I have an honest question. What I thought would happen when this was blacked out was that Evilore would give the chains to someone else and the site could go on as nornal. Why did t this happen? Does he get paid from this forum or something?

On the other hand i should probably be happy they are here and not on era then. Malka's statement was a disgrace and him re-opening the forum and off topic is a disgrace to the community that regarded gaf as their home.

Just been belatedly catching up on all this and the statement in the OP. The manner this has been dealt with makes me feel sad, angry and absolutely uncomfortable being connected to this site anymore.
Only posting this for a little closure. Sounds silly or whatever but I lurked for a long time before getting membership here and went on to have a lot of enriching, interesting and fun times as part of this community. I know plenty of good people will choose to stick around and have their reasons, too.
But yeah, I'm out, thanks for the memories.

I have a query regarding paid email. Will it be acceptable to buy a random .com domain and link an email address to that? Or does the email domain have to be linked to a specific organisation? I don't have an ISP email address or anything similar anymore so I'm just wondering what my options are.

As probably many of the forum members I was taken aback over the weekend by NeoGAF being taken down. I'm not a frequent poster but this website was a home for most of my gaming and even non-gaming news for a while so it was quite a shock when it all went down overnight.
And then the allegations came. The moderators quitting. The community splitting and creating their own forums and websites.
Oh God.
Evilore you screwed up bad. There were two choices here: immediately deny everything if allegations are false or step away from the website to preserve the community if they are true. You did neither of these things. It took you three days to write a message which makes it pretty clear that you're not innocent. This is not a behaviour of an innocent person. Your continuous ownership and involvement in this forum will always be a stain for everyone involved and while this site will linger on you put your own interests over the community.
I don't know why Evilore even bothered to write up this non-apology or non-statement. It's barren, soulless and almost insulting in its neglect of underlying subject matters.
If you really wanted to have a state of the forum thread this is what should have been posted:
- No self-respecting industry insider or developer will come to this website ever again.
- Most of the community members who contributed a lot to this forum will not come to this website ever again.
- NeoGAFwill never wield the same respect and recognition as it used to just weeks ago as long as it's associated with Evilore.
You can keep participating and talking here and that shouldn't automatically flag you as a bad person or a sexual-assault-supporter, but this forum will never truly recover.

Reset era is what should have happened to neogaf with this Lore dude giving up the reins to others. Can't in good conscience continue to support site (it's about all the accumulated stuff I found out about this dude). Really hope to join Resetera soon once registration begins and wish everyone here the best!

I'll not be staying much longer. I'm merely biding my time until public registration opens.
I'm just trying to remain calm and refrain from posting anything that'll end in my banning from here. I see no reason to trash a perfectly good account for the sake of a parting shot.
I think at this point it's safe to say NeoGAF is beyond recovery. The allegations were bad enough, but Evilore screwed this up every step of the way after that causing all of the mods and user base to leave. The great posters that made this community fun have already left for greener pastures. In their place are junior members calling people SJW cucks, declaring war on other forums, and other extremely hostile shitty behavior. This is the new NeoGAF.
It says a lot about this place that even the mods don't feel safe here anymore and have to be anonymous or use alt-accounts like "$30 italian meal," because it's such a toxic atmosphere here.
Getting rid of the Off Topic forum was an especially boneheaded move. Instead of preserving ~15 years of history they're pushing this idea of a "clean slate" but if members want a true clean slate it's easier to just start fresh at the brand new forum. Even if you're one of the people putting their heads in the sand and saying "I just wanna talk about video games" it's clear that gaming discussion has greatly suffered by the mass exodus.

I'm just glad that most of the community has chosen to stick together and move to Reset rather than becoming too splintered. Would appreciate an invite to Discord.
