Destiny 2 |OT2| Leviathan Wakes (Spoiler Tag ALL Raid Discussion)

I ran the raid on all three characters yesterday. Two of those raids were without any errors and we completed the last raid in just slightly over an hour. The other two taking only an hour and a half. Finally got both the hand cannon and rocket launcher out of it.

Efficient as fuck.

Please don't increase PL to 350 - such a hassle to chase another cap after getting 3 characters to 305.

Its probably going to only keep increasing. The good news is that with every expansion it will likely be easy and quick to get within 50 PL of the max.

Currently hard crashing back to PS desktop ~75% of the time I try to load into the tower. Someone at Activision / Bungie must have some seriously incriminating photos of the Sony cert team for this patch to have passed muster.

I'm digging the faction rally. It's pushed a lot of people out into the public events, given me a new reason to run lost sectors, and the daily milestones are adding rewards to other events (strikes today). And the loot is generous - 10 tokens earns a faction package. Good stuff.
Yeah it's been fun. There's at least something I want from all three loot-wise, too, which is a good look.

My only complaint or request for next time is, once you've heard the "pitch" from all three factions on one character, your other two should just be able to pledge to the one of your choice without having to go to them all again. Maybe it's just a permanent character flag in which case no one will have to do it at all the next time around, so this could be moot.

Is there really any point to running the raid if you have the gear you want out of it and don't need the extra light levels? I'm guessing no, but it seems weird to be "done" with the raid after 2 weeks.

Well, what's the point of playing video games lol? The whole point of Destiny is to use the loot you get. I enjoy the raid - especially more when I things.

Only fun at that point, if this raid was enjoyable to you.

I know once I get the gear, I'll probably never run it again, aside from trying prestige.

50 just seems like a huge increase lol.

I agree but you have to keep in mind the new expansion is not suppose to release until sometime this winter (which could be as late as February). You will have plenty of time to grind to 350. I doubt I will ever even see 350 until the next expansion because I have only one character at 295 and my life is a bit more busy now compared to when I was playing D1 a few years ago. I think its a good number to keep people with a lot of free time busy while giving more casual players with limited gaming time something to feel like they can realistically work towards.

I'm surprised that there are people who want to make this game more grindy ala Destiny1., D2 is totally hitting the sweet spot for me.

Then again I have a fulltime job and other responsibilities,

Just got sweet business from fwc!

Also, is there any real advantage to celestial nighthawk on a hunter? It actually seems like it downgrades golden gun dps wise.

Think I might shard it for my foetracer.

Celestial Nighthawk is the best overall DPS for the majority of PvE content especially with the bottom crit bonus. One shot means after the ton of headshot damage you can quickly return to normal fire. Just like someone else said, in the raid
Pleasure Gardens and Baths is immensely easier with it. Instant one lantern in baths and destroys the dogs with damage bonus in Gardens.

And it looks better than FoeTracer!

I guess not, for me... being a competition I want the full raid set and every weapon before I call it quits.

Sitting at level 304 I could stop, but nah... I want the gear :p

agreed. Its a lot less fear of missing out because i can get my weekly stuff done pretty easily. even Leveling up other characters is super easy.

For any Giant Bomb fans out there, they are streaming their raid attempt at www.giantbomb.com/chat

I'm interested in hearing what Jeff will think about some of the worse portions of the raid. I think those portions are probably worse than anything he's done before when it comes to raid.

Like why are RNG weapon perks even a discussion now? They are gone and unequivocally for the better. Chasing RNG godrolls was never ever fun. The current fixed perk system also gives every gun a clear identity.

Because other people have different opinions? I don't think it's objectively better for everyone. I also think that the RNG godroll chase didn't negatively impact the majority of the playerbase. Hell, it probably didn't impact them at all. The main playerbase won't be found on here. The main playerbase probably hasn't even heard of gaf. I don't see how RNG rolls are "hugely impacting" when even the hardest content of D1 could easily be cleared with suboptimal rolls on gear.

I feel like there is a massive disconnect between some veteran players here and the main playerbase.

If you want a certain weapon archetype with different perks, then stop freaking out as they will be added over the course of the game's life, just as seperate named guns from different specific sources - like they should be. We just saw that literally this reset with The Number being Uriel's Gift with different perks.

And if people want a grind so bad, there's many other things Bungie could do to add some grind without hugely negatively impacting non-hardcore players, like strike-exclusive rewards (Bonds, Marks, Cloaks, perhaps Armor) or even giving Xur more things to sell but reintroducing Strange Coins for him.

Hmm, it is a substantial DPS increase over 3 regular precision golden gun shots on the bottom spec, and an enormous increase over the top spec, on a single target.

Both in the "damage" sense (does more total) and the "seconds" sense (takes less time to do it). Make sure to use the bottom spec and connect with a crit shot. On the raid boss and
pleasure gardens
in particular, because of the damage buff stacks, it is essentially the absolute best you can do in terms of using your super offensively.

It is useless outside of the context of a high health target I.e. Nightfall, PE or raid boss. In all other cases, one of the two regular GG options are better.

I can understand why people didn't like the perk system, but it never bothered me. I played around 500 hours of Destiny and I don't think I ever had a godroll nor did I chase one. I just used the guns that I enjoyed and if the same gun dropped with perks I liked more I switched. Nothing in Destiny (except maybe Trials, but I won't blame my weapons for my performance there) required a godroll to be successful.

Not that I blame people for being glad the system is gone, but I liked the variety.

I’m currently 292 and I’m thinking about trying the prestige nightfall. Am I high enough light or should I wait until I’m around 300 or so?

So is there a hard cap for legendary engrams? They were scaling with me, but now I'm 280 and they are staying at 272. Google stated a Max decrypt level of 270 which is not right obviously.

