It's hard to be a system seller for a terrible console like the Wii U. Even MK8, as amazing as it is, couldn't do it.

Switch is a great console. MK8 is a great game.

MK8 did quite well on Wii U, and was probably a driving force behind a lot of unit sales. But that just can't compete with a more attractive overall value proposition.

Jesus. The amount of pent-up demand for Nintendo games after the Wii U years is insane. It actually makes the marketing debacle around the Wii U seem way worse in retrospect, because it's clear that people really wanted these games, but just either really didn't want a Wii U or didn't know it was out there.

I'm surprised considering this is just an improved port of a game that isn't even that old to begin with and still sold at full price. I'm guessing a lot of current Switch owners never owned a Wii U or they did but really wanted portable MK8.

The attach rate so far is insane, and I suppose this solidifies the view that in order for a Nintendo system to succeed then Nintendo games need to be consistently released. If Nintendo can keep up the pace they will be doing gangbusters on both hardware and software
