Sony puts PS4 button prompts over Xbox One X footage of Anthem

EvB doubling down lol. Trying to hard mate.

OK OP, what is your goal here? What do you GAF to do on your behalf?

If you don't see it, like everyone here does, nothing I say will change anything, this was most likely EA for one, but even if it was Sony, do you think they would show the competitions controller prompts? This is nothing.

What is your point then, besides the obvious console warring?

I think it's a perfectly valid question to ask why the reactions to Microsoft and Sony doing essentially the same thing are so different.

This happens all the time. Console makers will get the same video but diffrent button prompts on it.

Someone a long the way just did a shit job this time.

Oh. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not really, in that thread a PS4 version of NFS was being played and streamed at an official Xbox One preview event, the blame was completely on MS in that instance. In this case, there's no indication Sony did anything here beyond not scrutinise some button prompts in some third party footage they were sent with the same fine-tooth comb the OP used. Not really an identical scenario here.

As this giuy posted, how are they the same?

Whomever's fault this is, it's deceptive.
These companies have no respect for their consumers these days.

what's the problem here?

Game looks way too good to be true eithey way, fake prompts or not. Got a gut feeling about it that it's going to get canned or made into a single player game looking way less fancy. Something about it's vision of the game being too ambitious for it's own good.

lol nah, at most it will get a "graphical downgrade". EA/bioware wouldn't just can a game they invested this many years into or radically change its direction after the reveal dropped so many jaws and the game is like a year from launch

The deception being? These games are going to be identical barring button prompts so what are they doing to deceive you exactly? Performance issues wouldn't be able to be accurately assessed either way at this point regardless so don't use that.

Because Consumer don't care about these things. Because it happens all the time. Because the games are going to look damn near the same anyway lol.

The deception is when you are giving your customer something other than what they think they are getting.

On Sony's channel consumers expect PSR or PS4 pro footage.

Showing PC or Xbone X footage -both of which are more powerful- instead of PS4 footage is deceiving.

Y'all are so transparent at this point, it's not funny.

Nothing in that gameplay trailer is undoable on PC

There was nothing in The Witcher 3 or Watch_Dogs trailers that were undoable on PC either, both still got big downgradeds. Can't really blame people for being skeptical.
I know I'm not expecting the final product to look that good, but if it does I'll be a hell of a lot more impressed with it.

Yeah a mod needs to lock this thread or at the very least change the thread title.

Just gonna stir up a stupid console war thread otherwise honestly.

No, they want footage of the game that's coming to their platform which is what they got.

Whats wrong with the statement/headline? It is exactly what happened. No blame in it, just the facts.

Let's assume the unlikely scenario that Sony did this, they would still need approval from EA before posting it. In the end it's either EA's doing or their call, so the blame should go to them.

Maybe that's how it actually, really looks in the PS4 version, because it was easier for Bioware to just draw PS4 prompts on top of the Xbox ones? We should withhold judgement until the game is playable on the console, perhaps for some possble beta.

That's quite the twist. You have a job waiting for you as PR for a publisher.

It is deceitful. Just because other publishers do this crap doesn't mean we, as consumers, should tolerate it.

They released (uploaded) the video to their channel (the fact). The statement did not say they did/modified the video at all. Best practice would have been If EA has made the modifications Sony should asked for PS4 footage (even if it would needed to be recorded on a developers PC with the PS4 version of the game).

This almost never happens though. Where was all the outrage when Sony and MS put up trailers that used PC footage?

We are far away from an outrage, tbh. Low cooking at best ... All I personally can say, it could have been handled better and it should have been handled better especially when we are talking about game play videos.

I just read that entire thread and it doesn't seem like this is what happened.

It seems like it was a journalist website that posted an interview with edited in footage that had the PS4 version running. But on screens running the game in the background during the actual interview at the preview event, you could see that the game was actually running on an XB1 because you could see the button prompts.

The website ended up deleting the video and for good reason.

The blame in that instance is all on the website and still you had people blaming MS.

It is interesting though how you and timberger both jump at the chance to pin the blame squarely on MS citing that thread as evidence without having actually read it and knowing what actually happened.

For the record, I personally think this is false advertising no matter who is doing it if they don't clarify what platform the footage is running on in the video somewhere. Even when they do it at E3.

I agree that it could and should have been handled better, which is why I think blaming EA is important since there is a very good chance they produced the footage. It's likely this was done by a marketing team and they obviously did a half ass job at it.

Doesn't really matter in the end, even if the edit was done properly, people would have still complained since it's X footage. With it being a multiplatform title, I don't see the big deal. If anything Sony risks the backlash if the game doesn't end up looking that good on the Pro.

Do you believe that every trailer shown on E3 is running on the hardware spec the button prompts indicate? If that's the case I have a bridge to sell to you.

What are you tolerating? What are you missing out on?

Consumers are tolerating bullshot bullshit that isn't representative of the actual product.

In this case the footage being used appears to be from a competitor's recently announced hardware.

Consumers are missing out on important information needed to decide which hardware platform to play on.