Also haven't run a NF or raid yet. Is a mic needed for these?

For the next faction rally i think i'll pledge for the same faction on all three characters. This time i should've chosen FWC. Good looking armors and great weapons.

I'm just going to rotate them for each guardian each time they come up, variation is the spice of life and all that.

Yea it's been great, feels like a lot more people are running about.

Anyone else think there's no bonus for being over levelled in Destiny 2? Once you're above the recommended power, the recommended power on death shows your current power level. Need to save the early gear from my third character and test things.

Claim gear rewards one at a time and re-maximize your power after every claim.

You don't need to do this, the power level of any gear from across your account that your character can equip is taken into consideration.

Holy shit! I think Lindsay Bluth's chicken dance is in the game! I'm sure I saw it, and knew it reminded me of something.

It is indeed. Friend has it.

hmmm i guess i should try Celestial Nighthawk

Holy shit! I think Lindsay Bluth's chicken dance is in the game! I'm sure I saw it, and knew it reminded me of something.

I have 2 cool exotic hologram emotes

I bought Lindsay's chicken dance first chance with my Bright Dust

and now that's my Go-to Emote lol

Fuck you Bungie for not letting us equip two emotes. It's not that hard.

That was sort of annoying running all over the place. Esp. for D1 veterans who know (more or less) what each factions stands for in D2.

On another note - Did you post your raid-guide you were working on? I still dont understand the checkpoint system and was going to see if you touched on that and if/how the weekly reset works etc. I still need to be Calus but if i have to redo all the other encounters without being able to skip in the underbelly or through doors i'll be bummed.

I think it depends on your teammates. I cleared my first one at 289, but I had 2 +300 guys with me at the time. YMMV, but I think you're fine.

Sigh I guess I'll keep repeating this for everyone who comes in talking about chasing god rolls.

Bungie already fixed the tedious nature of grinding for god rolls with the HoW expansion which allowed you to reroll perks. This mean that there was still some grind to get the weapon like there is now along with a slight grind to get materials but allowed you to work towards something in a much more efficient way. You don't throw the baby out with the bath water when a solution exists to the problem at hand.

Fixed drops gives every gun a clear identity yes- most of which are space eaters in your vault or dismantling fodder. If thats an unequivocal better system to you than idk what else to say.

Being added down the road is not a solution to the current problem as 1. we don't know how true that is and at what rate it will happen and 2. it doesn't help the already lackluster weapon system as it exists now.

Bungie should add more end game content to grind for, is really the solution here but having the ability to better customize your weapons is something that not only helps with feeling like you have more to work towards(aka grind) but also allows for a more diverse weapon pool which plenty of people liked (and in a game where shotguns and snipers are obsolete at end game, any way to add more flavor to the weapon system would be appreciated). The problem is, Bungie removed these perks because they can't balance their game very easily and wanted to streamline everything in order to do so (mostly for PvP). Thats the real reason perks are gone.

Legendaries will scale about -10 with your current Power. You can get Legendaries stronger than your power level via "Powerful Gear" and other certain activities

Raid absolutely requires a mic. You need to give your teammates audio cues in multiple instances.
In one of my raids we ended up having to cut it short because one guy was terrible at announcing the audio cues

Nightfall is better with a mic especially if you don't know what to do not required tho.

OOooooooo... Be SUPER careful... i got butt-punched yesterday for the exact same phrasing. And i even used "lol". Might want to rephrase or run and hide.

lol I still love you Bungie. Game is pretty amazing. Give us moar.

The fact there is an ArrestedDevelopment reference in there makes you my heroes.

I might rotate as well. Personally i don't like the feeling of having to switch characters because i need to farm another faction. With all characters in the same faction i just can play with whichever class i'm having fun with.

To be honest i was always a FWC kind of guy. I just pledged for DO in D1 for so long because of their shaders.

yeah, I wouldn't sweat too much trying to get to 305 since they are going to raise the LLs when the prestige raid rolls out, so that means the soft cap would raise as well, 350 would be the new LL right?

Here I am still haven't run the raid or set foot in it, need to find the time to sit down with a group that doesn't mind taking a n00b through ;)

I agree, been wishing for separate balance since early on in Destiny 1

Yep. There are definitely other games that generally have much more interesting weaponry in terms of functionality that don't focus as much/if at all on PvP balance. I get the point of wanting things to feel the same, but I just think most of the PvE stuff is pretty bland as a result.

Exactly. I pray that one day PvE and PvP will be balanced completely separate.

I'm surprised that there are people who want to make this game more grindy ala Destiny1., D2 is totally hitting the sweet spot for me.

Then again I have a fulltime job and other responsibilities,

So? I have a full time job with kids and I'd like the game to be more grindy. Part of the fun was grinding for that perfect roll. Finding dead ghosts. Stuff like that. The game is too homogenized now. There's little incentive to keep coming back once you get the weapons you want.

I think the grind overall is pretty good right now.

What I'd add is better loot for harder strikes, a random exotic/powerful reward for doing all lost sectors/treasure chests on each planet, and maybe an exotic/powerful reward for something like collecting a bunch of planetary mats. There just isnt much of a reason to do some of the stuff right now.

An exotic sword for clearing the map would be great (all lost sectors + treasure chests). The last chest could give you some awesome reward. Still a grind obviously, but not a terrible one if the reward is good imo.

Didn't realize legendary engrams capped at 265, sort of a bummer. Makes a lot of stuff mostly useless for me.

Guess I'm supposed to raid now, but of course it's the same problem I run into with WoW. You need better gear to raid to get better gear to raid to get better gear....most groups I see are 290+ lol

Who's dick do I gotta suck to get a 300 Hunter cloak? Squeezed all my weekly milestones besides Nightfall, Raid and Trials (which I suck at)
