I'm with Maldo. If there is CG, it's mapped onto a live action actor (as well as derived from that actor) and in only some of the shots so there can be a comparison post-reveal.

It seems an odd way to show how awesome your tech is though...oh, look! we got 2/5 of a persons face to look real under bandages!

It's still quite clearly CG

?

No it's clearly not quite clearly CG. I'm pretty sure that if you remove the sound from that video and show it to anyone, no one would see a CG character. All they would say would probably be: "Hey look a pretty girl talking. Why are you showing me this?"

Don't get me wrong. I highly doubt Joakim was CG. But there is nothing in the previous video that makes it quite clearly CG like you said. No apparent aliasing, no visible shader artifacts, the skin looks totally real, the face animation looks completely real, the blouse she is wearing looks real. It's a pretty damn good job and this is the first and only video I can honestly say uncanny valley.

By all mean show me what makes it fake in your eyes.

Just an idea... this guy up there is clearly a person. Why we cannot suppose that he was the model used to make the CG one that then we saw in the the interview?

I am in TeamCG more because "I want to believe" than because real proofs, but honestly some parts are a bit weird... at first when I saw his "reaction face" to the FoxEngine sentence...well the eyes didn't look that normal to me ahahah

For me it looks CG. Facial expressions are simply too dramatic in that interview. As of facial animation rendering we saw what LA Noire did on 2006 hardware something like this should be possible now.

We chosen people of #teamcg maintain that the Joakim is in fact a model of a mortal man, projected onto a higher plane of existance, this is the gospel. It's the heretics of #teamreal that feel that the Joakim is a man of flesh and blood, and that our prophet Kojima's miracles are all lies.

#teamfun is lame though. If you're gonna be #teamcg commit for real reasons, like #teamneck or #teameyelid. Whether it be #teamrealtime or #teamprerendered...

In this spring...this is very tough...in this spring I'm going to take my talents to GDC and join #teamcg.

you sound like one of the Realies sent here to cause confusion inside of #teamcg. Welcome aboard but I'm keeping my eye on you.

Here's a little task for all the naysayers, but please attempt to do the same reaction as Joakim at the end without moving your bottom eyelids.

Come on, do it.

TeamCG has been taken over by TeamFun, they are no longer valid as a team of true believers. C'mon over to TeamReal were we still stand for something... real!

Nope. #TeamFun has a right to exist, but I'll always be #TeamCG because I BELIEVE.

Geoff wouldn't go to a random hotel room for absolutely nothing.

This is why the consequences for losing should be severe. Account ban, GAF flogging, Tibetan Monk-style self-immolation, whatever. Then we'll see if you Team F(l)akes are really going to commit to your supposed "stand". #bringit

its also deliberately bad acting.

That's what I thought for most of it too. Like he was trained to be bizarre.

As #TeamReal member, I could see interview having a couple of purposes, one is to build up hype and knowledge about the GDC panel/reveal, and another is maybe they will try to show the interview again but with the guy as CGI or something.

I wanna see your "reaction face" if you get surprised by something while having bandage around your head.

Has it been pointed out that Joakim is an anagram for Kojima? I looked through the thread but couldn't find anything on that particular point.

Since last years VGA's.

That's the other thing, I think details of his eyes and mouth are unnatural and exaggerated because that is all you see and it tricks your brain..

But, hey, I mean, why do the same thing twice? You know what I'm saying?

#teamreal where everything is as it's always been. Fuck that, sounds boooooooring!

Thinking that it's not possible that this guy was CG is silly.

Thinking that this guy was rendered with the fox engine on anything remotely close to next gen hardware is lunacy.

Basically this whole exercise was pointless from a tech standpoint.

Of course he'd go if Kojima's people contacted him and asked him to do a fun little interview for them. It's not like that would be below Geoff's standards or something. I mean it's just Gametrailers, he has to find something to fill up time on that show.

Yep, the mystery alone gets people talking. I think the interview clearly had purpose beyond the revelation of the fox engine, but not that he was CGI..

I just rewatched the video, and the whole time I was concentrated on staring at Joakim's lips. The way they moved at times felt unnatural. I'm switching camp to TeamCGI.

Have you never watched The Matrix? there is no going back, you already took the blue pill.

Am I still on TeamCG when I think that Joakim's head is CG and his facial movements were recorded via facial motion capturing?
Meaning that the guy who was interviewed by Geoff had a shitload of dots on his face.

If so then I am totally on Team CG.

This thread (and the rereveal of Phantom Pain) will be absolutely glorious.

Uh....that's fucking CG. Holy shit man.

It's definitely a little trickery going on with motion capture and video compositing though.

Maybe only the mouth is real. And when Kojima will do his presentation he will show the video with the CG mouth, showing where there is still work to be done to get complete realism.

So put me on team Hybrid I guess.

so #teamcg for you then? Sweet, welcome.

People are confusing his weird face and terribly and purposefully bad acting with something that's not real lol. Just cos he looks weird doesn't mean he's animated. many people in real life look and act just as weird.

The only thing being rendered in the "Emily" Image Metrics demo is her face, which is laid over her actual face. Everything else is real because it's the same video they used to create the face animation in the first place.
