I spent a lot of time browsing and reading the site for news and community reaction to events in off-topic.
Always found it was a great place to aggregate info as it came in and seemed to take a stance against discrimination and nonsense in its moderation.
Had no idea all this stuff with the owner was going on and now it seems like the best parts of the discussion board are being eliminated.
I don't want to be associated with a videogame message board that is in the news for its owner assaulting women - seems like a simple decision.
It's too bad that the owner's issues have overshadowed a once interesting and developing community.
If the administration were to change in the future I would consider returning.

Oh, I'm aware of that, I was just wondering if the same mods that helped him ban members when discussing about that pedophile would be affiliated in any way with the new board. Cause if they are that's not a good look to be honest.

Gaming related reddit subs are great for news but awful for discussion.

the community downvoting opinions they disagree with (which hides your posts from the thread) is fucking toxic and the chat messaging structure makes it a complete clusterfuck trying to discuss gaming conferences such as E3 and Nintendo directs.

Yeah, in a world where GAF has been accused of hiding or covering up for past mods transgressions and the attempted cover-up of the current accusations almost led to the destruction of the entire site, I don't think less transparency is the answer.

It seems that, going forward, this community will be comprised almost exclusively of people who are willing to excuse or overlook sexual harassment. I can't help but feel that the overall mood of this forum is going to become more misogynistic and treated as a "man cave" type of environment where guys talk about guy stuff, now that members have basically self-selected themselves and those with a hard stance against sexual harassment have left.

I can't have a friendly discussion about games knowing that everyone else involved in the conversation is a person who isn't particularly bothered by sexual harassment and objectification of women. I think that should give anyone remaining a cause for concern, truthfully. Consider who you're associating with.

Having someone join you naked in a shower without consent is sexual assault period. The fact that they had consensual sex later does not negate that fact. No one will know the truth but it is concerning. I don’t think NeoGAF will survive this without a change at the top.

Well I'm out of here. Ten years, jeez (didn't realise how long it had been until I remembered reading threads for the last few seasons of Lost on here). Apparently I still average 2 posts a day, which seems crazy, especially as I've mostly lurked recently.

Always thought Evilore came across as an egotistical jerk but didn't realise how much of a low life he was :/

- UK PoliGAF (Not having the GAF thread open during election nights is going to be weird, I've never been through an election without it)

- That guy whose name I've forgotten with the unhealthy obsession for Natalie Portman. EL banned him for using Adblock, I've been using it on GAF ever since.
- Blame Space, genuinely one of the funniest shit posters on the web

Hopefully resetera is good, will probably lurk for a bit to see how things shake out though.

I really wish ResetEra had a better name >_> Not only is it unappealing in its own right, but it's also contest reminder of this specific event and EviLore which I really don't need if/when GAF is behind us.

But I live on OT so this I'm not gonna have much use from standard GAF, I need my Dragon Ball OT.

There's no way to separate politics from every discussion. I'm sorry, but there's just no way to do it. Not unless you want bland, PR filled astroturf advertisement threads as every major OP.

And good luck getting indie devs, corporate community outreach, journalists and major industry people to post on this place as much as they did, after what happened. Something that made GAF special.

And now some goodbyes

To Smash speculation GAF - You were the first community on GAF I ever really got attached to. It's actually pretty cruel that the ability to use GCN controllers on the switch was only found today. It might have re-lit the old fire. But anyway, thanks for the laughs, and memories. And if K Rool is added to Smash, I expect Gonzo to be unbanned, as per the original agreement.

To Binding of Isaac GAF - You guys might not have been the most active, but I enjoyed talking about the game. It's kind of a shame Nicalis showed their true colors over the weekend and were celebrating the death of GAF. It won't stop me from playing the game, it's just super disappointing.

Poke-GAF - Tons of fun in WatchDaBirdie's threads. I hope he shows up somewhere and we can go right back to arguing over what moves make sense on what Pokemon, what type matchups are nonsense, and other fun stuff.

And Poligaf. Oh Poligaf. Where to start with you guys. You were the most active thread I've ever been on GAF. I love talking with you guys, arguing with you guys, and just chatting. Even if it seemed like I was teasing some people a lot, I still thought you guys added to the thread. I realize literally nobody from that thread will read this post, ad they all got banned a day ago, but still. I wouldn't have expected them to tolerate this entire thing, as I certainly am not. I'll catch you guys somewhere else, I doubt the group is separated forever. Maybe cars will be banned someday.

Not being snarky, but why is it down again? It seems to me that it would be more constructive to keep the OT as an outlet for people to have other discussions, because everything else is bleeding into Gaming anyway. People will have these conversations whether the OT is up or not.

  • Pseudo-feminist men who know what's best for all women at all times but can't stop jerking themselves off long enough to listen to any woman's actual opinion even when offered in every single goddamned thread
  • Coddled pedophiles who know this is a place they can win arguments and avoid bans by peppering barely comprehensible apologism with copying and pasting all the cultural literacy and anthropology that 20 seconds on Wikipedia can yield
  • People who think free speech means every opinion, no matter how ignorant or devoid of evidence or nuance, must be of equivalent value by default and that having an inalienable right to be an uninformed asshole means there's an obligation to be one
  • People who think calling out the difference in value of two opinions means you're in favor of censorship, ironically enough from one of their 4 alt accounts
  • Embarrassing diatribes discussing how someone knows what it's like to be someone they aren't, and when anyone recommends they listen rather than continue talking out of their ass, they respond with a tantrum about McCarthyism
  • Apologist apologists apologizing for apologizing for apologists apologizing and unapologetic apologists apologizing for apologetic apologists
  • Longwinded, pointless bullet lists written seemingly unironically by self-important blowhards
Having said that, this forum didn't deserve to get upended in the way it has, but this situation is just sort of a culmination of everything just under the surface, and an opening of the flood gates for those who have felt bottled up for a long time. Certainly GAF earned its reputation as a safe space and bastion of progressivism, but to think it was watertight is to ignore the subtext that's littered it.

I'd like to applaud the mods who left, but to some extent I question why they stuck around as long as they did when Malka's behavior has been an open secret for years. His childish tantrums and misogyny have been obvious in nearly every single thread that mysteriously disappears and account permanently deleted. All of these images being posted in this thread of evidence of his behavior is ancient history for a lot of us. I'm frankly disappointed this of all things was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.

I look forward to finding out that he's back to modding Mazda's in his Mom's basement once the ad revenue tanks. He doesn't have much choice but to allow the GGers to flood the place now, but if he thinks they are doing anything but hate-posting schadenfreude with ad-block on, he's nuts.

I'm sad for this situation, although I don't post much; I use GAF mainly for checking news quickly, also lurking some of the gaming communities, and sharing some of my game experiences. It won't be the same.

I spent my whole day reading through this thread. Curiousity mainly, to see what long time gaffers had to say, regular posters, peoples whose stuff ive read and enjoyed.

But aside from a small few i barely recognise any of the names in this thread. NeoGaf truly does seem dead. 94 pages of depressing nonsense from people that seemingly hated the forum and grabbing this chance to piss on it with both hands.

Its a shame this happened as Gaf is where i spent almost evrry free minute. Be it down time at work, sitting on the toilet or waiting for the bus. But seeing how much hateful resentment so many seemed to have for the place, i think it really needed to fall.

Hopefully something truly better can come out of it.
