Reddit troll apologizes for trump CNN gif/all those racist remarks

And the difference between that and some other fake news propaganda that racists come up with and unaware people agree with is what exactly?

The difference is the integrity of the news outlet publicly admitting to blackmailing the man. When shit comes straight from the horse's mouth, it's bound to generate more resentment.

How dense are you to not realize that Trump is the one who made all of this happen. And by "all of this" I don't mean "going after", because CNN aren't the fucking mob. They investigated and sourced exactly where the POTUS gets his garbage from.
Exactly. This is literally their job, guys, and they had every right to dox him. They chose not to. Welcome to the real world, which is not governed by Reddit's TOS.

A private citizen's meme is retweeted by the President of the United States. Whatever private rights he has are lost when the President of the United States retweets you. It's no different than if he wrote a lengthy editorial that had the same details as the GIF and the President retweeted him. In that moment, you forfeit your right to stay anonymous. Good on CNN for extending grace to keep him anonymous.

And he has his privacy you goons

They didn't reveal anything, probably because he called them and dropped spaghetti out of his pockets and promised to not throw hands

Even if you hate right wings with a passion, you should be disturbed that a news network forced someone to make a public apology on a forum, just so they can screenshot it to make a story, while using blackmail. Its a pinacle of rotten.

What the hell does internet anonymity have to do with free speech? This (apparently) middle aged man can grab a bullhorn and go rant about his musings in the middle of times square without the government jailing him for it, that's free speech.
No one seems to apply the concept correctly.

In fact the only people you ever seem to see crying about "free speech" nowadays are people attempting to use it to deflect from responsibility for what they say when a much better application would be the freedom of the press to investigate where a US president is sourcing his ideas.

The President of the United States retweeted a meme by a White Supremacist targeting a media outlet, not the first time he's rewteeted a White Supremacist either, and the outrage is now that the target of the meme might reveal the identity of the White Supremacist.

Get me out of this timeline.

That's literally not what happened though.

Did you ignore my last reply to you? It wasn't just memes this guy was posting. The dude attempted to incite harassment against CNN's Jewish employees.
I'm not a fan of witch hunts. He's allowed to say that crap on an anonymous internet message board, just as much as people on here saying crap about how they wish Donald Trump was dead. News organizations shouldn't be threatening to dox people for having views they disagree with. Or in this case, making a meme.

CNN is a private entity, they are not the government. If you're going to post racist bullshit on the internet you can be held accountable for that.

You need to read the actual chain of events. Not going by what you read on Twitter.

So internet racists are protected from 'witch hunts' but Jewish employees of media outlets are fair game?

I don't know how you can't see that in the article. They literally say they aren't posting his or her personal identity BECAUSE they apologized. That heavily implies they would publish their name if they didn't.

This fucking dude literally doxxed every Jewish person who works at CNN and all these people worrying about him were nowhere to be found, now they're coming out of the woodwork to say that the target of harassment is in the wrong and/or at LEAST just as bad as the guy who said he carries knives around with the intent to slit the throats of muslims.

you have no expectation of privacy on a public website dude.

Which is also why some of the people posting suspect stuff like "I wish Trump was dead" should be more careful with their words too. I've warned people in other threads to cool it with that kind of talk because the internet is not a playground.

It will be now that Trump's son is talking about it. Its only going to blow up, cause Trump won't be able to help himself and will tweet about this like a crazy person.

You are obsessed with Trump in what can only be described as unhealthy levels.

How is it a witch hunt when he willingly put himself out there?

This person did not stop at kill Hillary(the opposite is about the worst you'd find on gaf, and even that without the qualification of him dying of old age is rare), this person talked about how he wants to stab muslims and how 500,000 muslims dying would only be "a start".

And this isn't a news organization threatening someone they disagree with. The POTUS literally made this guy one of his sources of information.

How many people defending this guy stood up for poor Kathy Griffin?

Kathy Griffin got what she deserved. This guy has not.

As much as I hated the Kathy Griffin thing, at least she put her name behind it.

Show me posts here on GAF using the same racist, sexist, homophobic vitriol and going unpunished because it was directed at the 'right wings'. Go for it.

Some of these gaffers are probably panicking their genocidal/racists post on the donald might get revealed.

Good. Let the racists live in the fear they make minorities live in.

Freedom of Speech does mean freedom from the consequences of that speech or freedom of anonymity.

They didn't post his personal identity because he apologized and said he was done. This is what's called "being an ethical journalist" who decided that revealing his personal identity at this time was unnecessary if he just wanted to take the L and move on with his life - minimize harm.

But now he's an involuntary public figure - if he continues to post shit, he's inexorably linked to Donald Trump, and continues to be an involuntary public figure.

It's not about the APOLOGY, it's about continuing to act in the same manner that got you in the news in the first place.

Yes, especially to the bolded. We wouldn't wanna hold anyone accountable for anything ever. Except for the victims, because they should just take it otherwise they're just as bad.. /s

If someone on the internet, who had previously called for the slaughter of all white americans, were then re-tweeted by Obama....how do you think all the republicans out there (or Fox News) would react?

People post racist, bigoted content only because they are anonymous. When that anonymity is threatened they get a little shook.

Wishing Donald Trump and other prominent Republicans were dead isn't racist, sexist, or homophobic, so I wouldn't be able to do that by definition. Doesn't mean I think that's a bit messed up.

Your post seemed sympathetic to racists. CNN isn't out here just trying to expose racists. This guy got inserted into a news story. He would still be out here promoting genocide if the President didn't use his material.
And I'm sure he still is, I don't believe his apology at all. However, if this is what it looks like CNN is doing how long until people on the left start getting doxxed more frequently by alt right news sites (yes I'm sure they've done it before, but this only means it'll happen more) because it seems okay that CNN is doing it. I don't fault CNN for finding this person and trying to get a statement from them. The problem is the way they framed that action.

Let's flip the tables for a second, as I'm curious. Imagine some racist news outlet outting a NeoGAF member who said "I wish Trump was dead", and he gets quoted by some politician. Then the news media threaten to reveal his identity should he direct more comments like that towards The President of United States. And maybe they go through his posts and realize he's a closet bisexual and threatens to out his bisexuality publicly by revealing his identity. How would GAF react?

Again, not defending the racist piece of shit, but questioning the reaction to it all.

It's almost like you presented a false equivalence or something.

Anonymity and privacy aren't the same thing.

If you go into a public library wearing a mask and start shouting the n-word and someone pulls off your mask, your privacy hasn't been violated.

Like, seriously. I don't get what's hard to understand about that.

Nah, facebook disproves that.

If they were retweeted by the POTUS? I'd expect it. Except that would never actually happen.

I'd say that those two situations aren't comparable whatsoever you goon

People gotta take this 'flip the tables', 'devil's advocate', and 'both sides' shit to the bin
