Buy/Sell/Trade Thread 2017 | Read the Rules in the OP | We Live For This

Looks like this isn't the first time Corpekata has done this, either.

https://www.cheapassgamer.com/user/312777-corpekata/?tab=feedback

There's similar activity on CheapAssGamer. There's some positive activity there, but the recent one of a month and no answer is disappointing. Sorry to hear that some deals haven't gone well.

Yeah, I found that this morning. Apparently that was before he wised up and started requesting Google Wallet, because that guy appears to have been able to file a claim through PayPal.

I spoke with chualie in a PM and apparently we "bought" the exact same card from him, so it's definitely a scam. That would explain why he kept sending me PM's: he wanted the time to scam someone else.

So... who wants to sell me a GTX1080 for cheap?

Can't you do a charge back via your bank? Or maybe take the matter up with Google (Wallet)?

I think that if more than one person contacts them, they may take an interest in the matter? What do I know... I'd try to do something.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to try to do something, but I think that our options are pretty limited. Google Wallet doesn't allow you to make a payment with an actual Credit Card, so I used my Debit Card instead. While there are a lot of protections in place for Credit Cards, there isn't much for Debit Cards. I am going to contact my bank and see if they can do anything, but I'm not willing to lie and say that the original transaction was fraudulent (ie: not made by me), so I'm thinking I'm pretty screwed.

It just really sucks, especially because I'm without a video card now and can't really afford to buy another one at this point. I don't say that for any pity, I just say it because....well it sucks and I need to vent a bit. It's entirely my fault and I knew better, but I guess I had just become a little too comfortable with the thread as of late. A very expensive lesson learned and I hope it's something that everyone keeps in mind going forward. I know there are perfectly valid reasons why people request payment other than PayPal and the vast majority of our members would never think of scamming someone, but it does happen.

This sucks and is completely unacceptable. I completely understand why the mods let us moderate ourselves over here, but what this guy is doing is an actual crime, and he needs to be banned and the mods need to accommodate that. We need some mechanism in place to deter this behavior, because it seems to be on the rise lately. Maybe we can approach the mods and ask that they give someone in the thread mod powers for that reason.

Clogger - so sorry this happened. Take it with the bank and PLEASE go to your local police department as well and at least file a report. No reason to let a criminal get away with a crime because it is on the internet.

Lastly I know it will ring hollow, but if you would like my spare 650TI to just get your computer through finding a real card, shoot me a note and it's in the mail to you.

It doesn't ring hollow at all, as it's an extremely nice gesture. I'll be fine though. Me going without a video card for a while isn't going to be the end of the world.

As for the mods, I have already contacted one mod about the situation. I don't want anyone else getting scammed, which is why I messaged them, but I also don't want to pressure them into action so much that they end up just shutting this thread down. I've said it before, but this thread is the only reason I joined NeoGAF in the first place. We have our ups and downs, but we do pretty well for ourselves. Hundreds and hundreds of transactions, with only a few bad apples.

I've made a lot of purchases in BST and everyone that I've bought things from were very kind. I'm sad to hear that something like this would happen, and I'm really sorry for those that got scammed by these giant pieces of human waste

Fitbit Blaze (Blue, Small strap) Cleaned every day and before boxing with alcohol wipes (kinda a germaphobe) comes fully boxed and also include a third party black frame.

Oh and the physical tracker itself has had tempered glass on it since I bought it and still has it on without a scratch.

Looking £70 + £5 postage.

Sorry to hear about that guys.

I've been scammed before, and if sucks. If I were both of you I would highly suggest filing a small claims case against him as well as calling his local police department.

I went through this process and was able to get my money back from my scammer.

Quick google results show his full name and address. Maybe even write him a letter (I did that first and was able to make contact from my scammer)

Hopefully it works out! I would definitely try and get your money back if the Banks don't help you!

Everyones info is everywhere these days, I had this happen to me 10+ years ago and it was much harder then.

Just a word to the wise, beyond this scammer, be very careful buying video cards from any questionable sorces in the future. A lot of miners are selling them as like new, or even as new after applying shrink wrap again. That is after having them running at full tilt for six months. Not saying it can't work out, but kind of like buying a rental car.

This is why people should only buy video cards from me ;)

Have you had any for sale recently? A buddy of mine is looking to upgrade.

