures will get much closer I am sure. Will it hit 50/50 I don't know, but it isn't going to be even close to the 80% PS4 it currently is. For these reasons:

- The PS4 version has been out a week longer than the PC version
- The PS4 numbers are shipped, the PC numbers are almost entirely sold to consumers.
- PC games typically have much longer legs than on console.
- The PC version is not yet released in Asia

In a couple of years, I could see Nier selling 750k-1m on PC if the good word of mouth continues and PG put out an official patch.

my buddy was watching me play it over the weekend glancing at my screen time to time.

He was wondering what the hell it was, his comments were

"combat looks sleek fast and smooth, you um, going to have to let me try that when you're done"

Can I have a Nier and Drakengard remaster now please?

I do wonder how Nier 1 would be received now, not only for the worse combat, but the different routes and what they do with it probably won't hit as hard if you are familiar with this in Nier 2.

I feel like it was more a product of it's time.

Not really, Nier is still great.

Taro has been doing the different routes/endings thing since the very first Drakengard, so it was nothing new even with the first Nier. They pack a big punch regardless.

I think the bigger focus on the chracter drama would still appeal to a lot of people.

There are physical PC versions which activates on Steam. Which further enhance that not only the poibt of comparison is sold vs shipped, but you also have shipped vs sold for the PC version too.

Nah, Nier is still Yoko Taro's best game.

Pretty good, a little slower than Nioh

Considering it doesn't have the Souls/Ninja Gaiden audience behind it, I think that's still an accomplishment. We Drakenier fans shout from the high heavens how much we love Taro, but we were still few in number.
