The big Fall Direct is usually in Oct right?
They used to have their fall conferences post TGS although it's been a little all over the place since they started doing directs. Looking at the last couple years though, they haven't really done much at all in fall, so I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped having a major event until January. Particularly considering they just had a pretty significant presence at Gamescom.

I would be down for a Vesperia remaster or (cellshaded 3D) Phantasia remake. Haven't really cared for Tales since Higuchi got stolen for Tekken/Soulcalibur/Smash, just give me the old ones.

I would be in for a Tales of Vesperia remaster. It's the only Tales game I have ever had any interest in playing honestly.

Poor Capcom is trying to make the best of what little they got. =D
Legendary rewriting of the meaning behind Capcom 5.

I'm kind of pessimistic about what Sony's managed to cobble together for their event on the 19th, so I could see them asking Namco to save unveiling a Tales remaster for that.
Would be fun if the Switch Tales was multiplatform from the beginning and Sony secured exclusive mention of PS4 for it until close to the end of the FY when it also drops for Switch out of the blue.

You're telling me you don't believe they're unveiling a new piece of handheld hardware there?

Sony only needs MHW for their conference. Nothing else would be as big of a deal for Japan.

Guess people missed that leaked pic from the Foxconn worker?

That's true but also sad hun?

I forgot that MHW will be the ceiling for software on PS4, and it's not even likely to sell 2 million copies.

What else can Sony do to have multi million franchises on their consoles?

They already got Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest but neither are projected to sell 2 million, let alone 4 or 5 million.

But PS4 is over and done. This thread of thought concerns PS5.

Yeah, it is sad for Sony Japan. Not much they can really do since they don't have the IP power of Nintendo to compete in a meaningful manner even if they launched a new portable system.

With their domination in the global market though, I doubt they're as upset as I am.

I thought MHW wouldn't sell 1 million, let alone 2. When did the goalpost moved?

Sony never really tried with the Vita even with their existing IPs though.

They are developing multiple mobile games now based on their PlayStation IP, so they take the Japanese market very seriously. I have no idea what that PlayLink stuff for PS4 is, but they'll probably extend that to mobile apps with their own gameplay that connect to the PS system at home with its own, richer experience. A bit like semi-mimicking the Switch.

Finally the long rumored JRPG#2 from Verendus which will end up being Legend of Dragoon 2.

Sony never really tried with the Vita even with their existing IPs though.

What was the point in trying?

Sony saw ahead of everyone their key third party partners, on whom they've depended historically to push their hardware, weren't committing anything meaningful to the thing and Sony was never stupid to think they could ever single-handedly prop their own products so why throw good money after bad?

This is true to all Japanese 3rd parties whether the games would be on PS4, Switch or any other future platforms.

What would you define as trying in terms of their own IPs? They had an Uncharted game at launch and a Minna no Golf game too. I'm struggling to think of any notable IPs that Sony possess which could compete with Nintendo.

I mean, PSP was resurrected all because of one IP and it was a 3rd party one at that.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Speaking of goalposts I thought most were expecting around/over a million? Like Tri.

I dont think thats true...while Tri did well and the MH IP was around its height - the system itself was anything but the perfect plattform to play MH on in regard of online and multiplayer. And well pretty much every 3rdparty "gamer" game on Wii having lackluster performance.

MHW is the first mayor step for the IP in like a decade...so i think people expect at least around Tri sales - especially since Capcom hasnt planned any other mayor MH releases for the next year.

I think DQXI has shown us what is possible on the PS4....so the expectations are a bit higher for mayor releases now.

Expectations have been all over the place tbh. Some thought less than a million some thought more. Personally I've been in the over a million club for a while. If FF15 can do a million I don't see any reason MHW shouldn't.

Besides if I remember correctly that "big sales" of Tri were at bomba bins since it was heavily discounted few weeks after launch.

Indeed, game was massively overshipped.

Edit: I really don't know what to expect for MHW in Japan tbh, I don't think it will sell anything close to the portable outings besides XX. But it will probably do better than Tri.

Re: Tales of. Still convinced there's a Tales of Symphonia port somewhere, would fit with the "nostalgia" approach of some publishers (Konami with Bomberman, Capocom with USFII, SE with Mana Collection).

From the already known games Odyssey is less than 2 months away and preorders haven't opened yet. It can't be pushed back more, this direct will mark the start of marketing campaign. Same for Xenoblade 2.

Pretty much, yeah. I doubt they'd just drop pre-orders without warning, especially since there's most likely going to be a LE of some sort.

We still need to hear about that mysterious 3DS Kirby game too. A direct can't be too far away.

Personally i predicted similar sales to Tri. I remember most predictions put it around 500k-1m.
I thought around Tri was the consensus and it makes sense. I don't remember any going as low as 500k, that seems crazy low.

You expect higher than DQXI? I dunno, I guess it's possible but probably not by much.

I expected FFXV to do 1.5m so it made me a bit more pessimistic generally. DQXI will probably crawl to that though. I feel like MHW will wind up somewhere between them.

I was expecting to be released early November. It would be cool if Capcom, I am not sure if they will do in Japan like in the west, where the first game in on the retail pack and the second will be a download code.
In Japan I thought they were separate releases each on their own cards?

I wonder what Kirby will be like. With Planet Robopot this year and Switch one next it will be Level 5 level milking lf it's another tradinional platformer. This will be a heavily focused Switch direct but this game and Pokemon for 3DS will be there.

I'm expecting a Direct next week. It's a good space after Rabbids and the next big game is honestly FEW in October. This Pokken game doesn't count. I'm speaking from Switch.

And when the heck are we going to get Pokémon US/UM news? Are we getting a Pokémon Direct?

No, i meant that the expectations are higher now since DQXI has shown us what a game is able to sell on PS4. Before DQXI i would have said 900k-1m is the max MHW could reach....but as of now it could even sell more than that.

Just like prior to DQI launch many of our expectations took FFXV as the base of what was possible on PS4 and try to adjust the sales for DQXI.

Planet Robobot was last year, in April 2016. There has been several eshop releases this year though.
IIRC it was supposed to be multiplayer-centric.

Just don't base it off the downgraded PS2 version this time.

Get ready for Kirby Air Ride 2.
Yes please! I'd even be happy with a 3D remaster of the first game.

They have been quiet in recent years because they didn't have anything to announce and Iwata's death also altered plans. Also we know of some 3rd party companies such as L5 that have been really strange about announcing Switch projects that are in the works.

I'm think next week will be the only time for a direct. I suspect Nintendo will focus on its lineup for the rest of 2017. Launch trailers for Pokken, Samus and Fire Emblem Warriors. Season pass DLC announced for Fire Emblem Warriors. New trailers for Super Mario Odyssey, US/UM and Xenoblade 2. Reveal of BotW DLC as well as upcoming Splatoon and Arms dlc. I also think there will be some Japanese 3rd party Switch announcements that may be at TGS or at their TGS press conferences. There will also likely be a few early 2018 titles shown by Nintendo. Don't think Nintendo will wait until after TGS for a direct this year.

I saw speculation about this, but no confirmation. I played a lot the first one, saw I had no interest in playing it, just the second one.If I had the option to buy the retail version just of the second would be great.

Maybe someone here had more information.

Oh, I keep forgetting about that. I think last we heard it was to be a fighting game of some kind.

I agree. Also, I suspect we may see Mario Odyssey DLC announced either at the same Direct or, a la Zelda, in PR at the beginning of the month of release. I also think we're due for another first party eShop announcement or two soon, maybe Pushmo.
