ARMS launches June 16

I'm not 100% sold on it, but the game certainly looks more appealing than it did at the Switch presentation. Maybe I need to get my hands on it to see if it clicks, I hope there's a demo.

I'm pretty hyped for this since they showed that it has more depth than what was initially revealed.

Cautiously predicting Pokken Tournament for Wii U level of sales at the moment.

10 seems like a good number the arms abilities are the main alterations to the gameplay styles anyway. All it needs is a good number and variety of maps (ideally some larger ones), decnt number of arms, a reasonable length and quality single player campaign and a few different modes and it would be worth it's price of admission for a fighting game. Ideally long term free dlc like splatoon too.

I wonder how many characters there'll be. I see max 16 and probably 12 minimum.

Hopefully 9 or 16. However thats just a personal quirk.

I feel like square numbers are the best way of balancing a roster. If on one axis you have short to long and on the other axis you have light to heavy. Each axis has opposite stats that reflect a fighters abilities. Ie being tall boosts reach/length but costs agility. Being Heavy gains strength and defense but costs costs overall speed ect.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Art design wise im really happy what we have seen so far....leaves an even better impression than Splatoon initially. 2 vs 2 looks rad as well.

Minmin is kinda cool, but I was hoping for at least one more character reveal. Also only a target break single player mode revealed so far.
Announcer dude looks like a Splatoon reject and doesn't seem to fit what we've seen so far. Not sure about all characters having access to all arms either.

I'm only disappointed because of how much I'm looking forward to this game.

No, they've mentioned there's single player but we don't know what that entails yet, outside of the training minigame we've seen and, probable, fights against the CPU. Not sure if there's any sort of story mode.

I don't think people should get too hung up on character count when the variety in gameplay is going to stem from what looks like a huge assortments of arms and combinations of said arms.

Game seems a bit deeper than I was initially expecting. Still isn't doing anything for me after watching the video but for games like this, I need to play a demo to get a real feel for it and see if I like it.

You know what. I totally skipped this halfway througg yesterday because I didn't think I'd be interested in it. But after sleeping on it and watching the whole presentation again this morning, I gotta say: this looks dope as shit.

I had no interest in the game really until the Direct yesterday. It looks like it could be a lot of fun.

The game was really fun to play at the Nintendo press event at the Apollo. Had around 4 matches, the only annoying thing was sometimes when you try move out the way (left or right) it won't register when you want it to (this started to become quite annoying and focused more on the offensive in the end).

Fun and addictive, but after thinking more, I might give it a miss with actually buying it. I can see it being one of those games I'll play a lot for a few days then not go back to it much. Not sure I want to come home from work to start punching with Joy-Cons.

I did really like how you could attach separate gloves on each hand which have different properties though, and was very rewarding when you win :)

This game looks awesome, love it, just hope it'll launch with online support, playing only vs CPU would kill my hype for day one purchase, local multiplayer is fine but not an option for me, you need another 2 joycons and friends to play with

I don't see why it wouldn't?

You don't have to use motion controls.

You don't have to use motion controls.

Well then that would be fine for dodging out the way and defending then! Didn't realise you could play without the motion controls, as I thought that was the main selling point of the game. That's great to hear :)

One thing I did love with the motion was actually throwing the punches though, was very accurate, especially when you wanted to curve your punches. Actually landing a hit felt great ;) especially when you're in the same room as your opponent and can see his/her reaction haha.

While the game looks cool and I dig the art style, something about the movement/animations looks stiff and dated. I wish they looked more fluid and "rounder".

For example, when you move left and right, your character just takes miniature steps. It all looks a bit, dare I say, PS2-ish or as if the engine is lifted directly from Wii Boxing.

Reading this made me realize I want a character that floats. Maybe a ghost or something with spectral arms. Or someone riding in a cloud.

While they're at it might as well make a BotW guardian-inspired character.

There's 10 known but I find it hard to see them release a fighter with only that many characters. Especially with a 4-player mode.

I wouldn't be surprised if they released newer characters if the game takes off. The combat system seems to be the big thing and that appears solid. Additional characters that have their one unique aspect should be easier by comparison to add.

I imagine that's by design keep in mind the travel speeds of punches and the fact you can curve punches mid flight. If you could dodge faster and move a more substantial amount it would be way more difficult to actually land his. Also the movement capabilities in this trailer and exactly fully shown off their's a far bit you'd notice in other gameplay matches like grapples and air dodges that are barely used or not used at all in this demonstration.

Played it at switch launch event - It one of those games you dont get till you play, like most Nintendo 'sports' games really. i.e Splatoon looks weird AF, but is really fun.

From my time with arms, it is much more enjoyable to play than a trailer can really show. The motion controls are genuinely satisfying, and its defiantly got depth in tactics and technique.

No one should write it off. They should DEFINITELY have a test fire type beta tho because first hand experience makes a real difference with this one

Skullgirls only had 8 at launch. That's why I believe 8 would be a good starting number for a roster, especially since this game is close to release.

May I have a cookie?
Min Min is obviously glorious but also Loved BIFF! Couldn't stop smiling the instant he popped on screen :D

An ultra hand is a must have for this.
Also hoping for little Mac and Samus cameos.
Would still like to see a more substantial single player campaign - break the targets doesn't cut it for me, especially when practically each one of these characters has the design and charisma worthy of their own game!
Still need to understand the element system better, currently unsure if it's something tacked on or genuinely adds depth.

True, but Skullgirls was also an hand-drawn indie game that got screwed over by Konami along the way (#FucKonami, for the record). ARMS is a AAA Nintendo game that seems to be a launch pillar trusted to sell alongside Mario Kart, Zelda, & Splatoon, so there's more money & resources here.

That said, ARMS seems to be putting the emphasis on the, well, arms being the core part of the character choice, so I can see it having a relatively-small base roster of 10 w/ regular updates ala Splatoon that may add free characters over time.

The character models are fantastic. This is the only Switch game so far that looks significantly better than any 1st party WiiU game. The low detail backgrounds and smaller arenas must help a lot.

The best idea for an unreleased game that hardly anyone has played is to ha e the game be played in the biggest gaming event of the year just a couple of weeks before its released.

This is almost a spiritual successor to virtual on. And if one day we get that game on switch I will thank this game for it. But you know, if all you are interested in is to be wowed by some cgi trailer then it's up to you.

This game could be the next smash brothers or the next splatter for all we know.

If they get little mac in there as a cameo it would be a bonus.

Although E3 is open to the public this year, there's no saying what kind of turnout it's going to have. I'm not saying it would be dumb to have it at their booth, which they probably will. But spending time during their direct would probably make a lot of folks watching pretty unhappy.

The better bet is to release a demo or beta in the next few weeks. Dive deeper into the game with a more focused direct. Get copies into the hands of the press early and blowout all info on the game. The point here is that E3 isn't the best venue for this.

I'm not sure how this is relevant exactly unless you believe what they've shown us is reflective of how far along in development they are. Them not showing us all the characters, or arms, or stages, or modes, doesn't mean they don't exist or aren't ready.

I've run into two gamers (both female as if that matters) during my mass transit travels and when casually mentioning the Switch, they immediately professed their love for ARMS and how awesome it looks. I think this may be one of those titles that has broad appeal, or at least be more appealing to the common individual than say the folks here at NeoGAF.

I'm predicting this game to do well commercially.
