Hideo Kojima: Metal Gear Sold 5 Motion Capture is complete ; Examiner: I WANT CLICKS!

MOD ABUSE

I'm not really sure why tweets like this pass the bar for news articles personally. At the very least, shouldn't there be more research done to make the article more informative and reflective of facts?

Kojima tweeted a few days about the completion of the main motion capture part of MGS5. There were several tweets about it aside from this. First he compared game development with film making, and contrasted the two. The point was that for films, after principal photography is complete, the rest is post-production and editing, with the actual film content more or less done. For game development there's still much more to do. He also talked about the expanded international cast they used for motion capture acting this time, and how child actors tend to grow very quickly, and they seem more mature at the end of a filming session than before.

This is not a "game is delayed" tweet, it's not a "things are falling behind" tweet, and it's not a "here's an update on the progress of the game's development" tweet. It's just him giving personal thoughts about the milestone of finishing the motion capture sessions for the game.

I really hate the way internet "news" works where sites are encouraged to twist stuff into evocative headlines to get clicks, to get it linked in forums and social media, just so people think that there's something to read into from a goddamn tweet. It sickens me that information and technology are used in such flippant ways under the guise of "journalism".

Fuck everything.

‘Metal Gear Solid 5’ creator, Hideo Kojima, says the game ‘needs more time’ (Photos)

Hideo Kojima, mastermind behind the “Metal Gear Solid” franchise, revealed to fans on April 25 that the majority of the motion capture work for “Metal Gear Solid V” is now complete but the rest of the games development simply “needs more time” according to the popular game designer. Kojima’s full statement regarding the current development status of “Metal Gear Solid V” is below.

Such a large-scale Mo-cap is all done, but the game itself needs more time to be completed. We still need to shoot game motion, in addition to voice recording, facial capturing. And moreover implementing those tremendous volumes of data takes tremendous amount of time and effort.

“Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain” is being developed, like the series’ titles before it, under the design of Hideo Kojima. The game will be published by Konami and doesn’t currently have a release date set, nor has the developer discussed exactly which systems the game will appear on.

The way in which the thread is titled kinda implies something different to what the article is saying.

It's probably in it's early/mid stages right now of actual game development. Kinda a no brainer.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
6 years to create a 5 hour movie.

The future of games.

Jesus Christ. He was in a mocap session and posted on Twitter (like he often does) that they finished some of it but needed to do the facial and English voice still (performance capture above the neck). He has mentioned before that those elements are being done in the US without him. Needs more time tells us nothing about the release date. He wouldn't announce a delay on fucking twitter. Nothing to see here. Its fascinating getting behind the scenes stuff like this in real time but the more people manage to misinterpret the less open devs will be.

Remember when Hideo Kojima said he was going to "retire" from the Metal Gear series?

Because apparently he doesn't.

Look at Konami in general. They've practically destroyed every major franchise they had except for Metal Gear. Kojima is going to be stuck with that series literally until the day he retires.

I'mma be completely honest here. The trailers and promotional material for V are already legitimately more interesting an entertaining than the whole of MGS4 was. The musical choices(especially in the original phantom pain trailer and the Sacco and Vanzetti song in the gameplay reveal), the horror movie imagery, the Ishmael guy, the car crash.... the game just looks cool.

4 was just this hideous greyish-brown mess of tired melodrama and exposition that never went anywhere. It was like Kojima just gave up and said fuck it fine I'll make another god damn metal gear. This one looks like he actually gives a shit again and it's got me hyped.

Hmm none of these are gameplay. Looks like another cutscene focused game, folks.

The higher ups at Konami must have a gun pointed at Kojima's head telling him "We need money really bad so make us some more METAL GEAR, METAL GEAR".

Also yeah, he has been saying that since ever damn game in the series since 2 except for maybe Peace Walker.

2 & 3 had oodles of cutscenes alongside plenty of genuinely interesting gameplay concepts. The mechanics and level design ideas they've been talking about sound pretty great and more feasible to pull off than the "nowhere to hide" shit from 4.

The gameplay aspects were finished months ago, we got to see that in trailers and that real time footage.

Seriously though, most of the gameplay mechanics are probably already "in the bag" so to speak. Just like any traditional animation, it takes months of work to get it done.
