Anandtech: Tech analysis -- PS4 vs Xbox One, PS4/Xbox One's CPU performance

In other words, multiplats will target XBone but look better on PS4 and Sony exclusives will stomp everything.

I don't think anybody will be stomping anything this time around. Next gen graphics comparisons should come down to which game looks a little more awesome than another awesome looking game.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
And this is why you're going to hear a lot more about the "magic of cloud", because the PS4 is soundly superior in hardware in every way.

This isn't like this HD gen, with Cell in the way or different quantities of RAM requiring workarounds. The PS4 simply has a whole seemingly .6+ jump in specs.

Specs didn't matter In any of the previous generations. consoles will be judge on the games they have and don't have.

They did. Many people, myself included, buy what is perceived to be the 'best' hardware, even if in the PS360 gen it didn't really matter in the long run. It still has relevance to people making a purchase.

People want the best they can have for their money. The first thing that defines this is the power of the hardware.

The ESram is going to be very busy rendering out 1080p. Also won't the 3 os' also take up some of the 32mb there?

It's not going to save the Xbone from the PS4. But it will help make up for the differences in ram speed.

what the list doesn't take into account is kinect. whether we like it or not it is now a component of the Xbone and there seems to be a lot of tech in there too (a lot more than PSeye).
diverting some of their resources to kinect tech might explain why they've compromised on some of the innerds of the box itself.

The kinnect is exactly why. They don't want to charge $600 for a new system, but they want everyone to have kinnect, so something had to give.

This gen is gonna be tough for me. Price is key. The ps exclusives dont appeal to me at all but I like the hardware decisions but if ms can keep that price low it is an instant buy. Im gonna get both anyway. I always do.

Neither look stand out to me. And I'm sure they'll both be eclipsed by PC promptly. Nothing I've seen from either so far is especially impressive. I imagine PS4 will be the Xbox to the Xbox One's PS2.

I don't know much about the numbers, but they aren't substantially better than Xbox One.
It looks like a 20% or so increase on paper.

But in actuality isn't it similar to the difference between a GTX 660 and a GTX 670?

Basically that there is a factual difference, but its really rather mild?

[41548] Nick is saying that "to get all of this processing out of the box" is a challenge too.The new CPU core can do six CPU operations per core per cycle, on an eight-core CPU.

Don't dismiss the ESRam. In the post show they said they have 200 GB/sec bandwidth

people forget the ESRAM, didn't they say this will give them 200 GB/s?

200 GB/s > 176 GB/s

Yes I saw the core related discussion. Given the amount of misinformation in that presentation I wonder if all 8 cores are available or they're just providing calculative power in general and games will still have access to 6.

Pertaining to bandwidth it's pure MS math and is neither sustainable nor is it accurate because the 30GB/s additional bandwidth that puts that figure to over 200GB/s is the one between CPU and GPU and ps4 has the same. So one could easily add another 30 to 176 and call it a day. Arstechnica mentioned this.

50% GPU advantage plus the RAM advantage is 20% increase on paper? What am I missing?

Both have been eclipsed by PC's already... at least a year ago.

No it's like the difference between the 560 Ti (1.2 Tflops) and the GTX 660 (1.9 Tflops). Very big difference.

Probably a larger difference due to the optimizations for the 7970m hybrid in the PS4 plus brute force (and memory bandwidth of course). Having said that, we really don't know 'that' much about the One's gpu yet other than the raw numbers.

Still haven't seen any sources, say tech-sheets or quotes, about any information out there regarding XboxOne's graphics solution. Also on the manufacturing process.

200 GB/s > 176 GB/s

They said: Xbox One has ~200GB/s bandwidth "across system"
They just add it up to make it big. Aka my car does 90 your 80 our both our cars can reach 170!

Same with DAYUM 5 BILION TRANSISTORS.
Like anyone now uses that for power measurement...

this along with cloud based broader field of view...

I think it is what we expected if MS would deliver worse hardware. Same as Sony didn't boast beside ram at their reveal. Saying nothing like Nintendo would be bad so they just gathered what look like more than PS4 and baaam 5 bilion & 200 "across system"

20% of what ? This gen will be mostly about GPU power (both used low CPUs) and PS4 GPU is 50% more powerfull and has more waaaaay faster ram at disposition.

Difference will be more like Gamecube to Xbox. I think MS will go for 1600x900 as native res and when Sony will use 1920x1080 games on those consoles will look similar

ESram is a fuckin tiny fraction of the size of the ram the system has.

You should be thinking with your brain instead of your heart!

I have no horse in this race. I moved recently and didn't even bring my 360 with me, and my PS3 is under my TV. Granted, it's a Netflix device, but the point stands. I don't especially care which is more powerful. I just don't think it's realistic to imagine the difference being as substantial as you appear to want to believe they will be.

200 GB/s > 176 GB/s

How about you read the post just above you. MS is adding everything. Even the 32MB ESRAM is not as fast the whole 8GB that PS4 has. It will have some advantages but it will never diminish the power gap.
