To all the people saying MS is doomed and the Scorpio is dead in the water at $499, remember that the Scorpio is not intended to replace the Xbox One as MS's main console.

It's meant to be a premium product, something MS has said openly.

If MS drops it at $399 I will be quite surprised, as it would likely mean MS taking a loss on each unit. You don't take losses on 'premium' products, as they are more price insensitive. You take losses on mainstay products that you want to build a market share for against competition.

I kind of see the Scorpio in the Steam Machine category rather than console category. It's basically a cheap PC box that will perform as a mid-quality PC. I don't really see it as competition for the PS4 Pro. For me, the main competition is between PS4 and Xbox One, with the Pro and Scorpio being kind of like extensions of that. I don't see a lot of people switching from a potential PS4 Pro purchase to a potential Scorpio purchase based purely on the characteristics of those two machines.

Seriously, people complaining about the shirt? It's a tshirt with Microsoft boasting. It's not a huge deal, it's hardly corny. I don't get the hate.

And the shirt makes them a cult? Damn, I'll make sure to think that next time I'm at a concert and everyone is wearing a tshirt of the band...

RAM prices haven't actually gone done in recent times. Plus they need that vapor cooling solution that I have to imagine is more than cheap heatsink + fan.

APU itself shouldn't be radically more expensive.

Maybe they haven't gone down but density has increased unless you're suggesting a 1GB GDDR5 RAM Module costs twice as much as a 512MB GDDR5 did in 2013, Scorpio is using 25% less chips (12 vs 16) than the PS4 did in 2013. Vapor chambers aren't some new cutting edge technology, it might be more expensive then a traditional heat sink like the junk Intel includes with their CPUs and stopped including with their enthusiast versions but I can't see a variation of something something you can buy for $25 or less retail having much in the way of a significant on cost, it's something that sounds way more impressive than it is like the rest of the Scorpio.

This whole "premium" market console thing has been nothing but a PR/marketing angle to set up MS dropping a bomb at their E3 presentation.

It's DOA at $499.

I hope that's the price though so I can get it on fire sale bundled with games a year after launch.

They can't be that dense.

Guys, he could have mentioned a thousand times (and he probably did) that the console would be a premium product. No one cares. All people see at the end of the day, is the price tag. People feel that there's already a premium product in the PS4 available at a much lower price, so it was going to be a tough sell no matter what.

Sorry but Scorpio's specs in late 2017 is not worth $500.

Jaguar.

Sony will probably have a Zen-based PS5 in 2019 for $400.

It isn't going to save the Xbox brand from becoming the new Sega over the next 5-7 years, no matter if it's going to be 399,- or 499,-.

It's E3, every year either Sony or MS are doomed. :p

That's one cringy shirt...

it's fucking hilarious to me
it's a statement about the console itself which means quite little when you consider it's only going to be that way for a brief period of time. I mean, right now PS4 Pro is the most powerful but did they try to use a tagline like this? It's so silly. That they made shirts for it is all the more better. The idea that someone doubled down on this tagline is amazing.
