Microtransactions thats what players want caugh (EA) caugh.
Nintendo and Bethesda, forever and forever, a hundred years Nintendo and Bethesda
Turned into GaaS.Wait what the fuck
What happens to the Star Wars game
Do they have dedicated singleplayers that are untouched by lootboxes? If so, they aren't GaaS.
At all. First Battlefront sold 16 million.
second game will sell a lot as well and make money. EA is actually doing their jobs in this aspect.
Notice a trend there? (All either Sony or Nintendo 1st party)
You said "Every large scale single player game you can think of is 1st party only or Bethesda," which to me signals all types of single-player games, including open-world (large scale), not just linear story based single-player games. If you meant to say what you're saying now, then understood.
In regards to single-player allegedly dying, I was more referring to the other poster who said "traditional gaming is dead," as if gaming hasn't been constantly evolving.
AAA single players games are basically dead, right?
By the way, is there any reason why EA never SELLS these companies? Like if they're not going to do anything with these guys anymore I don't really see why they're never up for sale or just let go but EA retains all IP rights (not that they even do much with those anyway) or something to that effect. They always just go straight into the trashcan.
You don't get to define what GaaS means.Do they have dedicated singleplayers that are untouched by lootboxes? If so, they aren't GaaS.
Not jumping on the "GaaS is inherently evil!!!!" and making an incredibly broad assumption based on very little information is not damage control.damage controlling this and trying to muddle the conversation as though we don't have plenty of context for this is a weird look, honestly
Why over 10m? Most games regardless of them being SP or MP or both don't hit that.
Anyway The Witcher 3, Pokemon Sun/Moon and probably Uncharted 4 by now. There's not many games a generation that hit 10m+.
Games as a Service provide a constant revenue stream to the publisher rather than a once-off purchase of the game itself. The definition for GaaS isn't really described by a personal feeling, man.
Notice a trend there? (All either Sony or Nintendo 1st party)
Look at the thread titles:
Bethesda and 3 and a half under-performing games in a row
Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)
EA shuts down Visceral, moves Star Wars game to EA Vancouver/others
Resident Evil 7 Ships 4 Million Copies Worldwide (At 500K/2M FY goal by March 2018)
I think God is trying to tell us something today.

That piece of shit sold 16 million !?
Didnt they try to sell you half the game with a $50 season pass?
Included the corpse of BioWare because reasons...
What example can you name in the industry currently that is a AAA single player focused title and isn't open world from a 3rd party that was successful.
That piece of shit sold 16 million !?

It's not that surprising. Those are all games that likely required a shit ton of money and resources, not something every developer has access to. With the middle tier no longer existing, creating AAA SP games to the standard of expectation and polish of developers like ND and Nintendo is no easy feat.
Have some friends at EA Van so heard rumblings about this recently.
Not even shocked TBH.

Does this guarantee Dead Space is dead? Any chance some other EA studio will take it up, or an external studio will buy the IP or something?
Anyone made an updated version of this? The pic's a classic but it's woefully out of date.
Nier Automata
.
So lootboxes is your benchmark for GaaS? Hmmmm....Do they have dedicated singleplayers that are untouched by lootboxes? If so, they aren't GaaS.
Uh... That is an updated version. Can't you tell?
1313 was cancelled before EA got the SW IP.And here is the result of Disney giving exclusive Star Wars gaming rights to EA until about 2022 or 2023......................absolute pile of shit, and (counting the first Battlefront as half a game) we'll have gotten 1.5 real Star Wars games, plus a handful of shit mobile games in the 5-6 years since Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney and Lucasarts was shut down.
Such amazing lost potential here. 1313, Any Hennig Star Wars etc. Countless visionary artists and creative dev teams could be producing amazing Star Wars games to rival or surpass the likes of Xwing, Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, Knights of the Old Republic etc.
Why did this have to happen to Star Wars? Why can't we have nice things?
"Only the games I don't like count" seems to be a common trend among people who're hysterical about GaaS as a concept. So lootboxes is your benchmark for GaaS? Hmmmm....
That game is not a AAA budget by any means. A modern AAA game selling 2 million would be seen as a colossal failure. That game is successful specifically because it's a non AAA game with a fraction of the budget
UC4 has MP. Anyhow what linear SP games w/o GaaS are EA, Ubi or Activision publishing annually that are not massive sellers? That was my point.

That's what I posted right underneath my smiley face.
Yup, I had those same feelings when EA had the Bond license, even if they produced some good games with is. There's so much talent out there, that could possibly tackle a great Star Wars game, yet, all we are stuck with is with EA and a small number of their studios and let's face it, DICE is the only good one they have left (Respawn is independent)My thoughts exactly, this has without a doubt been the worst time to be a fan of Star Wars games. It kills me knowing that there are tons of really solid developers out there, both old and new, that would be a killer fit for the IP, but won't even get into the pitch room until 2023 at the earliest (assuming the 10 year deal started on the day of that announcement). Throw in the fact that EA BF1 was lacking in features and that EA BF2 is looking to be a mechanical mess between the changed shooting and loot boxes and it just leaves you really wanting...
Bummer for those that are at Visceral though, hopefully they land on their feet.
I mean, can another company offer more than EA to get the license? I only see ACTIVION/BLIZZARD like a possibile buyer, the others? Nah.
I recommend that anyone upset by this news pick up The Evil Within 2- a fine, complete, single player-only AAA adventure title with no microtransactions released last week.
I'm good I left over 4 months ago. Thanks for the concern though!
