As a person who has been here since 2010 I feel like I am learning in this thread and wish to have something clarified.

In 7 years I have 1,787 posts for an average of 0.65 posts per day. Does this make my opinion less valid?

If so, I’ve learned that in the most recent Brave EXVIUS thread I was a top poster. Does this make my posts about that game one of the best?

I’m experiencing conflicting views and not sure how it works.

Thanks guys!

Sure why not. You're not a junior with a handful of posts.

There's nothing wrong with being a 'junior.'
There's nothing wrong with being a lurker.
There's nothing wrong with being an active poster who shares their opinion every day in every thread.

Without juniors and lurkers, we'd all be talking to ourselves, this forum would have never gotten a fraction of the posts its gotten. We'd be bloviating at the dark expanse of the internet.

I think GAF has entered its death spiral TBH.

With many of the most active members quitting, there won't be as much content fuelling the community (already looks half dead today). Younger generations generally spend their time on social media instead of crusty old forums these days too, so new sign-ups will likely decrease with time. Plus, with the ban on social and political discussion, there's less diversity of discussion now which will see members who took part in that drift away.

GAF is past its prime, and I feel it's just going get worse and worse here in future. It already didn't seem as busy lately as it has been in the 11 years I've spent here.

why do you guys overreact when someone calls out something you say as racist/sexist/homophobic

it doesn't mean you're a demon.

just that something you said is problematic

you shouldn't interpret it as a mark against your character. no one is perfect

Don’t be silly. Everyone here has to be correct and unified as one otherwise the whole system falls apar... oh nevermind.

No, you are a lurker and you are not upholding your duty to post more than once a day. Ergo, your opinion is invalid.

My opinion is invalid, too

I'm at 3.4 posts per day, so I'm in the clear, yay.

Anyway, it's funny that some users think that the opinion of people with not a lot of posts per day or in general is worth less than those of more active members. One quality post is way more worthwhile than ten awful posts. And that is what matters.

The biggest irony in all this is they say they're doing this because the forum has become toxic, yet they're the ones making the forum toxic.

The worst thing is some of them are then trying to entice people to join them on another forum....

This cannot be said enough. A lot of this people, the most active, the most invested, were the ones that discouraged me the most from posting in threads that were "controversial."

If we are talking about the state or future of Neogaf I'm not going to take what a junior's opinion over a long term member.

Especially since there seems to be a flood of alts/junior coming out the woodwork now that they can "say how they really feel".

Given that the average word count per post is 5.7 I couldn’t agree more. But then again I’m a junior, and have been for years.

Sorry, you're too smart and reasonable for this place

To clarify further, if I typed the same stuff I do now, but am still a junior, it’s instantly of less worth?

Thank you. I think I almost have it figured out.

If you've a handful of posts yeah worth a hell of a lot less, at this time.

In normal times I've no beef with Juniors.

Probably not, but if you had an anime avatar then your opinion would be invalidated. Since your avatar is Walter White, you're fine.

This place is never going to the the same, or even close to what is was before Saturday. I've PMd a (the only?) mod and asked if there is a way to delete my account. If not, then hopefully I'll see some of you guys elsewhere on the internet. It's been a fun and educational five-plus years. I will miss the OT quite a bit. I hope Malka learns something from all this, and that victims of abuse continue to feel safe enough to share.

Hahaha, that's a good one! This place is becoming more and more rational by the day without them. I'll pass on their little echo chamber.

Exactly, some posters are trying to diminish people’s opnion based on contribution, years of service and etc. let’s hear everyone’s opnions.

Thanks guys!

I also rarely post but whatever. I find most topics dominated by a minority of voices so a lurker like me has a diminished say. Hopefully things straighten up around here after the suicides and trolls finish
or I actually get into Reset Era.

Also .24 a day!

I would understand the freakout if this was a cult of personality forum for EviLore, but I don't recall that ever being the case in the years I've used this site. Everyone used the site just fine over the years when everyone apparently knew the deal with him. It's really hard for some to come to grips with new revelations when they are that problematic. Being reasonable and patient are rare traits these days.

I don't know about links being banned in PM's. Possible theres a word in the link thats blacklisted, not sure.

Anyway, there are sites out there that are reporting staff are reading their PM's and banning them for things they sent/received etc. vBulletin does NOT let any user read another users PM. You'd have to either login as that user, or have direct access to the database.

I'm fully supportive of their desire to create a new forum. You all seem to be painting them as freaking out over EvilLore, when the majority of people are pissed off with how EvilLore has handled all of this. He was fine with politics and womens rights until he became part of the conversation. He didn't manage the situation at all and when threads were opened asking him of this, he just shut the whole site down.

Now instead of actually refuting what happened, he's removed OT and banned all Political and social threads, then blamed OT for all of this.

How many on the staff have direct access to the database? Just Evilore? How many are on the staff in general now anyway, out of interest? Is the mod team back up to full strength?

That's a good way of putting it, +1 to the bolded. +0.9 to everything else.

Lol yeah, been seeing a lot of this mentality... it’s pretty toxic because it shuts down conversations as they try to validate someone’s opnion.

I honestly don't remember. And I don't have the time to dig into that abyss. What I do know is that I stayed as far away as I could, and avoid engaging due to fear of being called out for stating any opinion. Even if it was something "left leaning" you could get called out for not being "progressive" enough.

A lot of OT threads had a reputation for being places to be avoided if you wanted to continue posting on this forum long term.

Not sure when and where I gained member status if I could be completely honest. Never really put any stock into the title.

I just wanted to clarify something. I think it's ridiculous that when debating as a junior member, some folks will take the easy way out and ridicule the junior member status. I wasn't sure how I came across.

How cute. The idea that NeoGAF hasn't been at ALL about labeling, denigrating, and dismissing out of hand, with yes indeed, a holier-than-thou attitude, an entire segment of users here, simply because they disagreed with certain positions or ideas they had, is just laughably inane. That you would try now to paint yourself the victim of someone with *haha* "gamergate ways" is pathetic.

NeoGAF has indeed been a protected safe haven for people with specific political/social agendas. That someone would send you off to a new "safe haven" for those of your apparent worldview/mindset is hardly surprising, especially given that at least one major NeoGAF alternative has already specifically stated that they are making sure that those with opposing viewpoints are being filtered out.
Holy shit, that is nuts. Some of these people would be scary if they were actual leaders. They are authoritarians without the power. Very mentally weak individuals.
Opposing viewpoints as in homophobic, racist, sexist yadda yadda you know the same rules that used to apply here.

Conversation is moving pretty fast and a lot has been discussed since I last looked at the thread, so I may have missed it, but has the subject of "subs to off topic threads vanishing" come up at all? I got on last night and was glad to see Off Topic Community was back but then dismayed to see that all of my subscriptions that weren't to a Gaming-side thread were gone. I mean, it's not like my subscriptions were the only thing keeping me in check and I would have been a virulent asshole who got banned every other week without them or anything, but the thought that a ban meant I would lose my subs was something that made me try a little extra hard to avoid bans, maybe rethink or reword some things I wanted to say at times or back out of a discussion before I got too upset over it.

Are they gone for good? Just a temp thing that went wrong while Off Topic is disabled but Off Topic Community is up? Something unintended that didn't happen to anyone else?

Yeah, those rules were often stretched to include things that shouldn't have been. You don't get the universal level of resentment aimed at GAF from just GG types that can't be openly terrible.
