Bought. After reading through this thread I sent a support ticket to add an extra sensor to my order as well. Wonder how long shipping will take...

What was the whole deal with Oculus and invasion of privacy by Facebook? I seem to remember some controversy when the Oculus launched about how Facebook has a constant 24/7 connection where all your info and activity is sent to them whenever your Rift is hooked up, and no way to de-activate that...is that true, and if so is it still the case with the Rift?

That and Palmer Luckey made the Rift a "never buy" and I was looking for a price drop on the Vive. But this is priced so damn low that I'm reconsidering lol.

Yeah Google Earth VR feels like pure magic to me. I giggled like a school girl when I visited some of the featured sites for the first time.

Is the third sensor really that necessary?

I would say no it isn't. In most games allow you to turn via analog stick or they are built with the idea that you are facing foward.

Also even in games where I got turned around occlusion never seemed to be a huge issue. I let my nephews play it this weekend and they were running all over the room playing it and didn't seem to have any major problems that caused them to stop.

It was pretty funny to watch because in Robo Recall it tells you to turn around and face the sensors, but they didn't seem to care and it didn't cause many noticeable problems.

I have my Rift set up with 2 sensors (left and right of the TV) facing a play-area that's about 2.5m x 3m. Never had any real tracking issues, even with games where you move around a lot like Superhot or The Climb.

edit: I'd say try it out with 2 sensors, if you experience tracking problems then order the 3rd sensor.

Glad I was able to sell mine a few weeks back! Totally dodged the price drop. Wouldn't be surprised if I get a message from the buyer asking for a return.
I'm curious, I have just one open usb port (and even then I think it's a 2.0 port).

I have two usb 3.0 ports of which one I have a powered usb hub for.

Does the rift work fine if you use a usb hub for it?
The Rift is incredibly picky about USB 3.0 ports. I could never set it up the right way and just looking at it weird would force me to go through the connection ritual. I was on x99 with fully updated drivers and such.

Awesome! Thanks!

Depends lol if you went Prime 2 day or not.

Is the third sensor really that necessary?

Well not really if you have setup a completely clear room for this then you will be fine with 2, but most people like to be certain that everything is tracking so they get 3.

I'd buy this if I had a GPU. Still too expensive to buy a graphics card.

Hopefully I can nab a GPU in the next six weeks and then I'll get this headset. $400 was my price ceiling.

I don't use mine that much but $400 is a pretty good deal and if have a halfway decent PC I'd jump on it, the best buy deal is especially fabulous since you get touch plus Eve which is a great game.

Ive made note. Any suggestions on wire routing to say a ceiling or something. Id rather not have to deal with the cord dangling at my feet so looking at ways to suspend it somehow.

Yeah, if you want to go all out get this or this. But more important than that is getting these for wall mounting your sensors. And then extensions for some of your cables. So yea, if you want the ultimate setup, you need a little more, but it's worth it.

How is the resolution of this thing?

What applications out side of games? I dont think i can play VR games without puking.
Like some VR tour? VR theater? VR hentai?

I had the S7 Gear VR, used it for a few days and has collected dust since. The pseudo cinema was cool, though a bit lowres and i was not going to pay for the content.

Ironically, imo, something like GearVR is the future, no messy wires.

Yes those exist.

Sorry, I should've been clearer about my location. I'm in Sweden and ordered from www.oculus.com

Shouldn't take that long honestly.

...This is probably the sad reality to be honest. This doesnt help me with post purchase regrets lol

He has a point, but I played mine pretty hard for at least 2 months ;) . If you find a game that's right for you (like Onward for me, 200 hours played), then it should be worth it. Plus the game influx has just begun. I still pick mine up at least once a week, it's just cool. Just waiting on games like Fallout 4 VR and such.

You need to plug them into the PC, which is what makes it harder to deal with roomscale. Many of the games are front facing, but you can get like 270 degree movement and I never experienced too much occlusion even in situations where I got turned around.

