I really don't have anything that meaningful to say. Who knows what really happened.
But I have found this to be the greatest GAMING discussion forum there ever was, most people here understand how the industry and how gaming development works, leading to much more productive discussions. I think that alone makes this community special since it's practically unheard of to have this type of high level discussion anywhere on the internet. I've learned a lot here about how things go behind the scenes.
And the E3 and PSX threads, nothing in life comes close to that.
And the news, news is posted here way quicker than anything else, this community is on top of that shit.
Elephant in the room is the off-topic board and the political discussion it contained. Loved OT for the discussion of tv, movies, new tech, personal advice etc... But damn, the political discussion was imo, way out of hand. Kind of agree with the echo chamber sentiments. Seemed like you couldn't have a differing opinion without being labelled scum who should just die. I agree it was getting toxic, and probably turning off potential new members. (as others have said, look at reddit at the celebrations of this place burning) Definitely came off as extreme far far left, and i'd also argue that the overall tone and attitude on display here is EXACTLY how trump got elected. That sort of extremism is a little frightening for some. (the irony of trump himself being extreme is not lost on me)
As someone like myself, who simply tries to ignore the political non-sense that's been going on, seeing off-topic flooded with political threads was off-putting. Long before this happened, I always thought politics should get its own separate board.
I got a little side tracked, but my original point was this: For gaming discussion, which is what this site's main purpose is, this place is special, and I think it wrong for all these people to jump ship over the accusations of one man. You don't even know if these accusations are true. Some people do lie, even if the person in question is a known asshole, doesn't mean he did it. Maybe the woman has a grudge? Not saying he didn't do it, maybe he did, But we must consider both possibilities.
Is it worth throwing away this mostly great community over something some woman claimed on facebook? Even if he's guilty, he was accused of getting in the shower with her, nothing more. Gross? yes. But even she hasn't claimed he did anything more than that.
The extreme reaction to the situation I think solidifies some others thoughts on what was wrong with the political discussion in off topic in the first place. Extreme reactions. And that I think, is a reflection of why the US is so divided. We're all so extreme in our beliefs we don't really have adult conversations anymore (if we ever did)
I went on way longer and rambled way more than I intended but I'm done. Time to get back to actual gaming discussion and #MakeGAFgreatagain

I agree, to me its very shocking that the forum basically imploded over allegations. Seriously, just allegations. Not a journalistic expose or anything, but screencaps with censored names from spotty sources. A seriously extreme reaction over pure allegations. Even writing this post, I feel like people will get mad at me for suggesting that Evilore could be telling the truth. Nothing has been proven either way. The only thing Evilore is 100% guilty of right now is stalling and then posting a response which reflects poorly on him in regards to him attacking the woman's mental health.

Thanks for bringing neogaf back online. I think the refocus on gaming is great as well, off topic was very polarizing and for me at least will not be missed. I have been coming here on and off for years and was quite concerned when it went down, I thought that this might be the end ( similar to the great gaming age forum crash, though I had only been a member for a year or two at that point so not quite as invested). Anyways hopefully neogaf will bounce back from this as it is a great forum for game discussion.

There's been a mass exodus, pretty much all key members, influencers, and communities gone to the wind or at least find it's better to be in Discord where they are not so directly linked to sexual assault allegations, all the good mods of the past are gone, etc.

If you were to later have consensual sex with my sister based on these same circumstances I would say, she probably had an interest in you when you jumped in the shower balls out. You don't go from "SEXUALLY ASSAULTED, CAN'T TAKE IT, HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME, ME TOO", to sex with the guy later on. It doesn't work like that. Ask real victims of sexual assault if they could see themselves having sex later on with the perp. I'm certain the answer would be no. I'm not disgusting, I'm logical.

I'm not saying I'm right in thinking that victims wouldn't later on engage in physical contact. For you comparing it to people in abusive relationships, that's an unfair comparison. It's not like Evilore and this lady were in constant contact. It's not like they were in a relationship. I don't know the whole story, and not that it's any of our business. If you took my mother and sister -- or anyone of the sex you are attracted to above the age of consent -- on a road trip, got a hotel room with them, sat in the hotel room getting wasted with them, then neither I nor any other sane person would be surprised if someone made a sexual advance on someone else in that situation.

The thing you are missing is that this ACTUALLY happens, contrary to how you think it goes down. It doesn't matter if you "think" someone who was traumatized would never end up having sex with them later on. They do. Because of a culture of not wanting to speak out, or a culture of society seeing them in the wrong. The mind works in fucked up ways, trying to internally rationalize something that you know is wrong. She seemingly went out of her way to try and forgive him for what he did, given the account that she gives in the Waypoint article. And yet he continues to be a dick, and tries to allege she's mentally ill?
You are straight up wrong about how this works, and why people are as angry at Evilore as they are.
You're right, some victims can get out of a victimized position, some can't too, some are in shock & don't report they're being victimized, some make decisions that would seem irrational from the outside, like engaging in consenual sex later on with their abuser.
Sexual assault is waaaaaaaaay too complicated from the victims stand point to try and look at it from a logical perspective.
