Naw its so many good teams to choice from, its gonna make me play online more, tired of everybody online using Cavs and Warriors, people will use other teams

Nothing has changed about that. I'm Top 100 in Play Now Online, and I'm now always playing Warriors or Cavs...

Gaf, I'm an NBA 2k newbie. Picked it up the Spike Lee version on PS4 because it was free and because my 10year old stat-tracking basketball FIEND of a old nephew wanted something to play with me. So, I got it and he DESTROYS me.

I'm tired of him destroying me. Also, I kind of dig the game.

So I picked up the Switch version and i'm amazed by how good it is looks for a portable. However, I'm having some problems. I really don't get some of the controls. I've goofed around in the tutorial mode and some things aren't sticking or explained.

1. My nephew pointed out in the PS4 version that there's a colored icon below your player that shows when the player is in the best place to shoot. When he showed me that, it was like a light switch going off and my shot percentages started going way up. That's not in the SWITCH Version. There's a meter for when to release that I simply CANNOT figure out, but that other icon? No clue how to activate it. I spent forever on the solo practice court just trying to shoot and I could barely land 1 in 15. Shooting just seemed much easier on the PS4 version.

2. In DEFENSE, there seems to be a LOT of auto control in this game, which is fine. However, in the PS4 version, I'd switch to my playable defender to directly cover my opponent, and I remember holding R2 which would put me in a guard-like position that made it easier to either reach in to steal or or jump to block shots. It doesn't appear to be the same on the SWITCH. Once you do ANY action on the Switch, the computer breaks your guard and does whatever they want - usually scores. I'm left left behind the action looking like an idiot. What am I doing wrong here?

I haven't kept up with basketball in years, so I'm not up on stats. Consider me a complete newbie. I do, however, enjoy trying to play this game. Suggestions?

You wanna know the other teams personnel and paly accordingly. Lebron James? I'd back up and give him space to shoot. Curry? Crowd him. Etc. If anything you can play off-ball denial which can be frowned upon but you'd still be playing passing lanes waiting for the steal. On-ball defense a lot harder just because of the fact that you almost have to guess where your opponent is going to cut them off

Its gonna take time, but with practice you will get it if you are dedicated enough my man.

Ive been playing 2k since the dreamcast, and the recent 2ks are fine tuning the excellent base they had with 2k11. So for me to get the stick skills down, it took seven years of practice and familiarity.

Im planning on doing a bunch of tutorials. But i put a short video up on basic setups through jab steps. It is sloppy since it was a stream and i had no preparation, but here is a decent attempt at teaching the basics of the jab step system this year, which is miles aheadthe previous versions:

Wow so this is wide spread issue then. Same thing happen to me with 2k16 and I lost over 40k VC and received no refund from 2k.

I mean I wont even choose regular teams anymore, classic teams play classic teams and people choice from a variety of teams same with all time teams they play all time teams online. I never have to play the same team all the time online, most people have their different fav teams from the past. It just makes online so much more fun.

Do not spend real money on this game.

My data just got corrupted out of no where. Had to start over. I did switch to another profile on my nintendo switch while in a game - maybe this made the error happen? Will test this later. I didn't spend any real money, but if I did I would be so upset right now. I wasted a lot of time on my character too. Ugh.

Love the gameplay and presentation still.

Buggy as shit on Switch unfortunately, too bad since it looks and plays solid even at 30 FPS and the actual in-game gameplay seems to work well. It's the overworld, cutscenes, etc. that are killing me.

Dunking depends on your player, not everyone is going to be able to drive to the basket and dunk.

As for defending, don't constantly try to steal because that will leave you out of position or give away a foul. Best to use the left trigger to shadow the attacker and use the right stick to contest a shot when you think one is coming. Sticking your hands in a shooter's face is the best way to make them miss and is what you should be doing the vast majority of the time. Save blocks for times when you are close to the basket and are 100% sure the shot is coming, or as a last ditch effort after your man has beaten you.

I spent the morning giving Live a shot.. so far I like the "career/myplayer" mode there more than 2k.. not to mention the loading is far better. I honestly think this is the year I switch and then next year I just do not buy 2k.

3) when on defense, sometimes the words 'switch' or 'got ball' will pop up on a player. He clearly does not have the ball. What's that all about?

Really enjoyed what I've played. I'm hoping the issues on the outside of game stuff get fixed before I decide to move on to career and all that.

2) Press R1 to bring up Icon Passing, X will always go to your PG, Circle Shooting Guard, Square Small Forward, Triangle Power, L2 your Center and L1 the guy closest to the hoop. Same applies on defense. I would absolutely nail this because directional passing doesn't always work as intended. ALWAYS USE ICON PASSING. This is for everyone that has been asking for tips. USE IT.

3) How do you even get those to pop up? I've been wanting the defensive communication things but I haven't seen it yet -- only in videos. I don't know how it works but if the CPU is saying they have ball then that probably means don't help out and Switch means you switch onto their man .. or is it YOU that makes the defensive call outs? Either way been meaning to play w this feature and don't know how to enable it.

It's the same amount of bugs every other 2K game has in my experience of the game.

Live defitnely is better this year, the way they handle career is a breath of fresh air compared to 2K. The leveling system is wayyy better.

I don’t know why it’s like this. It’s ok to have a story but damn let people skip all that, we’re still here for basketball. That’s why I stopped playing career last year and stuck with All star teamup, but then you deal with chucks. Like why play a 5 v 5 mode if you wanna play 1 v 5?

Not to mention you can’t even create a career player the way you want to with this archetype bullshit cause of vc and the park/neighborhood.

I guess 2K just ain’t for me anymore. I really hope EA can get their groove and make a strong competitor cause 2K needs one badly.

This "disconnecting from online when in sleep mode" issue on Switch is really annoying. Spent awhile creating custom teams for My League, but didn't finish. Went back later and lost all progress because of the network disconnect.

Is there any workaround for this? Or any way to save in the middle of creating leagues/teams/etc?

Sounds like cut scenes in myplayer mode, everything else seems fine, gameplay is smooth, if your just playing franchise mode you should be good

1) Yep, like a letter B in a circle with a shrinking circle around that which seems to indicate a timer.

For number 3, sometimes they will say player names to say who they are guarding. Are you using the Lakers?

Is anybody having inexplicable missed shots? Like wide open shots with good or excellent timing clanging bricking all over the place, and bizarre misses on lighly contested layups and finger rolls? I don't remember this being such an obvious problem in 2k17. CPU teams don't seem to have any problem draining contested 3's all day.

I missed a green release mid-range jumper with Kahwi Leonard, and then LaMarcus Aldrige grabbed the rebound and blew the second chance layup. All that was missing was the Benny Hill yakety sax music.

It honestly seems like a crapshoot. I'd say they miss 30-40% of the time. That never used to be the case on Pro. You really didn't have to mind the hot/cold zones as tightly on the lowest two difficulty settings in the past.

I would try powering off your switch completely and powering it back on. I'm not sure if it's an OS bug or memory leak or what, but it seems like some games have issues if your Switch has been on for an extended period. Fast RMX just released a patch that fixed a lock up for that specific problem. Rayman Legends has an issue on one of the early levels with framerate tanking that is mostly resolved by a reboot. It's odd. I hope Nintendo fixes it with a firmware upgrade.
