In all honesty, it shouldn't really matter which version Link is based on since the moveset will be the same for the most part. Unless TP Link goes Wolf form, THEN we can talk.

Maturity, bitches.
It's the Hylian Shield. It's been pretty much the standard design in most 3D Zeldas barring Wind Waker.
If you look at the art you will notice there are differences between the TP and SS Hylian Shield designs. The metallic "snakes" by the Triforce are more angled in SS and the top of the shields have different designs.

I would love a tranformation-based link. Goron, Zora, Deku, Wolf. Oni Link as final smash.

The second male in that list is even creepier than the villager.

The second male in that list is Frank Sidebottom, I'm sure of it.

But the shield he's holding is clearly based on the TP Shield. Why would they do that if not as a nod to which version of the character it is?

I'm not saying he's Skyward Sword Link, just that a Skyward Sword costume really wouldn't work. They took TP Link and gave him colors closer to Skyward Sword Link (the chainmail makes that obvious, considering how it changed from TP Link's yellowish underarmor to Skyward Sword's silver chainmail, rather than just a brighter yellow). It's not really a directly translation of either Link's design, even if most smaller details came from Twilight Princess.

Straying away from Tri-force Slash is a good idea! I was more thinking of Valkenhayn from Blazblue for those of you who are familiar with him. Insane speed during transformation but is governed by a meter that drains and has to recover. Movement would be amazing too.

I wonder if Dillon(?) from The Rolling Western will get any representation? Or the little dude from Pushmo/Crashmo? I was playing Pushmo the other day thinking about him in Smash.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest that a Pushmo/Crashmo level is fairly likely. Lots of fun stuff they can do with that.

I like how new Bowser is actually, you know, menacing.

Imagine new Giga Bowser.

There might be some SS influence, but I'd rather see it as TP Link applied into the SSB4 art direction. :p
SS Link needs to be in as a special alternative costume. Considering that ALttP/ALbtW Link will most likely assume the Young Link position, all major Links (ALttP, OoT, WW, TP) will have a representation in the series, except for the Zelda I and SS ones. :(

Bowser doesn't only look more menacing, but his revamped moves means I'll actually use him this time around. Can't wait to set up some good fanfiction fights.

So likelihood of that hideous Mewthree monstrosity being the new Mewtwo/Lucario?

It's just a Mewtwo form. If Mewtwo is in, it will probably be able to change into it through some kind of mechanic (Down Special / Post-Final Smash / Final Smash / something).

The problem is that the colors would be too similar. At a distance, with the current Smash Link and Skyward Sword Link in the same artstyle, the only visible difference would be the baggy pants, I can't see that working. An alternate color scheme closer to Twilight Princess just seems more likely to me, especially considering how we had OoT colors for TP Zelda in Brawl and an original LoZ Link color for Wind Waker Link.

I suppose this is a possibility -- though it would pass the implication that the regular one is the SS one, in which case it will simply be strange that they chose to give him the TP shield.

Now that I'm thinking about it, have we seen his characteristic TP moves yet? In the end, that would be the most determining feature between the two. If he has the Gale Boomerang and Clawshot, he'd definitely be the TP Link. Actually Skyward Sword
has no boomerang
! Could that be the reason?

Edit:

Yep, that's the TP bow.

Why does it look as if wft had bigger boobs in that pic?

Behold the power of the Wii U.

As each Smash is kind of a love letter to the previous gen, I think we will get a lot of Wii-related characters or stages. Wii Fit Trainer already set the precedent, and Mii is super obvious. I'm trying to think of worthwhile characters that popped up on the Wii though. Rosalina? Ghirahim? Dude from Xenoblade? Other characters also became a bit more prominent during that time, like the Toads and Funky Kong (best racer in MKWii). One great thing about there being a lot of Wii references is that we are definitely getting a Galaxy stage with its music.

Game of the show along with MGS5 for me. Getting the 3DS version but the WiiU version looks pretty great too I love how they are tuning the graphics for that one.

I hope they fix Link's tunic physics, tho. They look terrible.

I thought Link in this was based of his SS model. Is there any reason to believe he is based of the TP model?

Also, bomberman is the perfect character to be added.

The leather gauntlets, and left-handed sword handling.

I was convinced they'd use SS Link here as well - then I forgot TP set the new standard for visual fidelity at the time, and Smash takes after that artstyle.

Anything from Rhytym Heaven would be delightful.

Goku and Naruto are ridiculous, but why do you included Digimon on the same category? It's a great game series and a traditional rival to Pokémon that is making big steps on Nintendo's platform these days. On top of that, Bamco (owner of the Digimon brand) is helping on the development. Unlikely as it may be, I don't find it a ridiculous suggestion.
No digimon, go away! :p

Honestly, I think it's just a placeholder Link for the trailer and showings.

I really don't think so, especially with that castle shot in the trailer which is probably part of a CG opening. The actual model is new, it's not just the Brawl model.

So what's the deal with Samus this time around? I remember in the Nintendo Direct they said she was designed based off of Other M Samus? Never played Other M but I know a lot of people hated Samus in that game. Some fans might not be too happy bout that.

Is she gonna be short-haired Samus? And more importantly, will she talk? :3

She seems to talk, but unfortunately uses has her American accent. :(
I'm actually not sure if this is final (for the PAL version that is), since is may just be due to the voice-overs not having been done. She used an American English accent in the other European language trailers as well, although she speaks Japanese in the JP trailer.

The game was terribad, but it wasn't because of her design.
