15 hours in and this game might end up being one of my favorite games of all time already. I loved 2018, but GOWR so far has been a transcendent experience for me.

That feeling of you playing a game like this without knowing much about it or getting spoiled is priceless. The game is just close to perfection so far, story, characters, gameplay, va, pacing, etc.
Well said and couldnt agree more.

No exaggeration when i say its been quite a long time since I couldnt wait to get home to continue this story, or stayed up late tired as f because i cant put it down.

The excitement is next level.

Ok, am I alone in wanting a more open world in the next game with the doggo sled back for traversal instead of that damned boat with the kind of open but mostly closed off world? Also, a proper jump button. Those two things would make for an amazing sequel for me.

I'm kind of with you there but if the Gods answer my prayers and give us an Egyptian arc we'll be riding camels across vast deserts instead 🐫🙏🏻

Kratos in this game is sublime as a character. The perfect combination of stern, patient, with agency but also constrained. Christopher Judge is giving the performance of a life time… and then there’s Atreus. Meh

The world is so well crafted I wish we could explore it. When games start taking the Elden Ring approach to hands off exploration in wel crafted worlds we really are going to be in a golden age of the open genre. I hope many marquee franchises like this goes in that direction.

The amount of family dramas in this game is just... damn.

First game had just one, between atreus and kratos and maybe with freya and baldur, a little and at the very end.

But in this one;

Brothers sisters fathers and mothers and sons... it really just doesnt end.

Other than that, 16 hours in and its so fun that time flies.
Mythology in a nutshell. Husband brothers fighting their nephew sons over the love of their sister mother wives affection.

The whole Ironwood part with Atreus was so painful to play. Truly shocking stuff. Legit hours way longer than it should have been.

Here now. Damn thinking it would be a short sweet segment. Thanks for the warning.

I'd say it was 3-4 hours in total for me and not a good amount of hours either. It all could have easily been done in 30mins.

…wat? That segment should only take about 1-2 hours at most. How did you double that? And I was playing on Give Me God of War difficulty XD

But agreed. The worst part of the game by far and easily the worst written. Seems to be a trend in this game though as, while there are moments of great writing, it really feels like some CW play of God of War Ragnarok rather than the actual GoW Ragnarok we all were hoping for.

Should have the game beaten by tomorrow. Just finished the part where
I went back to Vanaheim for the second time in the story
and completed most of the realms near 100% or 100% entirely. Don’t think there is that much left. But man this game feels really bloated. I feel they could have cut half of this stuff out or even 3/4ths and it would be all the better for it.

The game just threw a barrage of side content at me. It was all quality stuff but maaaan I was goofing off for hours without doing any main story stuff. Kinda itching to get back to that now.

My first day off since it came out and I’ve been hitting it hard to say the least lol. Straight degenerate right now

I just played fifteen hours straight and lost track of time.

Just finished the main story. Going to take a break before jumping back in to clean up all the side quest and trophies.

The end definitely sets up possible spin off games and DLC in the future which is great.

Yeah I'll have to agree with you there. It was very badly written and the constant back and forth between each side of the camp was very annoying. The automatic forced love interest between the 2 was just strange.

By far my biggest gripe with the game is that the stream of new skills items power ups is so shockingly low to me. There's like 2 separate times I've been at a blacksmith in 2 different places where there was nothing I could do. I couldn't upgrade my armour I couldn't craft anything good. And what makes it worse then is out in the world the stuff you find is mostly crafting materials from chests which I then can't even use. I still haven't gotten a heavy rune for Kratos. Most of the light runes I have if not all are all from the last God of War game.

I'm 10-12 hours in and so far Kratos has nothing even remotely new to use in combat.

The section with
Angbroda
was boring as shit. Felt like something straight from Uncharted. Long and boring walking sections. Too much climbing ledges. Boosting your partner. Slow as hell. I hope they never do that again. This doesn`t belong in GOW. Keep that garbage in Naughty Dog`s court.

Also, definitely not 3-4 hours. More like 60-90 minutes depending on how many times you die.

You are further along than me and I've upgraded weapons and armor two or three times at least. You still have the same base armor and weapons?

I don't wanna spoil too much but I'll say besides maybe getting a few pieces of armour that isn't better than what I have equipped and that armour takes certain rare materials to upgrade I've seen virtually nothing new in terms of combat since the start of the game. 95% of the things I've gotten were in the last God of War game. There is just nothing new for Kratos at all so far. Stuff I'm unlocking now this far in the game was stuff you get in the last game I just cannot wrap my head around it.

Hmmm, ok. Seems like there must be more stuff coming because there are things you can't do with the current equipment that you'll have to do later.

Yeah but that is it's own set of problems for me. For just the combat itself it's been the same since the start of the game for Kratos almost. A new God of War game to me is new weapons new abilities and that. Just think of all the weapons, magic, items and relics you had in God of War 3.

