It's still not an unreasonable expectation - especially given the game in question. If so much is changed, why then even call it BG&E? Just to cash in on the old fans hopes and dreams? Why create such a story driven, linear progression trailer, if the game is not going to be anything like that?

You can have a game like this with a huge story focus. Just look at Final Fantasy XIV as an example, or even some of the cutscenes in GTA Online for one of the earlier attempts at that.

People act like swearing implies that something is dumb. While I see that point of view, it can also imply that it's aiming at an older audience, which means it should respect my intelligence more than, say, the usual Mario game plot aimed at toddlers. It's a good message to send when the game stars anthropomorphic animals, and could otherwise be a baby game.

Sigh. Nothing says mature like anthropomorphic animals cursing.

so the person who was saying it was 1 year Switch exclusive has backed down from that claim with a 'I might be wrong tho' and had a complete break down on twitter. Not sure what to take from that.

People keep saying it's looks nothing like BGE, but there was a moment in the trailer where I started thinking, "what ELSE could this be, given that it's Ubisoft? They can't have another IP with talking animals, that technology, and futuristic setting crossed with familiar locales"

Trailer looked phenomenal and all but please someone enlighten me on why are we supposed to get so excited over a CGI trailer?

This is not what I want from a BG&E sequel. I don't feel like the setting can stand on its own without Jade and Pey'j. This would be like making a Jak game that takes place in Haven City without Jak & Daxter.ng a Jak game that takes place in Haven City without Jak & Daxter.

After hoping to see this game again for years and years after those two very cool teaser trailers showing off Pey and Jade, them revealing BG&E2 in this online focused, prequel form (with CG...again) to me feels like a big slap in the face.

I'm not saying the end result can't be a good game that I might end up enjoying, but it won't scratch the long running itch left by the first game. For someone like me who wanted and - based on the older trailers - had every right to expect a second story-driven, Jade featuring, single-player BG&E, this is just incredibly disappointing. They should have made this into a spin-off game while also completing the game the original trailers teased imo.

Ubisoft and their damned focus on "shared online experiences." This is what killed Prince of Persia too.

Amen. Summarized my feelings exactly. If this game turns out as shown, it's a definite no buy from me.

It's so hard to tell without ANY gameplay (thanks UB) but it all feels weird.

I know some people love this game but it's 14 years later and 6 years after they did a remaster to get interest. I'm sure most of the fans would rather they move it forward in story, not back but if enough people didn't play it, would they care about the story?

They tried very hard to set up a massive world that just doesn't feel like it matches the tone or scope or feel of the first one.

I didn't even love the first, but I can recognize the massive disconnect.

With THAT trailer (pigman and green eyes aside) you could have set up a NEW crazy awesome game universe. So strange

Yep, looked immediately like BG&E to me. New characters, same cool universe.

Be prepared for disappointment.

Ubisoft's Switch support at the conference started with a Mario title and ended with a Toys to Life title with nothing in between.

Nothing else is coming to Switch. No South Park. No Far Cry. No Assassins Creed.

I like the assumption that I only own a switch so I get to be disappointed. I just find the lack of system details odd when everything else was coved. Very similar to Bethesda not giving a date for skyrim switch but at the same time subtly confirming this year. Feels like usual nintendo ndas

If it's so unimportant why not just go for a reboot then

Shoot, as soon as I saw the pig-guy I was like "Oh shit, this is Beyond Good and Evil!"

I loved Beyond Good and Evil, so I'm gonna be playing this game in whatever form it takes

I'm not talking about open world framework, I mean a tight focused SP campaign. Open world or not.

If it's not heavily implied online framework such as working up from a lowly pirate to a legendary and seamless online world. It does bring up doubts how focused SP would be.

Online can work if it still allows player self determination. Drop in/drop out co-op for example where friends just replace the AI bots but everyone enjoys the narrative together.

The narrative director was a writer for Valiant Hearts and apparently involved enough in this project to be on-stage next to Ancel. You don't put someone unrecognizable to the public on stage like that if their contribution isn't significant.

I love FF14 but I never thought its story or the way it's told is particularly impressive. It's fun, and it's a stand-out among MMOs, to be sure, but it's not something that draws me to the game on its own merit.

Yeah, when they even just had the grungy logo it felt immediately apparent, and then the first shot of the pig sealed the deal.

Everything about it seems incredibly BG&E to me. It just isn't Jade, Peyj and Hillys in particular.

Alright, I'll admit that's a very slight exaggeration.

If they were further along in the project maybe less so, but right now they're so early in pre production that they're still gathering feedback.

Maybe there's a chance yet to get that proper, single player focused game supporters wanted?
What supporters? I'm a BGE fan, I was waiting for BGE2, and I think this trailer was brilliant and the art style significantly better and more original than whatever they had in BGE1.
The online thing I'm skeptical of, but we've seen literally nothing about it, a bit early to judge.

Unless we're doing True Scotsman arguments.

Star Wars Episode 7 is a movie about manbaby new fascists destroying their own lives out of a desire to emulate fascists that they barely even understand.

It is very realistic.

I can understand some of the disappointment, but, coming from the perspective of someone who never played the original, that was a legitimately great trailer, and I'm super excited for the game.

The swearing is quite much but the characters and style they have right here is absolutely great so far. Hope to see some gameplay soon, really want to know how it will actually look like.
Just to know that they finally did that makes me happy already.

yep, I want to be excited but I wanna play a new BG&E game, not watch a movie about it. Until we get gameplay I can't get excited.

Loved the first game, this trailer was great so I'll be cautiously optimistic about those actual game details. Hopefully we'll see some proper gameplay sooner rather than later.

It definitely unfolded with equal parts clarity and horror.

You're responding to me with the attitude I was already responding to.

Yeah I know swearing is dumb and people roll their eyes because its adolescent appeal. We all know.

But what I know from the swearing in this game is that it isn't going to be a baby game. It isn't another Star Fox style plot where I know nothing interesting can ever happen because of the barriers of being family friendly.

Because it doesn't match the tone of the first and only game in the series at all.

This is Bomberman Zero level of IP fuckery.
I think it's an improvement.
It's been 15 years, it's fair to rework the tone with something they feel more comfortable with.
Besides, this could've easily been their aim from the start, but on game cube, they may just have not being able to.

Even the older teaser years ago, was already grittier than the first game.

Point is, within the world they presented now, the swearing felt perfectly in tone.

I'll admit that I barely got anywhere in BG&E because I really wasn't a fan of how it controlled (loved its PS2-era personality, though), and so I can't really be an authority on the game.

But from what I played, the way they designed and articulated the setting and characters really did feel like a 2017 translation of the original universe, minus the swearing, of course.

Wasn't put off at all. Hopefully they can design a game that actually feels good for me to play.

Hahaha, wow - surprised at the first page of GAF shooting their load prematurely at a CGI trailer with zero gameplay. And online environment along with 'needs the community to help make the game' - what??
Sounds like they have no concept on the gameplay and only have the design of the characters and cities laid out.....after years of working on a sequel.

Not happy at all with this.

I would have liked to have some returning characters but I see no point in getting bent about what this game may or may not turn out to be at this point. It probably helps that I never expected a sequel to begin with.

Beautiful trailer, but that's a whole lot of swearing. Like, nearly every line. :/

Glad the game is finally happening. Hope it turns out well.

That's just how it looks like to me so far. It could be different when new information pops up in the near future.