However due to Echo Arena I just recently added another camera to my setup and just ran an extension cable along the wall and used tripods I had for my Vive. That said I still tend to use snap turning because I hate turning around with a cable. I can't wait for wireless headsets.

Interesting. Thanks for the info on this. Definitely something to consider.

While this is kind of tempting, there's just too many niggling things that add up for me.

1) VR isn't comfortable for those with glasses, and some in the thread have stated the Rift is one of the worst offenders.
Valid concern. Though I'm near sighted and don't need my glasses when using it. Mileage may vary there.

2) Lack of deep games. I've seen some games that look neat, but very few exclusives that I think would hook me for a long time. Stuff like Elite: Dangerous is neat, but I can already play that in non-VR.
Plenty of deep longer games out there (Chronos, Mage's Tale, Solus Project, Elite: Dangerous, House of the Dying Sun, Arizona Sunshine, & Fallout 4 is coming). Plenty of smaller great games out there with lots of replayability too (Blasters of the Universe, Pavlov, Onward, Cosmic Trip, Gorn, Sairento, Raw Data, Sound Boxing, Rec Room).

3) Clunky locomotion. It's clear that VR is still in its infancy, with things like teleporting to move being a prime example. Considering your viewpoint is literally strapped to your head, this seems like a really poor solution. Until things like Lone Echo are the norm and not the exception, VR will feel gimmicky.
It's really not that clunky and most games nowadays have multiple options. It's really just a matter of what you can handle (motion sickness wise) and even that is kind of being figured out with RE7, Onward, etc having implementations that seem to mitigate it and comfort options being available. Hell, Survios is making a game entirely about fast sprinting which is supposed to be a BIG no no and yet it's not a puke factory.

4) Software pricing. Because there's only so many headsets out there, developers are needing to get more per consumer than normal. This leads to games that, being honest, would struggle to ask $15, now being sold at $40 -- and almost never going on sale. As a consumer, it's rough to already have paid hundreds of dollars on top of owning a gaming machine, only to be asked to pay a giant premium once again.
Though there's definitely some VR tax going on, it's not nearly as dire as that and there are plenty of games that are appropriately priced. Plus there are just as many sales as any other games on Steam.

5) Gen 2 is inevitable. While current VR is impressive, it still has its issues. The screen-door effect can hamper immersion in a technology almost exclusively devoted to that idea. And having a bulky headset with a bunch of wires on it isn't ideal either. Both will be addressed in later revisions, leaving early adopters with a sub-ideal experience in order to get ground-floor access.
The next gen is always going to be around the corner this early in the medium. It's definitely a risk. Still, I wouldn't expect the next significant leap in headsets to hit until around 2019. And even when they do, it's probably not going to be $400 when it launches.

You will use the shit out of it for like 4 weeks and then it will just collect dust. Just like my vive.

I did the same with my PSVR, but that's because there have only been like 5 games in that last 7 months that interested me. I'm considering a Rift since it seems like there's more that would hold my interest.

The biggest problem for me right now is lack of friends in my friends Oculus list for online games. Their are plenty of online Rift games. But not as many people to play them with. The three games I am most excited to play this summer are Echo Arena, Splatoon 2, and Destiny 2 Beta. I have a set of friends to play the former two online with.

Some of the responses lol

headset is released:
"___ is too expensive I'll wait for a price drop"

price drops in half:
"___ is just around the corner and will be better I'll wait for that."

rinse...repeat

So does Oculus have it's own store like Steam where the exclusive games are bought? Or do they just not work with other hardware like the Vive?

As someone who bought a PSVR and has been disappointed in the support, I'm debating this. Tough call...

People say waiting for next gen headsets will be waiting for a long time. I would imagine they would have been announced or would be going to a dev kit system like the first set has already. I don't see a new gen headset till 2019/2020

Given the Zenimax vs Oculus lawsuit, I doubt Fallout 4 VR will come to the Rift.

They do have their own store, but you can also purchase certain games from Steam as well, which is obviously the thing to do when you can.

But there are certain games that can only be purchased through them, yes.
