Fighting Games Weekly | June 3-9 | Getting Put On Blast

That would require that the people making these games learn how to play them or fighting games in general.

Good luck with that.

The problem with fighting games overall for the past 20 years is that they sucked at either providing a basic tutorial on how to play the game properly, or don't offer any incentive for someone to learn how to play it.

Companies need to set aside the time and budget to teach new players how to play and explain the complexities of the game instead of just offering stupid mission modes or combo trials.

People who bought the game and would like a lot of content in it?

Fanboys don't want a fighting game, they want a RPG. TTT2 has plenty unless you're looking for single player content.

Well Namco actually has a high profile tekken player on the team(MishimaStar). So they have no excuse
What does he do? What is his position on this team?

They only give the people what they want. If people really wanted tutorials and thought they couldn't play fighters any other way they'd just do something else.

Instead they keep buying games that don't teach them squat so they can complain. :p

Isn't the reason that fighting games don't have robust tutorials is because VF/Sega patented it? I swear we have had this discussion before.

On the same note MOBA tutorials are god awful as well. I think DOTA 2's plan is to make a robust one but right now it's non existent.

Yeah, I remember hearing the same thing too. If that's the case that's mad shitty, but not much that can be done about it.

Skullgirls's tutorial is still pretty good though.

We have and I don't think anyone has anything concrete to say on the subject. I don't even think the patents had anything to do with tutorials. I'm pretty sure it had to do with mission mode replays at first.
He's a tester and balancer for the game since T6 I think. But yeah, he's there. He is the reason Tekken is as balanced as it is....
Hmmm

Every company has those. These days I want to see guys like him front and center at the transparent seat praising and scorning our suggestions. The problem with Japan and game balancing right now is that it feels like they're in an ivory tower so you get lots of frustrated people not understanding why they make the decisions they do.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
Namco has 2 iirc. One patent is the ability to play a minigame during a load screen and the other is something fighting game related. I forget what but it doesn't seem like a big deal from what I remember.

Skullgirls has one of the best tutorials and look at how many people play that game.

Tomorrow E3 begins and GAF is going to be a massive clusterfuck. I declare the FGW thread the safe haven for all gamers, not just fighting game fans.

Meltdowns are guaranteed, disappointments will be experienced, dreams shattered and promises broken... Or we may witness true greatness. Lots of PR jargon will be thrown around, lots of corporates playing on gamer emotions. You will go into E3 a calm, collected person but walk out a different person entirely. All those jaded gamers you see on GAF are the ones who have experienced the most E3s.

This will be my 13th E3. My first E3 which I followed was the MGS2 one during the PS2 era. Console war has changed... We have come a long way since then.

War. War never changes.

You weren't there in 2000? I think that was when Kojima unveiled MGS2 with a 9 minute trailer. I thought you were a staple of the IGN boards back then? That would make it 14 years if you're mistaken. But that was my first and although I didn't join the IGN boards yet, it was the board that I heavily lurked.

I wasn't here in GAF in 2000. I joined IGN in 2001 when DMC1 came out. I did witness the 9 minute MGS2 trailer but I was not an active board member then. MGS2 got me into E3 hype but DMC1 got me to post in a message board. I still visit and post on the DMC board at IGN but its mostly dead now.. you can thank DmC for that. I joined GAF in 05-06 around the release of DMC3 because people told me this was the place to be.

"Console war has changed. iD tagged players play ID tagged games with ID tagged consoles. Gaming has changed. Endless proxy wars go between the Private Console Companies. Analysts call it Console War Economy. It's not about fun or time-killing. It's about proving the other side your console is best."

Console war has changed. When gaming becomes under control... console war becomes routine.

How are we going to post when GAF is down though

Nycfurby poverty chat man. Gonna have that and whatever Nintendo-GAF's IRC channel is up during the events. Maybe a few others up if I find out what's good with my net friends elsewhere.

Oh yeah, I always forget about Art's poverty chat, will definitely be there

I have an E3 tradition where I and a few Gaffers/IGN members/DMC get together to stream monster the conferences on MSN messenger. That was the service which was used back in the day so we kept at it. One of the best times I have had in my gaming career and we have been going strong for about a decade.