For what it's worth, my bank essentially treats debit cards the same as credit cards in terms of fraud protection and all of that stuff. They have $0 liability and the ability to go online a dispute any charge that you need to. I've had to do it a few times in the past three years (nothing B/S/T related though) and I've always gotten my money back.

I applaud you for wanting to do the right thing, but I think it's a little misguided here. You were scammed and ripped-off and "fraudulent" encompasses a whole ton of things. The bank is likely insured against this or they will revoke the money from Google or just write it off. I wouldn't worry about it.

Wow I think I had a couple good transactions with that guy. I was so close to selling my 1070 and buying one of those 1080s. So glad I didn't now. Those prices were just too good to be true for the current card market.

It was short sighted on my part to trust those prices. He was an established member with 20k+ posts so thought it would be okay. Should have solely referred to the Feedback thread.

My stupidity wants to blame Google Wallet for not providing buyer/seller protection like PayPal hahaha.

I've had to do it a few times in the past three years (nothing B/S/T related though) and I've always gotten my money back.

I went ahead and contacted my bank about the situation. I explained exactly what happened and they transferred me to their fraud department. They've requested that I put everything in writing and provide screenshots of everything. That gives me a little bit of hope, but who knows. They may have just been trying to appease me and will reject my claim in writing later.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but it's just not something I'm willing to do. If the above process works, then great, but otherwise I'll just have to eat it. I'm not going to lie and force my bank/their insurance to pay the cost of my mistake. I know, they're massive and make a ton of money from myself and others, but it's just not something I feel right doing.

I'm kicking myself over that in hindsight. I've gotten good deals here in the past though, so it didn't really seem insane at the time.

To be fair, he actually has pretty good Seller feedback here. +6 Buyer/+40 Seller. He's just 10 away from becoming a Gold Seller. That, combined with his high post count, is what actually pushed me over the edge.

To those wondering, I heard back from a mod and they are going to give him a week to log back on and explain himself. There's still a chance (though slight) that this is all just a big misunderstanding. After that, they will take appropriate action. I think there's been enough stink in this thread now that nobody should attempt to buy from him again until the situation is worked out.

Did anyone else purchase anything from Corpekata in the past couple of weeks?

I bought a 1080 graphics card from him on July 28th, but still haven't received anything. He kept saying he would get it sent out last week, then apologized and said work had been busy and he would definitely get it sent out on Friday, or would just refund me. Haven't heard from him since and he hasn't logged on since Friday. Really sucks, because I ended up selling my graphics card on eBay, expecting that the 1080 would be here by now.

It's honestly not looking good at this point, but I'm hoping maybe someone else has had better results? Who knows.

Just came here to post that I bought a computer monitor from him and that it was supposed to arrive 2 weeks ago at this point and that hes not answering me anymore and says he lost the tracking #

$400 over google wallet

Currently talking to google wallet support. Filing a claim/dispute with them. If this ddoesn't work the I will file claim with my bank

just did the same with both. what I dont get is he said he shipped with signature confirmation, which would make it easily verifiable that I never received it.The last thing he said was that he would figure something out, acknowledging its non-receipt. he supposedly lost the tracking number and at this point is not even answering me but its kinda confusing, maybe he was just answering to look more innocent

DAMNIT I JUST WANT G SYNC

I even cancelled another transaction before it had been agreed on to go with his cheaper one ><

Yeah, the only reason I can come up with for him to keep replying was just to keep everyone off his case for long enough to scam more people.

Sad to hear that even more were effected. Hopefully that's the end of it.

Wow, so that guy scammed for over $1k?

I'm assuming the 3 people in this thread bought the same card for $350 a piece.

What a scumbag.

Also just gives creedence to the age old adage. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is. $350 for a 1080 you better be thinking A. This was stolen B. It's Damaged or C. Potential scammer and take the appropriate precautios.

Crappy situation though and I feel for those who were scammed. It's happened to me before, though in reverse. It's no fun, especially if you're like me and have a limited budget for this kind of stuff. Throws off everything you planned for.

I just filed my dispute. Will find out in 2-3 business days. I hope everyone else is doing the same. Google wallet and paypal F&F is pretty much the same thing. This is a case of someone utilizing their good feedback on here for bad. It sucks
