Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

waiting for the Scorpio price reveal like

I'd be in the dick
I can't see Keighley putting out the info if it was false but I also don't see him doing it without permission. Maybe MS just wanted to get the bad news out of the way first so people just focus on the conference content themselves instead of the price?

Didn't Phil always hail it as a 'premium' product? That never implied $399 to me.

he did i always expected it to be that much as well, it's for a certain targeted userbase, so it's not "DEAD" it's probably for the super hardcore user with a 4k tv and is all decked out for this type of gaming. (although it would be a good tactic to see how people react before announcing that price)

Lets go with the theory. Geoff isn't "working" with MS.

Some are saying he's been fed some bs. I doubt Geoff would report this if he didn't source it more than once.
But what if he is? That's kind of the most fucked up thing media personality can do... I almost hope it's 499 just so I don't loose my faith is humanity...

Maybe it actually is $499 and Keighly thought it was crazy so leaked it so MS would see the backlash and revise before announcing? I've got my tinfoil hat on at least.

Seems like prepping people beforehand. If they announce that it's gonna be $499 during their conference, there will be a serious backlash. Announcing it early gives people a heads up to curb some of that disappointment before the show actually starts.

It seems very un-Geoff to leak hype killing information like this, especially so close to an announcement.

He seems very cosy with people in the industry, so I struggle to see what would motivate him to leak information. Did Microsoft snub his show or something?

Yeah, thinking about it, I'm going to assume that this is a projected price point he was given ages ago that he assumes will have changed.

My thoughts too.

Maybe they wanted the price to be known before the conference to deter people from freaking out during it.

Geoff would be the best person to get this out to the most people.

$500 would be pretty low. Microsoft spent so much time explaining everything and laying out spec details and people are still expecting $400? So weird.

I guess they will try to justify that with “ value“ but people want cheap prices, not value at a high price.

Also is it REALLY a mic drop moment if it's announced at $400?

I mean it's either going to be that, $450 or $500. a mic drop would be $350

DopeyFish

Not bitter, just unsweetened
THEY ARE MAKING EVERYONE BELIEVE IT'S 499 SO THEY CAN MIC DROP THE 399 THEY ARE PLAYING 4D CHESS CAN'T WAIT

499 is pretty bad if true

It really isn't, though.

Performance wise.... just on a linear scale... Scorpio is $573 at the same perf per dollar as pro

He actually specifically said that if Scorpio is above 400 dollars that Sony doesn't have to do a price cut at all.

@michaelpachter
Geoff is well connected and most likely right. $499 puts Scorpio at a disadvantage, expect PS4 Pro to get a price cut tomorrow

You don't have to defend this. LOL

This price might be acceptable to GAF but the thing will not sell...

I'm not trying to defend this. I'm probably not going to get one since I have never been in the MS ecosystem and haven't felt the need to jump in any time soon. Just doing the research on stuff like what gaming laptops and building a PC costs are is making me think $499 isn't that much. Microsoft is a Tier 1 as a tech company in terms of being able to source and get preferential pricing especially compared to what a consumer can get on the retail level but even they have to follow what they can do to build a box that will satisfy consumers on a budget they set out for.

but but but the console wars, a profit driven company was supposed to eat shit on each console to win this imaginary war!!!!111one

Eh. I don't have a dog in that fight. The last three games I bought were either on the Switch or PC, and I'm currently playing Fire Emblem Heroes the most out of anything. Video Games have changed.

Hilarious if true. No chance I'm dropping that much on a mid gen refresh.

It isn't a midgen refresh? Or if it is, every new MS console will be a midgen refresh. The jump to Scorpio 2 won't be bigger than the jump from XB1 to Scorpio.

How many times must MS reiterate this for people to understand?

I hate to be that guy, but why are people tripping about $100? We all figured its in the $399-$499 range and $100 really isnt that much nowadays.

Ps Pro is $400, so $499 seems reasonable if it will have the best console 3rd party experience and a few high caliber exclusives.

I bought 2 Pros just for Nioh.

You are an outlier. Most people will not drop 500 on a console; this has been proven time and time again.

Or maybe it's actually $599 and he's showing them how bad just $499 is! Hoping they're forced to even lower it to that! Double tin foil hat on.

What I want to know is, what's this "I can now say with confidence.." line? Wouldn't being wrong fuck up his reputation? I feel like this is such an absurd thing to say....

He doesn't leak stuff, he wouldn't care about reputation within the actual game industry.
"Oh looks like I was wrong! Welp, gonna go back to hanging out with Kojima and doing my other game related projects that won't be affected by being wrong about a console price"

If it is that price it needs to come with an Elite controller and maybe a game too. Then it's back to being very reasonable. Still loses any real hype factor though IMO.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
All I know is if it is 499, I won't be trading in my One S for it.

Unless I can get 200 for the One S.

And ppl need to realize this isn't next gen for them. Those hoping for it to eat into PS4 market share....

That's a big mistake from my perspective. The only rationale I can see for a $500 console is to skim off the price-insensitive early adopters, and then drop to a more market friendly price shortly thereafter. (Like, within a year or so. Which of course will piss off the early adopters.)

At $399, I would excitedly pre-order today, if possible. At $499, I will wait and see, worried that the Scorpio might never be worth buying due to a lack of installed base.

Of course, the Playstation ecosystem and exclusives aren't appealing to me at all, so I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. But at least Sony's pricing has been closer to what the market is looking for.

Hoping against hope that this is bad info.

The pricing is understandable for the new and potent hardware it has.

EDIT:
I was thinking a max of $449, a lower price would be much more appealing for everyone.

I wonder if it's going to have a display like what was on the Dev kits, to display the Xbox logo or things like messages and stuff?

Wonder who this will be targeting..because console gamers certainly won't pay that price; and PC gamers wanting the top of the line will build their own beasty PC tower.