For God of War 2018 I let it slide for only having 2 weapons and spartan rage being your main set for combat but in the sequel to that there's still nothing new. Light & Heavy runes can barely get a mention because they're on a cooldown and are barely used in a fight. There should have been a new weapon out the gate with this game.

I really hated the IW section. Can’t believe it made it in the game at the length it did as it had outstayed its welcome after about 10 minutes. The first section like this was also too long with combat for the sake of combat but it was mercifully short in comparison to this at least.

Definitely one of those sections where you think about replaying a game but nope out and the kind of thing where people would be after mods to skip it on PC.

All of the busywork should have been optional and then give out a trophy for doing it once so everyone get to experience the melodrama but it’s not forced on a replay.

28 hours in and still see new enemy type showed up lmao. I asked around and i think i'm at 2/3 game.
I love every realm except Alfheim. Alfheim looks kind of boring compare to other realms.

So I'm stuck in this library and a boss won't let me out. It's beating the shit out of me and the game is bugged and I can't reduce the difficulty. Guess my game ends here.

I knew you were going to write that kind of post as soon as I saw you got the game. I was going to say something but I kept quiet and here you go. 100% predictable and your little jabs against Sony too 🤣

Ill place money I did more in 2018 and every god of war ever released than you. Show me your trophy lists and Ill show you mine plus even my Kratos action figure. lol

You lot are insecure over any negative comment, its funny.

Prove me wrong that I am not a huge fan of this series!

Also, I am a green rat and proud of it, just like you're a blue beaver. Doesnt mean I am not more neutral than others and owned every single Sony system day one...all the way from the PS1

Plus lol I am only a few hours in. I feel like its just throwing stuff, upgrades, perks, gear. Once I get in the swing and it picks up and opens up I may completely fall in love with it and I really want to.

Try to not spam attacks, wait for the yellow attacks to parry. It might take longer this way but you can do it. I also died a few times until I played more passive and you also learn the patterns. Don't give up.

I love that its basically an interactive movie, a walking simulator, its hard to get lost, the puzzles are not too tough, can just enjoy the ride. The game does spoon feed you a bit much but hey it saves me time so cant complain. Makes me remember how much these days I hate open world games and endless time sink activities that feel pointless.

NGL the gameplay loop of story, enemy wave, puzzle, story rinse and repeat got a bit tiresome for me but thankfully the story was great.

Not sure how I feel spending all the XP and skills on Atreus and at the end it seems to be for nothing as he just goes away.

I must be deaf because other than some ultra generic hints, they never spelled the solution to me in the puzzles i had to solve, maybe i was distracted trying to figured out on my own that i didn't even listen to what they were saying.
They do at the start but then it’s toned down. Wonder if it’s dynamic.

I’m only like 7 hours in and i’m a bit tired of it in all honesty. Thinking of maybe not bothering with the side content until I finish the main story as it certainly isn’t helping.

Dunno how far you are but the side content would probably be even more boring since you'll be overleveled and the challenge pretty much gone save for the end game/post game stuff.

Opening up now and I'm starting to really enjoy it. This is the god of war I remember from 2018. Too many hints but the rest is going goooood

Another reason this would have been better, if designed for PS5, is the enemies wouldn’t have to disappear when they die.

Disintegrating bodies as opposed to a pile of corpses, when you’re playing “God of War” is weak. I’m not bloodthirsty but it’d be much more appropriate. Furthermore, disappearing bodies just screams “we are out of processing power” and helps to break immersion.

And yeah, the more I play, I can’t believe how many crevices there are to squeeze through. It’s obnoxious and it dates the game, even today.

That said, I feel like I’m doing a little less backtracking this time than in the last game, which I appreciate. I don’t always mind worlds with backtracking, but it became a chore in 2018 with how much loading there was.

There is still way too much walking, loading, and stalling in this game, and it’s not going to be very re-playable. Really wish this was a more seamless experience.

I’ve been really appreciating the new enemy types though. Some really cool mini-boss battles so far. They look great, the move sets are interesting. They feel suitably epic even without resorting to quicktime events.

Yeah just saw some stuff I didn’t need to see. Avoiding the thread for now.
I don't get it either, also some people put spoilers without tags on, like how do I know what's in there as in midgame, endgame or is it something else entirely if you know what I mean. Not clicking those.

Edit: Also GymWolf GymWolf , maybe it's a bug (hints from companions)? I sometimes was trying to solve something for a couple minutes without hearing anything from my companions.
Other times they just said like, look here and I am like, where, look where? lol
They never spoiled a puzzle for me, must have been lucky and I am trying to listen to everything they say.

I hate disappearing bodies but with all the headroom they have cpu\gpu wise, i think it is more an artistic choice than a power one.

It's just a scrawny wooden village?
Like... that's it ?!

I hope the outer part is what death stranding 2 is with open world.

My god, that was fantastic
