Let me check. Last time I checked it was up for me but at that time everyone else was saying it was down for them.

*edit*

Yup still down. Nothing turns up and it just keeps saying search in progress. Guess MS finally killed Halo 2 for good.
Eh, that sucks. Isn't CE getting taken down too? Soon enough Halo on PC will be dead, period.
Thanks mate.

I would prefer cancer to the Needler.
Cancer jokes? ehh

Well CE isn't but could. Gamespy was bought awhile ago and they started shutting down servers. However they have said this is only for publishers that decided not to keep paying them to run them. Hence if Microsoft continues to pay them to keep them up they will. Also even if they did you could still direct connect to a server if you know it's IP address. So I'm sure someone would create a new server browser for it.

Just saw the thread about the new dlc cock-up.

Poor 343, I do feel sorry for them, another few months might have given them a chance to iron out some of issues, missing features and be better prepared for the complexity of a full release and managing these different dlc streams.
Considering they were still in pre-alpha in February, their management schedule was screwed over from the start. Another couple of months wouldn't have done a whole lot. They'd need a whole year.

This thread... This thread...

This thread... is good when it's not talking about Halo 4. What I mean is when we're talking about Halo 2 and 3, hot chicks, speed runs, and everything besides Halo Reach and 4. Not about what bullshit decision is in the game.

And with that, I'm out again. My Minecraft360 world named 2TITS is calling me.

I'm sorry but the Needler sounds like a damn chain gun. It doesn't sound alien at all anymore.
I think it still sounds crystalline but there's not the same impact when you get a super combine--I feel like previous games telegraphed how many needles you were hit with better, but this might be the result of escalating its power.

It's more effective than ever but I find it less fun to use.
:/

I'm just gonna flat out ignore that Infinity Challenge. They have every intention of supporting as many companies and retailers as they can. I'm struggling to think of any 1st party games that have quite so many sponsors. Maybe racing sims have more? But those are logical deals.

Call me when they get deals with Youtube or Twitch.

It's really fucking gross. I never thought Halo would be the one to usher this shit in. I want to avoid it too. Do I just need to stay out of challenge playlist?

Yes. But it has replaced infinity slayer, so if you wanted a playlist dedicated to 4v4 slayer you're gonna have to play the infinity challenge playlist since slayer pro is gone.

Yeah. I'm all for the fostering of esports which rely somewhat on sponsorship but it just feels so wrong in Halo. Moreso after the previous mentions of Mtn Dew, Doritos, Ford and all the retailer exclusive bullshit.

At this point there isn't much left to say, entire aspects have been outsourced, half-finished or removed. A bunch of schilling and general buffoonery has taken its place. It really is upsetting that one of my favorite franchises turned into this pile. Then we get a trust us and a "thanks for trusting us" on the credits reel. Really grinds my gears.

So what's the timetable on visible ranks and file sharing? Still kind of shocked that features were removed from previous halos and features that are supposed to be in the game aren't yet.

Any eta on a boltshot nerf yet?

Also, how do you outsource content when you're a giant first party studio?

From a marketing pov, Halo(or vidyagames in general) have lots of space to sell. Think of it like a sports broadcast. They could sell:

Map names (stadium rights)
challenges (trivia)
playlists
armor
double progressions
loading screens (very likely)

You would have taught Activision would be the company innovating in this arena, but I suspect League Play is a step in that direction.

Ranks: Early 2013
Filesharing: December...loljk Early 2013
Features coming back: Soon
Boltshot nerf: Don't know if it's happening, but there will be a sandbox patch sometime in the near future.

So to answer your questions, all of those things will be coming soon.

"When the Dew is no more, shall the dawn of the Rank commence."

Really, they have not given us any substantial info on the updates.

Rash of players over on Waypoint getting matchmaking bans... Only obvious thread linking them together seems to be they all downloaded the Crimson maps for free. Oh boy.

The Needler is the best/most under-appreciated weapon in the Halo series. Where's Dax? She'll back me up on this.
I said when I first played with the Needler that I would choose it over any power weapon. I still stand by that statement. Looking back, and as much as I love the Needler from Halo 3, Bungie should've made it a power weapon. It seems like such an obvious decision now.

I meant to post one of these two pictures with my excerpt about the battle in front of the Citadel. Guess I'll just post 'em now!

Second one's from Coco's Hindsight: Halo 3.

My review now consists of five pages of single-spaced, bulleted points that I need to organize and expand upon. Oh geez.

It's retarded that I have to ask this, because it should have been communicated by 343 in advance, but what is the difference between the Infinity Challenge playlist and Infinity Slayer which was removed?

the ranking system will come in January I think. No idea about file sharing. In the last bulletin, they said that they ran into some unforeseen trouble with it. My earliest guess would me January as well.

Well for one, you can't win a truck in Infinity Slayer.

Sorry I had to quit out so fast yesterday, Elzar. Never ended up getting back on, because H4lo has somehow strangled my previous insane desire to play Halo all day long.

Possibly unrelated: my wife thanks 343i for their contribution to the Halo series.

The game costs millions of dollars to produce, yet what part of the game truly came from solely 343i (without the aid of another company)? The only thing I can think of is the campaign.

I may be wrong, however it's not like we have any clarification on the subject.

What does the amount of money have to do with management? You don't necessarily spend all your money hiring more people; contracting out work is often done in the production and post business, why wouldn't you do it with games?

I bought LE and haven't even tried the new maps. I have very little motivation to play this game. I bought black ops 2 for pc and am actually pretty addicted to it right now. It's a sad day when I pick COD over Halo. Every flow has its ebb, I suppose.

No worries Squid, thanks for playing.

And yes, I understand where you're coming from, I actually have fun playing H4 when I'm on, but the desire to get on is far less then it has ever been.

which is a damn shame.

I wasn't discussing management necessarily, however I find it odd that more and more aspects of this game is being discovered as outsourced to people who aren't solely 343 Industries. Is that why Halo 4 had such a costly price tag to produce? What aspects of the game remained within 343i?

Well ultimately they're the managers of everything, whether vended out to someone else or not; the buck stops with them.

I assume they had a complete hand in all the design and concept stuff though.

Which, what it boils down to, is mostly within the campaign. I'm sure they oversaw the majority of everything in Halo 4, however they just weren't the ones to implement it.

Just wanted to remind people who haven't finished the campaign on Legendary, you can get the achievements/armor by just doing the last rally point of each mission. Did it Sunday with the last two missions and I don't even feel guilty, especially considering that the PromKnight encounters on Midnight are among the select few terrible gaming experiences I've ever had. Three pointblank Scattershot blasts to the face? Nope, here's your shitty checkpoint again.

Now that I've played the campaign (almost) twice all the way through, I have very little desire to do it again. :-(

Yeah, I was already near my limit of how much I could take anyway, and then it was time for food. Food>Halo 4
