NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Start of Route C.

Surprised with myself that I did not die at all during this clusterfuck.

When does the game get good? I loved the demo, but I've found the full game to be kind of a drag. Just lots of open, empty areas. Nothing on the story so far either. I'm about 4 hours in
going through the quests related to Pascal Village.
Is it just not going to click or does it ramp up soon?

I think it varies from person to person. I was at about seven hours when I started enjoying it. The real fun comes later when you start playing through routes B and C.

Hey all, got a quick question. I just got the last of the
four endings
in NieR 1 and I've read bits and pieces of the Grimoire Nier
including a summary of Ending E;
I couldn't find a complete translation of it.
Have I done all the prep I need to get the most out of Automata? I intend to go through the DOD series at some point but those games are getting expensive and I'm dying to play Automata. But I don't wanna miss out on any cool continuity. Thanks!

You're more than ready to play Automata.

Okay, so is the shitty boss fight many of you have been clamoring about the
flying centipede one in desert
during Route C?

Because this is a really shit boss fight.

That's what I've been doing but to be honest, I'm pretty sure it's the camerawork that's turning me into French toast, combined with the fact that boss fight itself is
a goddamn light show of madness
.

I'm gonna try arming myself to the teeth with healing chips and maybe do this the "patient" way.

Just finished the game. Got ending D. Got to go try and get C tomorrow, because I'm going to a show tonight. All I have to say is what the FUCK.

I chose to leave. I'm going to choose to stay as A2. Then I'm going to choose to stay again with 9S when I'm going for ending E.

That's the one. Honestly, I feel like it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't drop the Berserk Mode tutorial on you right there, because the last thing that fight needs is another way of watching your health go downwards. Berserk Mode couldn't be less useful in that fight :p

I didn't have much of a problem with it? Any flying centepede enemy in this game is annoying. With this boss, I just ran away for a long time and used my laser. It sucked and took a long time, but... *shrug*

The flying part isn't the problem.
It's when it's on the ground and you're getting spammed by off-screen lasers.

But yeah just stock up on healing items and grind through it.

Just beat the boss an hour ago.

Basically just spammed evade and health items,
and ironically, never use Berserk mode.

Can my laptop run the game?

i5-6200U 2.8GhZ
GTX950M 4Gb Vram
8GB ram

I thought it is slightly above the min requirement so i bought the game... only to be greeted with a white screen on start up. I can still hear the menu sound, just the graphic not loading?

Is it a bug or am I under-spec? If its the latter I will refund it then.

Well, uh, I switched back to hard mode for the rest of the start of route C. So I ended up replaying that last part about five times.

The good news is that reloading so many times got me a diamond weapon attack up +5 and a diamond combust +6. This pretty much maximizes my damage output for this next part.

That sounds more like a bug.

Try verifying the cache?

Glad there is finally a way to stop gaining EXP for low level playthroughs.

It's a shame it's locked behind the DLC though.

Been trying to decide whether or not I want to get the DLC. On the one hand, I want more gameplay and I usually love coliseum type things in these kind of games. Getting some customization stuff is just icing, even though by the point I'd get them the game is all but finished, and that kinda kills it for me. I'd love a proper NG+ for this, but I don't really see that happening.

Do have a question about the DLC, does the hair dye work with A2's long hair wig? Because if so, that with her DLC outfit might be worth it.

Man, I was actually kind of disappointed that such a cool-looking boss fight wasn't challenging at all. I guess I was overleveled.

I hope it'll be hard for me on my next playthrough as well.

Exact same boat so I decided to get the Nioh DLC instead. Just can't pull the trigger right now. I also have the HK asia version which makes the DLC a bit more expensive than the local PSN.

Got killed at the end of the
hacking tower
in Route C = FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCK

This is enough to keep me off this game more several hours, shit.

YEP. THAT HAPPENED TO ME TOO. FUCKING SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED. Luckily I had improved at the hacking bits due to that, but FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK that.

Finished Route C. Will do D/E later tonight.

I can say with confidence that if Red Dead Redemption 2 decides to pull punches or unsurprisingly gets delayed, this is my GOTY so far.

That last dungeon was one for the fucking ages.

That dual perspective boss fight that just seamlessly transitioned into you having to choose between A2 and 9S to fight to the death was straight up fire

I've got one more quick question for you guys. I would like to do every side quest. Is there a
point of no return
like in NieR or anything I need to watch out for? Any serious missables? Thanks! Automata is awesome so far.

Nothing is permanently missable. However, there are parts in the story where active sidequests you have started, as well as others you have yet to do, will become unavailable due to where you are at the story. And that part is when
they ask you to go the Coastal Area/City to check on supplies.
But even then, as I said, nothing is permanently missable.

Depends which part of the game you are (A/B/C?)

EDIT:Nvm

About the DLC: I managed to complete 2 of the special trials on the Hard difficulty. It was pretty nice and I enjoyed these challenges.
However, the third trial with lv>130 enemies seems kinda.... impossible? Even on Easy, I couldn't pass the
Unknown form of Simone Beauvoir
. It's crazy hard to dodge every single bullet without getting hit.
I wonder, did anyone actually manage to beat it?

MMarston

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Just beat it too.

Haha the way Ending E worked sure was something.

Overall, definitely more than worth my time and money. Glad to see auteurism still making a mark on this medium.

And thanks for the hype, GAF. I will now join you in spoiler-Valhalla.

So I've just started this game and have now died twice in a row at the first big boss. (End of the demo boss.)

I've had to completely start over two times now! Is this real???

Yes it is. Change it to Normal/Easy if you haven't done so already so you can just breeze past it and get it over with. Once you get past the demo boss, you'll be able to save normally, and feel free to play on Hard if that's what you want.

Been itching to pull the trigger on this game, I was wondering how long does it take to complete the canon endings?

Quick Q, are the shortcomings like the invisible walls don't distract from the exp?

The nature of that part + this track playing the entire time =

Bipolar Nightmare x track from Nier Automata is so amazing

I'd say around 40 hours

And the invisible walls aren't that prevalent except like two areas, and no they really don't matter

35-50 hours, depends on how into the sidequests you are

You quickly get used to stuff like the walls.
