True that, i think my favorite design was in the Oshii movies, tbh.

Especially the face:

She's sexualized pretty badly in the opening but for actual design I still like the old Psx look (I know I'm alone in this one). I miss the 90's :'(

The PS1 design is ripped almost straight from the manga, so I'm a fan. If someone made a throwback 90s-style Ghost in the Shell I'd be all for it.

I like the new look. If they're going for a younger depiction of the Major, it looks right to me. Though not having Kamiyama helming the project hurts since I love the way he chooses to tell stories. SAC, Moribito, and Eden of the East are damn near impeccable.

Still, Production I.G. has talent and I've enjoyed a few of their shows over the past few years. I hope this turns out well. At least, give me more of Togusa and Saito.

Yeah, i really really love Moribito. I was honestly a bit disappointed cause I expected an action show but I got something even better. Doesn't hurt that when there was action scenes the animation looked so ridiculously good

Yeah it's not as absurd an opinion as you think, like Robut said, it's the closest they got to the manga (which is not inherently good or bad).
I still like the Film's better, but that would come second.

It had fantastic backgrounds too. I saw it with similar expectations back when Adultswim started airing it, but I was surprised at how methodical the show was. When I looked up the people responsible, it made sense.

It's the image I posted!
Oh, that one didn't look bad enough to be called "butchered." Her facial expression is hilarious but if that's butchered you better not even GLANCE at Man-Machine interface. She basically got mega breast implants and a spine removal in that.

Man, that updated Motoko. :/

I think the outfit would not seem so lame if it were presented differently or had more detail. The drawing looks cheap and unremarkable. Previous Motoko always gave the impression of being serious and self-possessed, but this is more a resentful teenager. Maybe it's a prequel thing?

I hope the show is decent at least. More GITS is better than none at all.

This is my biggest worry, I've loved all his work. The movies are great, but there are many episodes that trump them.

If R* were even remotely decent people, they would've done:
Oni 2.
Action open world in GitS/Appleseed/Akira style.
Not touched by Dan Houser's writing, possibly.

But Oni was done by Bungie. What does R* have to do with a game they never, ever worked on outside of a port?

Staff and art does not inspire confidence. Please be good. It's been baffling that GITS has been sitting idle for so long after the two amazing SAC seasons (and the fairly "eh" Solid State Society).

I know, Take Two published it, so i guess it owns the franchise and R* is good at open world games (and it's owned by T2).
Of the original Oni you don't really have to keep anything, since it already was a rip off of the various cyberpunk/anime tropes seen in GitS and the like.

Point being: WE JUST NEED AN EXCUSE!

R* Oni would be amazing.

I'd have to check an episode guide, but the stuff in the series resonated with me more. The taxi driver episode, the whole laughing man saga, the episode of chat room people discussing it, the country refugee politics, etc.

I just loved the world they created, going into every detail of how it all would work.

I'm honestly excited to see where the story goes. SAC/2nd GIG were great but they eventually fell down the rabbit hole of the
Major leaving section 9
. I feel like that whole story has been done to death. Let's try a fresh approach.

Unsurprisingly...I'm rather unimpressed by the new design. I really could just take it or leave it.

Seems like it's arguably attempting to be a modified version of the one from the movies though, particularly in terms of color variations. Still...whether or not the characters look particularly good, which will be interesting to find out whenever the rest of the designs are finally revealed, I'm quite a bit more worried about how the writing in general will turn out.

That is a lot more important for this property than the real or imagined artistic merits of the artwork in the end. The currently announced staff isn't exactly selling me on this, true, but I'm hoping that they will have enough help to avoid screwing up too badly. Say, they could bring together a couple of the writers who worked on the previous Ghost in the Shell entries and have them contribute to specific scripts at the very least. Something like that. For the time being...I don't expect this to be great, but I will check it out.

On the brighter side, this thread seems to have brought out all the animu fans who've gone into hiding these past few months! Nice to know theres a sizeable community on Neogaf, besides the ones on the Gundam megathread. :D