I suggest other people do the same, get on an IRC or NYCFurby poverty stream chat. Posting on Neogaf at that time is useless mostly because no discussion is taking place... its just a collection of knee jerk out bursts from posters you don't know and have never seen before. I mean a conference thread is literally no better than a FGC stream chat when some hype shit is going down.

Second declaration I've signed this week.

I can't wait to see how disappointing the Microsoft conference will be :D

Even more disappointing is if they show mostly 3rd party non exclusive games again like they have been doing for years now. Why the fuck would you think that's a good idea.

People are really stupid. Numerous folks saw the CoD: Ghosts premier and said "I am getting an XBone for this!" even though its multiplatform. It's a smart marketing tactic for the masses.

Granted, Xbone is going to have early access to CoD DLC just like this gen. If you like CoD it'll probably be a good platform to choose.

It seems like they'll have plenty of exclusives to show because of money hatting and the DRM stuff.

I'm sure poor sales will change that tune eventually :p

I mostly care about fighting games though so yeah lol not touching that shit on xbone. On the other side of the coin, ps4 streaming.... soooo good for fighting games :D Well that is unless your connection sucks x.x/ Dat bandwith.

But first a worthwile fighting game needs to come out for it only game on the horizon I care for at the moment is GGXrd but that's almost 2 years away most likely. Bleh

Posted? I've been away most of the week so apologies if so:

Capcom E3 streaming schedule:

Tuesday, June 11
1:00 p.m., Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara
2:00 p.m., Lost Planet 3 multiplayer
3:00 p.m., TBD
4:00 p.m., DuckTales Remastered

Wednesday, June 12
12:00 p.m., Project X Zone
1:00 p.m., Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara
2:00 p.m., Lost Planet 3 multiplayer
3:00 p.m., DuckTales Remastered
4:00 p.m., Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies live Q&A with producer Eshiro-san

Thursday, June 13
1:00 p.m., Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara
2:00 p.m., Lost Planet 3 multiplayer
3:00 p.m., DuckTales Remastered
4:00 p.m., TBD

Note that these two slots are more likely the same game, and the "big surprise" Capcom has suggested. Which is probably Dead Rising. But just throwing this out there.

Just caught up on the Tekken Revolution thing. Sounds like it could be a success, sounds pretty boring though, not really ballsy or anything either. And of course it sounds like a nightmare model for TOs and fighting game enthusiasts. Maybe it'll have an option for TOs, who knows.

Does kaz still play any fighting games? I don't remember if he dropped sf4 like nemo

I haven't seen him play SF4 in a bit but I believe he still plays. I've seen him quite a bit recently for Guilty Gear though repping that Order Sol. He's does work for his team in the latest Mikado team tournament. Speaking of which:

6/6/2013 Mikado 3v3 Tournament
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6

Strong play as per usual. FAB's team was so stacked he didn't even have to play in the finals with Kissha/Kazuki/Kazunoko doing all the work. There is one oddity in part 5 however and that is Satou playing Testament!?

6/7/2013 Acho Singles Ranbat Tournament
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNdxGiqpS_Y (39m)

Good Faust play from Defure he really walloped Rozu's Ky in the finals especially the last round. Ruu's Bridget also makes an appearance. I love the Rozu/Ruu match. Great spacing from both. A good bit of Anji/Slayer/Potemkin as well.

Another Guilty Bits episode has been released. This time featuring Axl.

I didn't realize wireless connections had gotten so good since the PS3's release. So used to that crappy, crappy non-N wireless.
The wireless built into ps3's was so fucking horrible. I have to wonder if that's half the reason people get that placebo effect of ps3 online being bad.

QisTopTier

XisBannedTier
It's the entire reason.

Well it's that and "I'm paying for online it has to be better why else would I be paying for it!?"
Not just the wireless.

But damn I really wish people that played fighting games would invest in a ethernet cord. Even if it's on the other side of the house just buy a long ass one plug it in when you use it and put it away when you are done. I did this for 2 years.

It is. Half the 360's on the market do not have built in wireless. You had to pay $100 for a wireless adapter when they first came out.

also buyer justification of "The servers" are better because we pay for them!
