Well we know what's going up on Monday now.

Yakuza 7 playing on Xbox Series X Gameplay

****WHOOPS, IGN Deleted it hahaha

Was their something wrong with it? I'm guessing they probably broke an NDA by accident or something similar.

I believe it has no RT so far. Didn't find signs of it. Especially here:

Well it was confirmed to have it. Maybe it will at release?

Damn it. Just got time to catch up on today's information. Some thoughts:

PS4 BC: Sounds very good. Having over 99% of the library playable is fantastic right out of the box. Boost Mode sounds upgraded, yet similar to PS4 Pro. I fully expect many games to have patches, much like the PS4 Pro did. I'm hoping Overwatch is one of them, as I've been itching to return. Division 2 as well.

I don't see it being super beneficial for all games, but 99% playable with improved stability or enhanced resolution is a net positive. Worth noting that even the PS4 Pro benefitted from an SSD, so I think you'll see a result there.

Tom Warren: What a shill. You are *really* going to take jabs at a stand? Stands have been in existence since the PS2 era. So you have to utilize a screwdriver to remove it and change positions. Who cares? Does a square box make for superiority?

Then you make bold claims about Microsoft's "more powerful box". A nice claim with a modicum of truth, if your focus is on Teraflops and CPU speed.

But did you factor in PS5's superior SSD architecture? What about the DRAM cache? Tempest Engine capabilities? Liquid Metal cooling? How about WiFi 6?

These are equalizing factors and must be thought about. Did he?

Chances are he did not--choosing instead to let his bias be known by making a generalized statement. This was replete with deriding via facetious comments or blocking those who call him out on said prejudice.

Not to bring other venues into this discussion, but his behavior is EXACTLY why journalists(and the media itself) are so heavily scrutinized today.

When you've made no attempt to remain impartial and incorporate all information into your commentary for fair assessments, can you really be trusted with factual delivery?

On a tangential note, Sony hasn't once(that I've seen) fired off an uncouth tweet like Xbox UK did. Sony burned MS back in 2013 because it was DESERVED. I haven't seen anything these days other than vengefulness.

And done.

yep. even if it needs a patch, the patch will be as simple as adding a toggle to detect it at the OS level. It wont be a full patch that requires devs to test and implement a 60 fps option. just add support to detect boost mode and let that do its thing.

i wonder if this means Cyberpunk will run at 60 fps in boost mode. crazy.
On day 1, this just means games with uncapped frame rates or inconsistent frame rates, or that use dynamic resolution, or are coded to scale the res up with power, will benefit. Ghost was clearly coded for PS5 in mind, because on PS4 Pro it already has a performance mode but thats still only 30 FPS, seems obvious thats for the PS5 60 FPS option.

God of War on PS4 Pro is 1080p with uncapped frame rate. Thats my day 1 test. It dips from 60 to around 45 FPS on PS4 Pro, I bet on PS5 it can hit that 60 target almost all the time. Will still be 1080p tho, unless they patch it. Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn will not benefit unless patched. They are hard capped at 30 FPS and have set resolutions. Bloodborne should be more stable, but has engine issues with bad frame pacing so that can only be fixed by the devs or a remaster (please Bluepoint.)

Digital Foundry did a video on this and seem to have made some correct assumptions about how the boost works.

I'm pretty sure the console itself will function without the stand in both a vertical and horizontal position. However like you said it could be a way to ensure that the cooling isn't messed up in either position.

Pretty sure some people are going to show the console running without a stand.

That's going to be some ugly pictures. The things not flat, it needs the stand so it is level (you don't want wobble when it is on). The stand looks fine and I'm sure most will choose the orientation they want and just stick with that for the generation.

The PS5 stand clips onto the white plate when horizontal, so if one lifts the PS5 up and places it back down, the stand stays attached.

When the PS5 is vertical, the stand can't clip onto the PS5, so it needs the screw to remain attached even if the users picks up the PS5 and moves it, then places it back down.

As someone who used the Nintendo Wii with the stand vertically, it was annoying. The console just sat in the stand loose and so if I picked up the console, it didn't move the stand. Wish it had screwed in place into the console.

While vertical, did it look like the clips go into the bottom vent? I think it was hard to see in the teardown, not sure.

The other thread was closed, so I never had the chance to respond to all those who quoted me below. I'm going to respond in this thread instead. I wasn't able to multi-quote you and had to do it manually. Do I don't know if this will notify any of you. But at least I tried. Also, I refuse all those responses with indirect accusations. Not responding to you and staying means means I accept your wrong accusations, and I won't accept. You're all too engulfed with this FUD thing that it clouds your judgement of who's really concerned and who isn't. Not every damn thing is FUD. Not every fan who you see liking the PS brand means they're trolling, concern trolling or spreading FUD. Now onto my responses:

If you're truly concerned about build quality, thats fine. This is a games console and nobody is going to take you hostage until you agree to buy one.

But don't justify that concern with out of context quotes from people who say there's nothing to be concerned about. That's the difference between someone who is worried about a console and then what you're doing.

Tom Warren put it best. These things wouldn't be out in the world if Microsoft had anything to hide.
And what am I doing pray tell? I watched the video and quoted the guy word for word. And you quoting Tom Warren of all people is confirming what exactly? He's not the most reliable of sources.

