People are saying this was the cause

That looks like some anarchist cookbook teenage loser bomb.

But Islamists are just driving trucks into people these days, so what do I know.

Reported on the radio as well, station is closed, ambulances and police are there, mentions of facial burns. Sounds like it was a comparatively small explosion, so lets hope there are no severe injuries .

Saw this moments ago - on train into London and hope no-ob badly hurt.

Assuming it was abandoned pictures look like pretty amateurish device but won't jump to conclusions: might be accidental although in context I'd assume not.

It's a bucket in a Lidl bag so probably not accidental

But yeah hopefully this is a minor incident but it makes me more uneasy about my commute. It's on the overground so not as crowded as the District Line can be in the morning but still.

I hope there are no fatalities!!!

But I'm still going to London next month. I'm not going to be afraid because of these assholes

There are like 4-5 million journeys a day on the tube, checks at gates aren't really tenable - people just have to be vigilant and report suspicious activity and such.

Going back to London tomorrow and that got me nervous. This won't stop me from going to the tube, just feeling nervous about this. What a piece of human garbage to do this sort of thing.

On the Tube? That will never happen
Never say never. I think about the metal detectors that started appearing in American high schools in the 90s. And you need to pass through a security check just to get into the food court of LAX.

Yes, many high security venues do bag checks (galleries, some cinemas etc)

But it would be impossible to do so on the tube without grinding London to a halt.

Over 3 million journeys per day on average.
Not gonna happen.

What about subways? Because that's what this is about.

Come on UK, get your shit together. Seems like there's an attempt every month.

What does this mean?

Assuming this is a failed terrorist attempt, how do you effectively guard against the sort of low level, 'easy' attacks we've had lately: driving cars into people, going crazy with a knife, carrying a bucket of (potentially) explosives onto a tube in an entirely normal shopping bag?

It's almost impossible to prevent so I don't think its necessarily fair to imply there is any level of shit to get together.

With all due respect to your opinion

I fell annoyed by this statement on so many levels
That is an overgeneralisation that the uk sort itself ?

What do you think it is doing just sitting there ? Pouring its budget into crumpets scones and sausage rolls?

Consider this me tutting at you and giving you a hard staring down the end of my glasses.
Cretin!!

Looks like an attempt at a homemade bomb. They'll be able to check the contents and see for ingredients/shrapnel or anything like that. If it's not a homemade explosive then what the heck is it?

Hopefully no one was injured or injured seriously.

Obviously. But my examples of security checks in schools and food courts are equally logistical nightmares to a subway.

Have you been on down there in London? It seems literally impossible.
Tight. Multiple entrances. 270 stations.
And like someone else said, wouldn't it just create a big target?

A person had possibly facial burns so who knows. Maybe it was tame fireball and unfortunately in a contained space got some people. It certainly doesn't look like anything super destructive, it's mostly intact.
