I really hope this is true. I want Sony to talk about Media and console prior to E3 because i think since Sony was about the hardcore when revealing the console, E3 will be about media shit and other blah. This better happen before E3, so E3 can be about games and more features, instead of services. Or at least the services part will be severely limited.

They already did the bolded to a certain extent. They uploaded the Killzone Shadow Fall clip (still surprised that was in 1080p) and Remote Played Knack on the Vita.

I'd expect to see the hardware and more info on the console, maybe expanding on what the camera can do.

At E3 they also need to cover PS3 and Vita.

On the one hand, a Sony Japan exec seemed to suggest before that there was a May announcement planned...but that was before the February announcement.

Also bear in mind that Shuhei Yoshida seemed to imply that there'd be nothing more until E3 by way of big, public facing events for PS4. At least he said he 'hoped' there wouldn't be another until E3.

Honestly, if Sony hold another event before MS reveal their console, the haemorrhaging of mind share will likely to incalculable and undoubtedly result in a prolonged negative view of the next Xbox as a console that's "copying" the competition and lacking in unique ideas and features.

This makes perfect sense when you consider what Sony has to cover in its E3:

There needs to be at least half an hour dedicated to Vita with new game announcements
PS3 needs to show off its own games like Rain, Puppeteer, Beyond and Until Dawn which will also probably last around half an hour
Then you only have an hour to dedicate to ps4 and that's way too little if you want to show off new games and talk about all those services.

Sony want ALL the coverage for themselves. At E3 you get coverage that is competing with everything else. This way you get all the coverage and discussion to yourself. Look at the initial reveal, people are still talking positively about the PS4

E3 this year will be heavily pushing next gen console games, so Sony (and MS) will get secondary coverage throughout E3. Plus significant coverage for their keynote.

If they want an event to show more detail on the OS and features, and maybe more time to spend with games thats ok, but they'll still need enough left in the tank for an E3 keynote - so I think they might show the console but won't announce price/timing until E3.

My bet is that this PS4 event (if it will actually happen) will be a few days after the Xbox event. That would move the attention from the new XBox.

I've suggested something like that a couple of times in an MSX sort of context. Honestly can't see it happening but it's nice as a thought experiment!

As for this further reveal... I'd be surprised if there is one but I'd welcome it whatever its focus.

Im super hungry for more PS4 news. I was hoping after the event was over they would be showing more details of the revealed games and maybe a new title. After all showing a new game on a random day will generate more buzz for the title than showing it amongst many titles at E3. It's a shame Sony essentially went quite about the games and I really want to see more of Second Son and Knack. Please let this second event happen!

I've had a feeling Sony would do this, after the console no-show at the PS meeting. Let MS reveal, then a week or so later have your own event to show off the PS4, and take back the headlines. A pretty good pr/marketing strategy imo.

If Sony offers $399 and a solid launch line up I will be there day one. A GTA 5 cross gen would be fantastic for launch

I think some people here want MS to be in panic mode in my opinion. They give themselves away by having a go at people for defending a corporation that doesn't give a shit about them and then go on to brown nose another corporation that doesn't give a shit about them.

If their machine is truly superior to the next Xbox, then all they have to do is show off gameplay that makes the Xbox gameplay look bad. And the best impact is for a far graphically superior game shown in real time running on a ps4.
