Going over Kamiya's tweets, I don't think he knows (or cares) who Luke Plunkett is, lol
Nobody should.

He said:
"Fuck off, you fucking stupid idiot foreigner. Satisfied?"
Bolded for sarcasm.
Read the tweet and "use your own brain".
Things may escalate into an "Annoyed Gamer" segment, but I'm sure he's not even looking at the other side of the story... -.-
the way it should beGoing over Kamiya's tweets, I don't think he knows (or cares) who Luke Plunkett is, lol
What is wrong with the word foreigner? Why is that word xenophobic?
I don't know who this AnnoyedGamer is, and seems it's not important that I ever find out.
as you can easily tell from many of the responses here, just find it cute.
Does a segment on Gametrailer, kinda like Pachter thang..they're friends as well =/

Stop overreacting. His comment was neither xenophobic, racist, or whatever you want to classify it as, because he was not being serious or saying with harmful intent.Love following him on Twitter, but this far from his first time complaining about 'foreigners'. This sort of xenophobia, racism, or whatever you want to classify it as, scarcely elicits a bat of an eyelash in Japan, which is really disappointing. I'm not greatly offended by it in this case, but the response in general to this sort of thing is problematic. People, as you can easily tell from many of the responses here, just find it cute. It is a serious issue for those 'foreigners' who live in, or even just visit, Japan.
Foreigner by itself isn't necessarily bad. Saying "Hey, my friend Bill his a foreigner." is completely harmless.
But saying 'you stupid fucking foreigners' while having a history of complaining about 'foreigners' on your Twitter is certainly more venomous and undeniably xenophobic.

Stop making a big deal out of a joke.
He said some stupid fucking foreigners, and by all accounts there were some stupid fucking foreigners.

Terrible comparison. So is it OK to call people lazy fucking spics if they're Hispanic and lazing about?

Edit: Tempering the 'history of complaining about 'foreigners' part until I flip through his Twilog. I just remember glancing over such tweets in the past, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

GAF does it all the time.
Don't we always?
It was xenophobic in so far it is expected of someone put up the extra patience required when dealing rude American (or whereever) tweeters (is that the noun?) so as to treat everyone with equal respect. At the same time I can't blame him if he decides he won't be answering any english tweets for the next few hours, as he has done in the past. Brings back memories of FFXI: JP Onry.
Read the article, doesn't justify the crappy headline. How many people here actually read that Kotaku article? I think it made some good points about specifically why PC gaming isn't popular in Japan and a lot of it is because publishers don't bother to localize their products for the market. That's definitely not blaming Japan for anything.
Good points meaning inaccurate or outdated points backed up with nothing? okHow many people here actually read that Kotaku article? Stop making a big deal out of a joke. I'm not dismissing xenophobia as a major issue in Japan, from what I've heard it is. I'm just saying that this particular tweet is nowhere near as malicious as the words "racist" and "xenophobic" would imply.

Going off on people by calling them idiots is great. Going off on people by being racist isn't.
He's going to clean with Rain and drink Windex right?

This has half-changed my mind. I'm hardly offended, but there is a bit more to it than I was seeing. Still not a big deal.Kamiya was responding to this tweet in full (it was shortened in his response due to character limit):

In context it doesn't appear to be sarcasm at all.
Obviously he doesn't believe all 'foreigners' are idiots, it just happens to only be English speakers that are tweeting him stupid crap all the time.
(had to censor due to work filter)
Indeed, this pretty new thread worthy. This really deserves a new thread, pretty embarrassing for all parties involved, Kamiya has always being eccentric but Kotaku is just plain work. Stick to Top 10 panty shits 2013 lists, Plunkett.
Absolutely. Shall we appease EviLore?Indeed, this pretty new thread worthy.
Going off on people by calling them idiots is great. Going off on people by being racist isn't.
Yeah but we haven't blacklisted it yet.
I'm going to bed soon. Someone just make it!Absolutely. Shall we appease EviLore?
I don't know if you can say he was being racist. Obviously there is a grey area there when he decides he'll be speaking Japanese and vents frustration over English tweets.
Yeah, becoming the leader of all Japan coming off being a mere game director is pretty threadworthy!Indeed, this pretty new thread worthy.
I think a politician would get a lot of shit if he said stupid fucking foreigners.
Oh come on we make threads for every tiny controversy. This one features everyone most favorite developer vs the infamous Kotaku.Yeah, becoming the leader of all Japan coming off being a mere game director is pretty threadworthy!
Yeah, but if it was a politician would people really think, it isn't racist at all. Today someone likable said it, hence the defense force. Honestly that Fez guy got so much bullshit and you're going to let Kamiya slide?Thank god Kamiya isn't running for office?
We really need someone to program a Kamiya twitter bot. Just mix a combination of "eat shit", "your mom", "ask capcom", some stuff about foreigners, links to old tweets that are links to older tweets, and occasionally a tweet that's only a smiley face.
Can't be that hard...
So saying it in Japanese makes it not racist?
Yeah, becoming the leader of all Japan coming off being a mere game director is pretty threadworthy!
