Shenmue III – The 1st Teaser | PS4

None of the Shenmue games looked awful, they were breathtaking. And the jank was forgivable due to quality of everything else. This is pretty disgraceful to attach the Shenmue legacy towards, it deserves so much better :(

Hoping for better, but they've been developing for 2 years now i guess, its barely a prototype, just looks like panning shots spliced together, not examples of gameplay.

I mean, when you compare the budget to the original games compared to the budget of this game, they're working with a hell of a lot less. Still, I think they'll make it work for what they're trying to achieve.

Outside of the lack of facial animation I kind of like the vibe of the game, can't wait to play the remasters first.

Obviously they wouldn't build a Naughty Dog-class of game (in terms of visuals/animations) with a team and a budget like that, so I can respect their decision of making a more intimate and minimalist game.

I was first among the people who would laugh at the game but now the artistic direction got me.

Why don't their eyes move? This is some next level creepy shit. It's like a PS1 game using current gen assets. Very sad to see Suzuki go out like this

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Backed by Sony? They provided some marketing support and an E3 spotlight and little else (maybe free dev kits... who knows...) and people still think Sony donated God knows how much money (which majorly hurt the Kickstarter... I guess people are happy now...).

Sorry, did not mean to offend... just that the whole situation makes me a bit sad :/.
You know that's a lot for a KS game, right?

I mean, even the enviornments don't look that good. Animation looks bad, enviornments look lifeless, lighting isn't too hot, and they don't even animate the characters faces? They shouldn't have shown the game off like this.

They have a ways to go, but thinking this was something worth showing to the public is worrying.

Big gulf in quality between the environments and character models there. The town looks great and I can't wait to explore it, but Shenhua in particular doesn't look good.

Yo I still can't believe this game is real, and that teaser gave me fucking chills. Yeah, the faces don't look amazing and they're not really showing gameplay but I DONT CARE. ITS SHENMUE 3 BABY GOD IS REAL

Go out like what? Its a year and a half away, plenty of time to sort out face animations which clearly aren't in there yet.

I was impressed. The environments look lovely. Yes the faces need a little work. Or a lot of work. But I think this has the elements of a shenmue I want.

This.

If they release another trailer after some time has passed and they show progress with the faces, I will be pleased. They have time and I know what to expect from this game after I backed it and the kickstarter ended.

I'm actually perfectly fine with the faces - its hilariously similar to the original and 2, and part of me thinks the game will not be the same with out that and equally hilarious voice acting.

All of that and I still really love those games.

The environments look really good. The faces could use some work but there's plenty of time for them to fix that.

Hyperbole is a hell of a drug.

People, the game is still in development. I'm sure they'll have time to work on the faces and animations. The rest of the game looks to be shaping up pretty well, especially considering the budget they're working with.

Yeah, i hope so. Its a dream come true but man, they need some money injected and to hire an experienced team. Id had hope Sony would try to help out here...or Deep Dive.

It looks like someone took Shenmue 2 and made one of those "What if X was made in Unreal Engine 4?" videos. :(

It really does, and it has the same problem as those videos: it doesn't look like it has an actual art style. It looks like stuff doen straight into the engine's default settings or something.

Glad to see Ryo does indeed look better in the video than the original new photo they showed the other day. Shenhua not so much.

Looks like there's still lots to polish but it's looking good. I doubt it'll hit first half of 2018 so there's plenty of time to add details.

Next step would be to see some very brief in-game scenarios and world in action. All in good time though.

I know it is blasphemous to say it out loud and I might get stoned...but the characters, their animations and facial expressions look bad. Like, really bad. Mid 90s video game CGI bad.

Edit:
To say something positive: The environments look very atmospherical. :)

The environments look amazing, they just need to get the character models and animations up to the same standard. Whether that's realistic or not remains to be seen.

Looks like the faces don't have any animation rigs/bones applied yet since the game is in development.

Cue classic Gaf panic, game doomed etc and the reason they're showing so little of this game to begin with.

Environments are hype, faces and animation need a fair bit more work but looking promising, title font still needs fixing lol.

Those have got to be placeholder faces. I refuse to believe they put that much effort into the environments only to say "Fuck it!" with the faces lol.

There's nothing wrong with complaining about how it looks. The developers should know if fans think it looks bad (I don't know if they're reading message boards, though).

Environments look great. Facial animation looks far less great. If it doesn't improve the lack of consistency will be a bummer, but this isn't necessarily insurmountable.

Well for a six million budget it looks fantastic tbh.

Whenever it releases i certainly will try it out never played these games before but if Sega follows up on those hd remasters i will get those first 2 too.
