Two men narrowly escape California fire. "We're gonna die, dude!"

Look I'm glad they survived.

But this is some white people ass shit if ever I've seen it.

Mandatory evacuation ignored, camera on the whole time instead of "well shit maybe we should just go"

correct about everything
well, this video has invalidated all my criticisms for found footage movies when people keep filming when shit goes down.

Did they end busting through a gate towards the end there? I would be nervous about disabling the vehicle.

Just a FYI for everyone going to go "Why were they there still?"

A lot of the initial fires that happened up around here in Northern California had little to no warning and happened so fast people couldn't evacuate as it was occuring

Officials even said the early warning systems in place Reverse 911 and a Messaging systen Nixle (That sends text messages to your cellphone) only had about 8000 people signed up for it in the Napa/Sonoma counties but jumped to 80k. Another problem being most people just don't have landlines anymore so the whole reverse 911 thing doesn't do much either.

There was an article I read about Sheriffs and Firefighters basically having to go door to door pounding on doors to try and warn people they had so little time.

Reminds me of that family where their son died and everyone is burned.

Why are people waiting until the last second?

Glad their ok. But Jesus. Hope they learned a valuable lesson.

this post is some nonsensical racism shit if i've ever seen it

i agree they're dumb, but come on

(edit: clarify, dumb for recording, not for being in the situation)

It's always easy to judge when it's not you in that situation, without all the relevant information. We know literally nothing about these two besides what's shown in the video.

There is an inferno surrounding them.

That doesn't happen in an instant.

I agree, I don't know all the details. But I also refuse to believe they were completely ignorant to the oncoming fire.

It caught lots of folks exactly like that.

Wildfires can travel very fast and often jump from house to house. Entirety possible they got caught off guard.

It can spread about as fast as the wind, which can be pretty damn fast

And this looks like it was during the night. Everything could look fine in the evening, go to sleep, wake up surrounded a few hours later

Jesus, I'm glad they all got out OK. That looked like a fucking hellscape, can't imagine what being there in person must have felt like.

As for why they were there, they very likely just got blindsided by a fast-as-all-fuck fire with little or no warning beforehand. Especially at night it can be incredibly easy to just get overwhelmed especially with something as fast-moving as a wildfire.

It's so incredibly easy to go all Captain Hindsight and imply they have a death wish or that it's a race thing to want to die in a fire (seriously wtf) when you've likely never experienced a wildfire nor know much about them in the first place.

Or maybe they did this for attention.

Yikes. Not the time to make a video to sell to viral hog.

Really?

Depending on when this was filmed they might not have gotten warning. Apparently alot of the fire hit at the middle of the night in neighborhoods in minutes and without warning since the fires took the power down first

Video of the fire as it hit the first night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptsrbej99ag

Unless you're sleeping during it, how do you not see or notice a huge forest fire coming your direction and take precautions or evacuate? Not trying to victim blame but it reeks of will full ignorance

Yes it can.

Even last year, half of an Albertan city in Northern Canada burnt down because the wind turned suddenly. Zero warning.

Willfull ignorance?

Why would someone want to be ignorant of a massive fire heading towards them?

Do you know anything about how forest fires work?

Uh how do we even know either/both of them are white? Not to mention that people of all races do dumb stuff. Furthermore how do you know how they got in to the situation they were in?

People were sleeping during it. All of this video you are seeing is in the very early hours of that first day where the winds made the fire spread incredibly fast.

That was very scary to watch. I'm so happy they made it out, but watching this video makes me think of the 40 people who didn't and what it may have been like for them. It's awful to think about.

In the video one guy said "Why didn't they tell us to evacuate". They weren't told to evacuate at this point or something.

Yes, it can and does.

In fact, your kind if thinking I'd exactly why a lot of people don't evacuate immediately when they're told to.

Though it sounds like in this case the guys weren't told to evacuate.

For clarification. The issue that I have is not that they didn't hear the evacuation notice or not but the would rather hold their phone than cover and protect his mouth from the smoke.

The entire escape could have been compromised because they wanted to videotape it.

Massive fires can create hurricane force winds, which blow around fires at tremendous speed. You may not even see a fire only to have it bearing down on you in minutes.

You can see it pretty well in that video when they got out - the guy filming was being whacked by embers flying sideways. These videos are all so surreal.

Some people need to get perspective before they talk out of their ass with regards to their motivations or why they were there. Wildfires are incredibly dangerous and spread fast. We are talking sometimes minutes or even seconds before where you thought it was far away reaches you. The heat and wind exacerbate this.

Look at how many firefighters trained for this still lose their lives. I once saw a video of Argentinian firefighters fighting a blaze be overtaken in literally seconds and they can't do anything. Even their emergency fire blankets did nothing.