Hix said:
He's holding the SSD, the entire discussion was about the SSD and continues to be about the SSD thereafter. He even confirmed this himself on Twitter;

If you are concerned with a story you read saying the 1TB expansion drive "appeared to burn my hand!!" you are of course perfectly welcome to watch the full Beastcast sequence starting here: https://youtu.be/GAFOZWz1S-o?t=1614… Hot to the touch, yes, but clearly did not *burn my hand*
Literally everyone, including Giantbomb Jeff who you are holding to, says there are no issues.

Heat dissipation is normal and by design, saying otherwise is just spreading FUD.
Nope. What you quoted there is only the part about the SSD. When he said "The entire thing" he's talking about the console, whether you like it or not.

Endless Fluff said:
It's not just the One X that does it, my Pro also blows out heat when it downloads shit in stand-by, the console gets warm while doing "nothing". It's normal. The expandable storage being hot is also normal, they (NVME drives) operate at very high temps. PS4 Pro and One X blow hair dryer levels of heat out back (above 60°C), are you worried about your current console?

There is no reason to be concerned about anything here... and even if, even IF Series X would run too hot (which I doubt), it's nothing a little firmware update couldn't fix. MS could simply increase the fan curve a little bit.

This whole thread is FUD, as fanboys like to call it. It's the same FUD as "PS5 is a 9TF machine because Cerny said the GPU down clocks under heavy load!!!".
My Pro is always trying to take off, but I never checked the heat at the back of it. It's just when it goes loud I assume it's getting pretty hot and that's why the fans are loud. As for my One X, let's say 99.99999% of the time it's quiet, apart from that one time where I heard the fans kick in. I ignored it for a while because I didn't think it was the One X, since it never happened before. But 5-10 minutes in I looked at it again and got concerned. So I went to see if it really is the one making that noise, and it was. I put my hand on it and on the back and it was HOT. I was surprised to see that as it never ran that hot. Then I noticed it had no breathing space to dissipate all that heat it's exhausting. I have a piece of cloth on my entertainment unit that covers it, and I lift it when I'm playing so the consoles can have enough air to get rid of heat. So basically my One X was bathing in hot air at the time and therefore it got hot and the fans kicked in. Once I lifted the cloth, it went back to normal, and the extra heat went away. So when I heard the guy from the podcast say the console was toasty, the first thing I thought of was this incident I had. I do not want the console being this hot all the time!

If you want to be concerned by misquoting some dude that at the same time is literally telling you that there isn't a problem, then that's entirely on you.
If you want to call quoting someone word for word talking about the console and NOT the SSD, "concerned by misquoting someone", that's entirely on you, really. I'm being nothing but 100% honest.

Redlight said:
Concern should be supported by evidence, not FUD. The overwhelming evidence is that there is no problem. Even from the very guy you're trying to use to justify your 'concern'.

Those that choose to be concerned despite the evidence, well, who knows what that's about. Preorder or not.
Evidence has been provided, word for word. You're just choosing not to like it.

The guy spoke about 2 things being hot, the SSD and the console. "The entire thing" was in reference to the console, not the SSD.

Yeah it was an interesting bit for sure. I think all in all while it's nice to have a large drive for storage, it's best to stay away from the mechanical drives moving forward. I believe both PS5 and Series X have 3.2 Gen 2 USB ports?

I'm going to use the Samsung T7 mainly for cold storage. Deciding whether if it will be for PS5 or Series X and buy another or something better down the road. I have a 2TB WD Passport drive for my PS4 Pro. I'm curious to see how slow it is when I copy the data over to PS5.

So given the ports on the PS5, am I right in assuming that any external USB drive that connects with a USB-A connector (USB 3.0 hopefully for speed) will work? I'm not seeing that the USB-C connection on the PS5 can be used for that, am I right? Trying to figure out what new external drive to buy to use for PS4 game storage and such.

Yeah, any drive with USB capabilities will work. For my T7, they actually come with a USB-C to C cable and a C to Type A cable.

I don't see why a USB-C External drive wouldn't work on the PS5. It's just going to be a bit funny looking having the cable coming from the front and then having your external drive on the side or in back of the Console. Looking like an umbilical cord.

As it looks now, the PS5 DualSense would charge via the USB-C port in front. That doesn't seem to be talked about much.

Xbox were hyping up back compat. Yet PS comes out with confirmation 98% working games first. Whats going on here?

I saw a FUD thread complaining about PS4 games not getting enhance for PS5.

What developer is going to enhance a 6-7 year old game with new textures and assets?
Is Sony supposed to do that? Maybe for more recent exclusives, but not 4000+ games.
You now how long it would take just to test them.

People really needs to stop with the unnecessary complaining, just like with the PS5 stand that you can unscrew with a QUARTER.

About Ray Tracing
Joris Four (Product Manager): I think I speak for all of us when I say Raytracing. It will really bring the immersion to another level.
We will absolutely support ray tracing, it is part of our roadmap for the Realm Beyond. We will take our time to implement it on PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series S / X and PC in order to avoid negative impacts on the gameplay and balancing.

About the XSS
Joris Four: At launch, we aim to have the game running with the best framerate possible in order to have the smoothest experience. For now, it’ll be 1080p, but we will keep investigating how to raise it to 1440p.

About PS5
Finally, we also asked whether Dead by Daylight would support unique PlayStation 5 features such as the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers or the Tempest 3D AudioTech. Unfortunately, these features won't be there when the next-gen patch hits.
Joris Four: This is not something we will bring to players at launch. Our goal was to be ready for the launch window of the consoles, and in order to achieve this, we had to prioritize features.
