I'm super excited to play this, but 80 bucks Canadian on Steam is oooofgggh. Hoping for at least a small sale around Black Friday.

It's crazy that the Drakengard family of titles now includes a game that sold over 600k copies in the west within the first 3 weeks of release.
Automata will have a long tail on PC and probably PS4 digital. It would be cool to get a remastered version of the first game for PS4/PC.

It seems weird to me to say thank the PC for the million sales when almost a million copies were sold on PS4 alone. Even if they old sold 1,000,001, the bare minimum to have exceeded a million copies, they moved close to 800k on PS4 by itself.
A 4:1 PS4
C ratio on a Japanese game with a delayed, full-price PC release sounds pretty good for the PC to me.

My favorite game of all time. There is one thing that I wonder about, though.
I decided to get the physical copy of this game. I usually go digital, but I wanted the box art for this game. I went to Walmart to pick the game up the day of release, and they hadn't gotten a single copy in. I went to Gamestop the day after release. No posters, no mention of the game inside the store, it wasn't sitting on the shelf behind the register desk, and when I asked about the game, the worker was a little confused. He looked around and the only copy they had was the one in the sleeve as they got one copy in and that case went on the shelf.
Where was the marketing at? This is in Columbus, OH so not exactly a small place where stuff is hard to find. They have sold over 1 million copies of a game that they barely even bothered to market in the US, and then had extremely limited supply.
Hoping word of mouth helps it even further, but I have no idea if supply has gotten better over here or if the marketing team has actually done anything at all.

Okay, to add to my every growing Nier surreal list - a) I still can't believe we got a Nier sequel, b) a Nier sequel made by Platinum, c) a sequel that was critically acclaimed, d) a Nier sequel that was amazing, e) a Nier sequel whose shipments and sales exceeded one million.
Before playing Automata, I thought a Nier remake would sadly be a bit superfluous. After Automata, their focus is just so different, that I don't think it would be. Nier is so character driven, where as Automata is more thematically driven. Gimme.

Actually I agree entirely with your point; the thing is though replacing the evade/counter system with a blocking system would very likely change the feel to be suitably "heavy".
To be truthful though, I'm not sure I would want a rebuilt Nier. I think I'd probably feel happier with a straight port with improved performance. The original game is something really special, and I'd hate for that to be lost.
Not to mention I'd like to see Yoko/Platinum working on something new together.

That's great. I'd love to see more AA games from Squeenix. This game had, what, maybe 2 years at most between announce and release? And it's absolutely amazing, looks great. Even if they don't feel comfortable giving mainline Final Fantasy anything less than AAA treatment, there are so many other IPs that would work well with a smaller scope and budget.

I'm glad this game is doing well. It's so deserving.
Best combat in an ARPG (including shooters), working flawlessly within an open-world space (it's so wonderful and easy to weave in and out of combat situations), stuffed full of fresh and adult subject matter, with gorgeous aesthetics, and made apparently on a shoestring budget. It's easy to forgive any failings.
Best showing from Square Enix Japan in a long long long time. Made me feel like a kid with a PSone and a big Square catalog again.

JRPGs stopped trying to be something that they're not (ignoring Final Fantasy). I think it's fantastic that they're finding a not-so-niche audience once again.
We're truly in the JRPG renaissance.

I honestly think Automata has some Dark Souls 1-like sales in it.
Coming from someone who doesn't enjoy half-naked men, with covered eyes, showing their butt...it's still Yoko Taro + Platinum.
