Finally a sequel to the most infuriating game of all time...

Whilst hilarious, this actually shows the similarity between the "crouched run" animation from the GZ trailer. It's definitely FOX Engine.

I dont even understand how you guys could think that was Vita footage....i mean come on now.

Vita is powerful, even now when developers are not fully using every piece of the system. Here is fully open world and fully featured Assassins Creed game on it! Madness!

The Phantom Pain looked better, but then again it was set in a closed enviroment and was using Kojima's superior art direction.

Calling Liberations fully featured is a bit of a stretch.

And no way is this Vita footage. Vita is powerful, but it can't pull off PS3/360 level graphics.

Was that the Sorrow flying out of the frame right at the end?

And what does that woman with the Sniper Wolf-esque voice say? "V has come to?" has in Metal Gear Solid V? Or is it just a weird pronunciation of "He has come to?"

You guys must have some pretty low standards for next-gen, considering this was the most dated looking game graphically on the show.

Are you suggesting that Castlevania and Dark souls 2 were in game graphics?

I think you have been spoiled by all the CG cut scenes everywhere, name one game that looks this good during gameplay that is not TLOU.

I can see this being next gen or current gen, it definetly looks good enough for next gen, especially considering early games never look as good as later games.

DS2 was all GCI. And comparing this game to a PS3 game like TLOS only makes it even more underwhelming.

You must have missed the Bioshock Infinite gameplay.

BioShock looked unfinished and struggled to run on whatever it was supposed to be running on, but even it moved on from plastic character models, bland textures, and octagonal clothes.

looks they planned this a long time ago.

(i was kidding btw)

Also, this looked crazy good, but still very much Ps360 realm. Vita lol, but PS360 definitely.
Lighting is amazing, shaders and characters models are impressive, but models themselves are rather low poly, textures and shadow resolution are nothing special and so on.
Exactly like ground zeroes trailer, it's clearly running on the same engine (it's probably the same game too :p).

Btw everything looked cutscene material, not sure any of that was ingame.

It can't be really representative of Ground Zeroes though, since Big Boss never lost his left arm, and Psycho Mantis should be a toddler at the time of GZ.

this here is a great point, how can that be Psycho Mantis?

probably still running on PC atm...

Crysis 1? The Witcher 2? Hitman:Absolution?

I'll just go with Crysis.

Joakim MOGREn : this is project Ogre.
Taboo project because Kojima is moving to a new Western studio where he is the CEO.

Yup.

Great argument. Here's mine:

If you showed a person who doesn't know any of the two games footage from TLOU (a PS3 game) and Phantom Pain (a 'next-gen') game together:

Said person might not even even entertain the idea that they were from different generations, let alone thinking the latter was supposed to be a game that came after the first one.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Oh shut up Willy, don't threadshit ffs. They have different styles, both games still look great on this gen hardware and early next really. Naughty Dog have the liberty of coding the PS3 to the metal, MGS is multiplatform now however.

Oh Kojima, you're so weird.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: this will be the game that shows Big Boss going crazy/getting Alzheimers or multiple personality disorder, explaining why he becomes quite an asshole in later life. That'll be the "taboo" topic Kojima was always teasing for this project.

So I didn't watch last night's show and only now I've almost caught up to this thread but I'm even more confused.

Personally, I don't know what this is, if it even is Ground Zeroes but I'm looking forward to GZ much more than a new numbered title.

Unfair comparison, TLOU is made by a team with great experience making the most out of PS3, TLOU screens showed several environments, the phantom pain is mostly in one area. TLOU has been in the making for a long time, The phantom Pain is probably early days on a new engine with a lot more potential to come.

Both sources are on bad quality streams too, so it's hard to compare.

Also one more point, a game can look REALLY bad and still come out next gen, it's not always about the graphics. There are no guarantees until it's confirmed.

Not my intention. I simply wanted to make sure we don't go overbord hyping a game that we suddenly forget how videogames have been looking already for the past six or so years.

Moby Dick Studios having a giant whale in their trailer seems fairly on the nose. And on the nose is what Kojima likes.

