Gametrailers interview: Kojima answers EVERY question on Metal Gear Solid V

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/84h9k6/metal-gear-solid-v--the-phantom-pain-kojima-interview

-Sounds like we'll be getting Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain separately. Ties into how Kojima was interested in episodic releases. Ground Zeroes first and then Phantom Pain, as Ground Zeroes "eases us" into the sneaking and whatnot, and Phantom Pain is a huge game that continues.

-Hayter is gone for good :(

-Ground Zeroes takes place almost immediately after Peace Walker, Phantom Pain 9 years later

-It will be open world unlike previous Metal Gears where you just show up at a stage and go in a linear path. Instead they want it to be "realistic infiltration", you choose how to infiltrate, where to infiltrate, and what time is best to do it. There could be side missions along the way that affect your objective.

-You will only play as Big Boss

-80% realistic, 20% sci fi/fantasy (fire whales and shit)

WTF. Not paying for two games that fill in the role of 1 game.

The Lord of the Rings were three part movies with about 9 hours footage, I'm pretty sure fans would prefer to get the first part without waiting, instead of waiting for a long time and get all three parts at once.

I'm guessing that's what Kojima is going with.

Expect Ground Zeroes this year instead of next year.

Well...the PR guy said TPP was definitely for PS3/360. So I can't imagine GZ being any different.

Yeah Hayter probably pissed someone off.

That excuse is bullshit when they are keeping the japanese actor.

I think he did know he was getting the boot. Why else would he ask through Twitter what would we think of a MGS game without him? He knew and probably because he was demanding or something.

Probably more time for him to write that script for the MGS movie! (note he did the script for the first two Xmen movies so he has some talent)

His reason for no Hayter is so... bizarre; especially when Akio Ōtsuka is coming back for the Japanese version. Seems like Kojima could angry with Hayter over something. Come on, Kojima. Smarten up... ugh, I'm so torn. I'm excited to see more, but for some reason I'm having a hard time really getting excited like I used to get for Metal Gear. My favourite franchise ever and it doesn't feel like much right now which is strange for me. It just won't be Metal Gear without Hayter, simple as that. Especially if Sutherland will be doing the voice. It might sound funny, but it is an important aspect of the franchise.

No Hayter no buy.

I am sure you're not serious!

WTF. Not paying for two games that fill in the role of 1 game.

I tend to decide if I'll buy games based on if they are well made and look like something that I will enjoy playing.

But hey, whatever works.

Good on Geoff for playing along with the CG stuff.

I watched the interview but I didn't hear anything about Hayter. did I miss something?

edit: nvm. Rewatched and found it.

I hope the excuse for taking out Hayter doesn't mean they are taking out Otsuka for JP version. I know the first GZ trailer had him but just a bit worried.

Kojima pretty much gave a non-answer concerning Hayter; Geoff did actually ask why he wasn't even contacted about it, and Kojima was all like "Well, we want to take a new direction with this and that's reflected by the voice actor," despite how the seiyuu for Snake is still the same.

Any YouTube link? Not working on my phone.

No Hayter is so disappointing. If they had a falling out just suck it up and get it done for the sake of the fans. Overwhelming majority of MGS fans are really against this news.

haha, the tears if Ground Zero was ps4 exclusive.

It wouldn't make sense for it to be exclusive to any platform. GZ is key to TPP, so people need to know what went on with it to understand TPP. You should just expect GZ to be on the same platforms as TPP. It's already confirmed at a PS3 game

My guess is that Kojima doesn't want to comment on it right now because GZ is going to be downloadable. It's his pilot episode.

I think Snakes original is great for that simple action hero personality, but Kojima probably wants to take the character further, make him less one sided, I'm guessing Snake's original and you gotta admit fake sounding voice just won't do for what he's aiming for.

Listen to Snake's Japanese voice, it's a lot more natural and more versatile, it can easily be used for an evolved character.

Or this is all an elaborate ruse!

Actually he did say everything they are showing is running on PC...

Its been repeated over and over again that it was developed and running on PCs since the Ground Zeroes reveal.

I'm optimistic that it will be coming to PC though. With the level of visual fidelity, next gen consoles having similar architecture, and Konami's recent push towards the Steam platform.

So the Pope didn't even ask for a release date ...

They probably went over what questions were allowed and not allowed before the interview.

After watching this interview, I'm pretty positive that The Phantom Pain/Ground Zeroes will be coming out on the PS4 and next Xbox.

Can't help but laugh at "No Hayter no buy." Those folks will be among the first that get the game. They're, like, foaming at the mouth for more Kojim. Let alone the fact that we're getting a superior voice actor in return (my boy Kiefer).

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
*sigh* This is all unnecessarily complicated and confusing.

Ground zeroes will be a 2-3 hour long demo , like the tanker mission in MGS2. That's what I think at least. Whether it's affixed to another game or just downloadable - who knows ? Cost too , no idea.

Interesting to see him standing by the "running on a PC " answer though, that's what he said at pax prime about the ground zeroes playable demo thing. Taken separately there are many aspects of the games graphics that look ps3/360 level (I mean these are consoles that can make games such as the last of us afterall) , I'm just not convinced that ALL of those graphical details will run well enough on current gen hardware. 1280X720 running at 30fps with some crazy level of detail settings might do it. It just won't quite look that nice, then you'll have a ps4 version with 60 fps 1080p. I'm also curious as to which year it's aiming to release. With new hardware on the way they've got 12 months left to release on current hardware and still make some kind of a dent sales wise. If they wait until NEXT holiday though, they can launch on newer hardware.

A lot about reinventing the series... but if that's the reason for getting rid of Hayter, why did the Japanese Ground Zeroes trailer have the same voice actor for Big Boss?

People upset by the lack of Hayter: why? I realize that he has been Snake's voice, but with each game it has gotten considerably worse. Sutherland will be a good replacement.

Really didn't want the two separate games thing to be true. Really disappointed he will sell a prologue separately. Especially since we know how it ends already haha.

I really couldn't care less about Hayter after MGS4, so I don't care about him being booted. Akio Otsuka is still probably there because he's more talented and really well known in Japan.
