Is it possible for the japanese direct to still be announced?
I may be wrong, but they the later they announced a direct was just 8 hours before it airs. So there is still room.
It's pretty obvious they will have one, the contrary would be really surprising...
They'll probably tease E3, or at least say something in the lines of: Please look forward to E3. Or something.
Shouldn't the Japanese Direct be announced by now? Where's Cheesemeister?
Still no Japanese conference?
Isn't this direct actually an hour later than previous global directs?
Japan might still have one, but that extra hour might indicate no, and they pushed it back so America would have a more reasonable time to wake up at in the morning.

Last one iirc was at 2pm UK time (GMT), this one is at 3pm UK summer time which is an hour later (BST/GMT+1)
So it's at the same time for us at least.
Forgot about the time change ... But should that matter? Does Japan not participate in DST?
I don't recall there being a simultaneous Direct for NA and Europe without Japan being involved.
Simultaneous Directs tend a) to be simultaneous across the world and b) to contain at least one new announcement of some kind.

Come on Japanese direct, I want some new software announcements.

Nope, JST stays the same as it always is.
No Japanese Direct = No Zelda 3DS.

Incoming "but we want a Wii U Direct"- Posts.
3DS??? Nintendo's not convincing me that they still care about the Wii U. I don't care if Iwata just apologized for thirty minutes on a new Nintendo Direct, I just want to hear some new Wii U news straight from the source.
'NINTENDO 3DS DIRECT' COMING AT MIDNIGHT
BETWEEN WEDNESDAY, 17th APRIL AND THURSDAY,
18th APRIL IN AUSTRALIA
New Nintendo Direct presents the latest information on Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo today announced a new edition of Nintendo Direct. The 'Nintendo 3DS Direct' will be streamed from the Nintendo Direct website at midnight between 17th and 18th April (AEST).
Nintendo is promoting this direct via email with a whole day to spare, and I don't think they've done that frequently.
I doubt nintendo would talk about third party games being localized unless they publish them themselves. No Japan would mean either western games developed by western companies (lol, no) or already released games in Japan that are getting localized, so I'm hyped.
Nice vague email from Nintendo Australia.

There'll obviously be a Japanese Direct, or they would have done this a few hours later.

No Japanese Direct would seem to indicate the strong likelihood of some big localization announcements of previously Japan-only 3DS games like BDFF and Fantasy Life, among others.
Also, the beginning of a major, major push for Animal Crossing in the west. New XL bundle, etc.
Details and trailer for DKCR 3D
New trailers for Mario Golf, Mario & Luigi
Maybe a new game announcement or two? (We haven't had a handheld Kirby since fall 2011)
All in all, should be a good morning for us.
Directs are one of the better ideas that have come out of Ninty, it does a great job of hyping the fanbase and directly communicate with them.
If Iwata were to step down, I'd want him to still host them. The guy might not be leading the company in the direction most of us want, but he's still a nice face to see once and a while.
We haven't had a handheld Metroid since 2006.
We haven't had a handheld Zelda since 2009.
Not saying Kirby isn't imminent, but it's not exactly a huge gap.