By comparing lush outdoors environments to those set in a hospital which have sterile lighting by design.

Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain is at the very top of what this generation can produce, and perhaps even as the gateway into the next set of boxes. Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, and 343 are probably the only other measuring sticks you can be whacking this against.

That's why it's not real.

People should really read the OP.

What's with the attitude? I did read the OP, where else would I even have heard of the studio? Nowhere in the OP does it say that the studio isn't real. No need to troll.

Unless you think it's fake simply because Joakim is an anagram for Kojima, which is just stupid.

To be honest if Sony go on record and say TLoU was running on a PS4 I would believe it, they game looks too good for current-gen but MGSV looks like an early next-gen or even current, who knows at this point.

The doctor at the start looks remarkably like Mike from Breaking Bad... Any chance he is mo capping? Seems to have the same facial features and indiosyncracies with his expressions

After so many hints and winks there are people who still think this is not Kojima or MGS related? really?

Has to be Metal Gear. I'm not totally up on my MG lore but logic and research has led me to some theories...
What if the removal of his (Boss) arm in this dream sequence is symbolic of the Patriots taking his DNA for the three clones? The feeling of having something removed (his dna) yet still feeling it's presence (the clones' existence) could be just that. Also, notice how the trailer begins with the Boss and the mystery guy in a car crash, THEN he wakes up to the doctor immediately after which would have you believe that the following events proceed the crash. My thinking is that the dream sequence starts with him seeing the hook-arm and ends with the crash which one can assume is part of the escape from the facility. When he wakes up, after an Inception-esque kick, the doctor greets him and he still has his arm. Or was all of that obvious? Either way, clever stuff, Joakim. ;)

I didn't care about the graphics, it clearly is a mutliplatform current gen release from the looks of it. It didn't look like a traditional MGS game, this could be good and a welcome addition to the MGS franchise.

I really don't see where the confusion might be, let alone all the other stuff, it's so damn obvious the running character is Snake from GZ, his face is shown clearly for something like 5 seconds, beard, hair, scar, eyes, everything is exactly the same.

Also, Kojima trolling days ago he didn't want to be remembered as the guy who made metal gear only, and now MGS5 appearing like something developed from swedish guys. It's simple as that imho.

EDIT: and if it's not I'm pretty sure Konami is going to sue their ass, lol.

I just called Jesper Hultén of jehu - design & communication (person/company that owns Moby Dick Studio's homepage) without much luck. The first phone number appears to be non-functional (or may be disabled during the weekends) and the other I got no answer on (and I even waited til it began to beep in an occupied state). I'll try again later though.

Now I know for sure that you're trolling. Of course it's related to Metal Gear Solid. I never claimed otherwise. I also never said that it isn't related to Kojima. Here's an idea: maybe you should start acting a bit more mature and drop that elitist attitude. And stop lying. The game is most definitely related to both MGS and Kojima, but that doesn't mean that the studio is fake. Most AAA games these days are being co-developed between multiple studios: some studios do more than others. For all you know, the new studio might just be doing something small like facial animations or cut-scenes; or maybe some minor gameplay element. Or it might turn out to be fake. Who knows?

NeoGAF is no forum for trolls.

I hope this isn't Big Boss. Since I know how he dies, I just kind of don't really care about the other aspects of his character anymore. :-\

Trailer looked very nice. I am assuming it is MGS related and Kojima was even there live at the show to add it in. I thought it was MGS:GZ. That looked like Snake. That mullet, animation, the body shape, the face, nose. Either that or a look-a-like with no shame at all. The style of it sort of feels, "Japanese" to me for some reason. Probably the flaming whale and some of the scenes. I never heard of Moby Dick Studios though. If Kojima is behind this, it will be amazing guaranteed.

Everyone dies.

But yeah I get what you mean, but at least they can use other peoples lives or pain etc as an element of suspense.

You clearly don't know what the word "troll" means. How is that trolling?

Well, your comparison isn't really fair because Phantom Pain looks impressive in motion too. So while you choosed to post gifs for TLOU, you just posted bad screenshots for Phantom Pain.
