Alexander Brandon, the composer of Deus Ex and Unreal, is working with Retro Studios

Due to needing to be paid in dollars and not yen, Retro is one of the most expensive studios that Nintendo owns. I don't see them ever expanding to the point where multiple AAA titles at once is viable.

If it is Donkey Kong, it needs to be more than just Returns 3. I want to see them push the envelope.

Probably not honestly. DK has never been a good franchise,....

This reads like bait and it's fundamentally untrue.

Yes, I enjoyed DK64 a lot too, more than Returns and Tropical Freeze.
....
and I think the cool reception to TF was reflective of this

83 Metacritic

Didn't care much for it personally, but cool "reception" is a joke. One major outlet didn't like it, that's about it.

Interesting. I always thought the atmosphere of old temples combined with future technology in metroid prime had some similarities with the atmosphere of the first unreal. So this would be a great fit.

Thank you DMONKUMA, this is what I was referring to, and I hadn't seen all of it. Serenitynow, I am hoping DK and Metroid fans can both be happy. Like if Retro can indeed now make two games at once as has been hinted at. (Or, if we get a DK/Metroid crossover.)

I don't even fall into either camp. Basically, here is where I stand with Retro:
New I.P. = great
Nintendo I.P. they've never worked on = great
Metroid = great
Donkey Kong = great if not a 2D side scroller. I'd be totally down for a 3D platformer or Donkey Kong: Guerilla Warfare, a third-person shooter that takes place during the Great Ape War. But if it's a third DKCR, I'll basically say, "Well, I'm sure this will be a fine game. See you in 3 years Retro when we can all speculate and get excited again about what's next, like we've done for the past ~6 years."

This EvB person got stuff right and got stuff wrong. Woohooo lol. I feel like I'll always be back to square one when it comes to guessing what Retros game is.

But I firmly believe it's not Metroid (atleast 3D Metroid).

Didn't a bunch of insiders say Retro isn't working on Metroid, and that Nintendo gave the next game to a 3rd party

I could definitely go for a single-player focused sci-fi FPS (new IP) with an Unreal Tournament style soundtrack from Retro Studios. In fact, that's a fucking pipe dream situation game. Please let it be the case!

Been playing Unreal Gold lately and I'm thrilled to hear this news. I sure hope it resembles actual music worth remembering and not "ambient" score.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Well, if they are working on a new Metroid game and he is indeed the composer, I can't help but be a little disappointed that Kenji Yamamoto won't be returning. That guy was fucking amazing.

Nintendo would have to be INCREDIBLY tone deaf to do another 2D Donkey Kong. It would almost be trolling. Lol

I believe NateDrake and someone else on Twitter said Metroid was being made by a third party dev. Obe1 (lol) also said he heard it was being made by someone who surprised him.

Even if you want to go by Nintendos words Tanabe implied Retro isn't working on a new Metroid game.

I guess this is coming to Switch consoles in 2018 then

American studio who has worked on two of Nintendo's most NA-centric IPs after both went through long hiatuses, being given an IP literally made specifically for NA that's been on a multi-decade hiatus.

Checks out.

Stop, this makes me think a Startropics reboot is realistic, you're mean.

BBQ is also NA-centric, maybe it's a sci-fi cooking game.

Alexander Brandon's discography includes shmups, atmospheric first person games, mascot platformers, a pinball game, a 60s inspired car combat game and Bejeweled 3. It rules out nothing.

You're most likely wrong. Retro has gotten David Wise in the past and Grant Kirkhope tried to get a job there too.

If they were going for Donkey Kong, they'd probably go for one of these two men or whomever composed DKC Returns if possible.

It pretty much rules out Donkey Kong as is not difficult to see. Considering the pedigree of Wise, it could rule out a similarly colourful platformer too, although that is just my conjecture.

Again, Brandon's game discography runs the gamut of genres (and after Retro hired an artist from Naughty Dog to work on Donkey Kong I'd figured we'd be done with this whole "based on this ONE previous project from the new hire, we can totally guess their new games tone!" game), he's local (which makes him more favorable to someone working long distance), and he's done work as an audio engineer and converting music to lowerend systems (we dont even know if he's working there as a composer, just that he's working there). Theres nothing you can really piece together from what the project is going to be based on the statement "Alexander Brandon is working at Retro", the dudes career is not one note enough for that.

"He did Deus Ex and Unreal so this next game is going to be dark!" has as much weight as "He's done a lot of music conversion, so he's compressing David Wise's Tropical Freeze soundtrack for the 3DS!" or "Hes creating sound effects/additional tracks for a new Donkey Kong while David Wise composes the majority of the game"

Also my dude, your post is three lines long not an essay there is no reason to bold anything to catch my attention, im going to see it.

Our good old friend SMD said in a live stream that Retro is working on new ip and a metroid game. However, he said that the new metroid game that will be shown at e3 is being developed by Climax Studios.
