Looks so good, it's a shame I'm gonna have to wait to play it, but SSM as per usual know what they are doing graphically, I was a little shocked how good it does look strikes during the demo.

I'm still hoping this prequel is a lead into GoW4 though,
the whole Fury thing now that's come out of nowhere for this game, it makes me wonder if one of them is who takes Kratos at the end of GoW3; you know, if he doesn't kill all of them, lol.

Just not feeling the hype for this one.

Same. I've been trying so hard to get excited for it but I can't, and I never had to "try" with the previous 3 console games. I'm still going to buy it because it should be enjoyable in its own way, but these games used to feel like major events in their respective years. Now it just feels like another AAA game coming out.

Played the demo on Sunday... on a 100"+ screen. Was glorious!

In regards to this trailer... I think they could've done better. Doesn't have the impact the GOW3 ads did.

Probably because people had a ton more anticipation built up for GOW3 than this game. Conclusion of a trilogy, first GOW on PS3, attacking Mt. Olympus with titans and killing all the gods. Lots of reasons to be much more excited and therefore hyped up by a trailer. Context is everything.

Seeing a lot of boobs in that concept art. *bow tie spins and makes whistling sound*

Awesome pervy cyclops animation at 4:55.

Saw the first 15 seconds or so. Holy shit that IQ looks godlike for a console game. Just thinking what SSM can pull off with PS4 hardware makes me incredibly excited!

I didn't know much going into GOW3, and played the first two all the way through after.

I meant from an editing standpoint, they could've used better pacing with the music and placement of clips. It probably works on other levels, however, especially for long-time fans. Perhaps I'll give a shot at making a better trailer later.

Ok can somebody give me a quick synopsis of what this game is about? I played GOW 1,2, and 3 but never touched any after that, nor did I play the psp ones at all.

IF you have a PSP or Vita handy, you should know the two PSP games come highly recommended, especially the second prequel "Ghost of Sparta".

But to answer your question, having played the three main games, you are not missing any integral part of the story, as the handheld games were prequels to the first game, and focused on shedding more light on Kratos prior to his war on Ares and the Gods.

Edit: woops misread your question; this game is the third prequel, taking place before the events of the first game, six months after Kratos killed his wife and child.

Taken from the God of War website
Six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood - tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved. Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken... Sentenced to an eternity chained within a prison for the living damned, Kratos battles insanity at the hands of the Furies. He will be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins, and the clarity to avenge his family.

So is this game a sequel after 3? I thought
Kratos died in 3
maybe I am not remembering it correctly...

edit: ah just read the post above mine, so this is a semi-sequel after one I am assuming?

Also is this game as bad as 3 in the gore department. I really had a hard time finishing 3 as it made me squeamish and was really way to bloody for its own good.

It's a prequel to the first God of War.

If you said that was a ps4 game I would believe you. Those guys have crazy talent. I can't even imagine what their ps4 games will look like.

Looks awesome, question though is this game potentially setting up a new arc? Would be cool if this series could continue into PS4 in a meaningful way. Or do you suppose we would get a mainline God of War for that,
but who is left to kill? lol
Unless Ascension contains it, there are still a few things left:

- Hecate, Greek goddess of witches and magic
- Morpheus, only mentioned and played a role in Chains of Olympus but never appeared
- The other two Hekatonchires, although Gyges appeared in the comic book
- Primordials possibly
- A few other Greek myths I can't think of right now

Of course, the way GoW3 ended I dunno if they could push on with any of it, but let's hope so or at least introduce a new pantheon/mythology.

Oh ok. Hmm maybe will buy when it drops in price then. As long as it isnt beyond disgusting like 3 was.

In terms of gore it will. Sorry man it's part of the signature for this series, the gore goes hand-in-hand with the way Kratos fights and fits in with the over the top anger he has.

Sorry if you find it annoying, but based on the demo alone, this game won't be an exception.

I feel like one of the main reasons for doing the prequel is to introduce some new characters and barely touch on them. GOW3 left no one left. They would have a hard time justifying 4 this way. By having hints of different mythologies at play or new arcs they can as infinitely many possibilities to where 4 will go

lol I would probably expect them to continue to push the boundaries of how gorey they want to get. however, since you're not murdering gods in this one, there is probably less over-the-top violence committed against humanoids. Looks like there will be a lot more giant monster type bosses, which I think is really cool.

The game is a prequel that takes place before all the GoW games that have been released so far.

I'm sure there won't be a 4 and they are going to reboot the franchise on the PS4 with a new mythos, protagonist, gameplay elements, level design etc.

I would love it. A Nord of War. But I feel like there's too much brand recognition with Kratos and Sony would be too cautious to branch out.

Anyhoo, I can't wait to fight that

. It looks amazing

Indeed it does look great but about Kratos being recognisable could mean that they may keep him in some form for another trilogy IDK.

Not only that, but there's brand recognition regarding Norse mythology with a certain comic book company. Introducing Teutonic mythology might lead to many people to compare it with that seeing how popular said comic currently is.

However, you never can tell. They are plopping in Mjolnir in the MP of Ascension, but that's only to promote the History Channel's Vikings series.

Other mythologies are definitely not out of the question and have been more than hinted at in the series, i.e. the Efreet.

Lord have mercy...the IQ in this game is absolutely mind boggling. On PS3 hardware no less...wow.

It is but unfortunately the framerate has taken a hit. God of War 3 retail is much smoother than Ascencion demo (which is supposed to be 99.9% complete).

who needs next gen when current gen games look like this!

Well, they don't considering the GIFs. They run with a sub-par resolution with a less than desirable framerate and pretty visible aliasing. It certainly is great for a PS3 game, but it's exactly just that. A ps3 game. Which, if you are used to the look of modern pc gaming, isn't that great anymore.
