Is Gamestop warring with Microsoft?

If I ran a Gamestop I'd make sure my employees notified as many customers as possible about the Xbone DRM mostly so none of them come back complaining when I tell them they can't trade their shit in or why I'm offering such a low price or something.

Also wouldn't be surprised if the directive from above ends up being to push the PS4. It makes sense too and they're free to do it. Microsoft is the one who could have avoided all of this.

Holy crap that video is at 11mil views already

And now we're all fans of Gamestop who would fuck any of you for a dollar profit as well as take money from Devs leaving you with an opened "new" copy. GAF being GAF.

It doesn't really matter. Amazon, bestbuy, walmart and target will be happy to sell Gamestop's allocation.
That's what I was thinking. I don't imagine Microsoft is thrilled about Gamestop employees crapping on their console. I hope Gamestop doesn't expect any retail sales from Microsoft products now, or ever again.

I would think Gamestop needs Microsoft more than Microsoft needs Gamestop.

well not really...yet
The anti-xbox sentiment has spread pretty far beyond the insulated videogame blogosphere. Its getting traction in the media, people outside are talking about it. I can't believe the amount of Xbox only owneres that I know that have chosen to go ps4 only and have already preordered...

I called a couple Gamestops after the MS conference, the both answered the phone with a spiel trading in used games. I called later that evening before close to check on PS3 pre-sale, same opening. The next day, after the PS4 price was announced, I called and was greeted with "Thank you for calling Gamestop where you can pre-order the PS4." or something close to it. I think it's pretty obvious which system they are going to be pushing.

X1 has the potential to be like PSPgo...

That's what I feel when people talk about MS trying to create the digital future. I say be patient and let the digital future happen. Yeah, it will, but let it come, don't try wall us in it. It is possible that by the end of this generation enough people will have made the jump themselves so gamestop is being screwed naturally by market forces and "spring sales" not only by Steam, but by PSN and Live.

But let the costumer get there themselves. That is all.

Same here. Even if they do drop it, i already know where their stance is. it's sad i feel like i'm letting something go but it's for the best.

Anyone notice in every single poll they're getting out numbered? I hope it reflects in real life as well.

I really hope this poll will reflect the buying habbits in the comming years. The Xbox One needs to fail hard, or the whole industry is going to follow Microsoft's policies if they're becoming even remotely successful with that.

Have you considered the possibility that they didn't lie, that they instead told the truth, but your brother's fiancée, not being a gamer herself, misremembered the exact details and told you they had told her something different from what they actually told her?

Just giving you a heads-up before you go to the store filled with righteous anger, planning to knock over a magazine rack or two.

No she gave it to us word for word, shes not a simpleton, she just doesn't play games. Besides, its not the only incident we've had with gamestop in relation to this, when I was inquiring about Xbox One preorders in another store yesterday I got a similar experience, the same thing with the No gamertag downloading and the lag of physical media etc.

Gamestop are pretty aggresively pushing the PS4 and putting the Xbox One down, it may not be a great system but what they're doing is still illegal.

Ok, fair enough.

Also, just wanted to say that I didn't mean to imply that she is stupid. I regularly misunderstand shit about topic I don't care or know anything about.

If that's true, Microsoft is probably going to back peddle real quick on whatever is upsetting GameStop specifically. That'll put a noticeable dent in platform sales won't it?

To be fair, they've done the same kind of shit in the past with other consoles. Last generation I heard plenty of stupid shit putting down one machine or another that was completely false.

I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that they just don't know as much as you'd expect them to because you're on GAF.

with so many clueless consumers, they must be warned in advanced of the restrictions involving the console

it's like cigarette warning labels, lol

If I worked for Gamestop I'd push the PS4 hard. The last thing you want is the Xbone doing well, GS losing money, followed by hard working people losing their jobs!

MS isn't going to tell them otherwise, they would lose big money without gamestop. If anything gamestop is putting pressure on MS to change their minds.

If I worked at Gamestop I'd push PS4 hard because it's what you expect from a video game system. Nothing worse than dealing with disgruntled customers. High return rate and poor customer service surveys hurt.

Every poll has been crazy skewed like that. IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku etc.

Just seems like the margin keeps getting wider and wider. I've even heard several of my friends that aren't even really gamers saying they want a PS4. So apparently word on this is getting out to the average consumer as well, which is nice to see.

This has nothing to do with Gamestop per se, but a guy I know who's not a hardcore gamer, but he does play games, started talking yesterday about how he's switching to PS4 next year "Because of all the Xbox bullshit." He wasn't any more specific than that. But it surprised me to hear a casual gamer talking like that.

I'm actually happy I'm not getting my PS4 through them. It just arrives at my doorstep. From E3 to my home.

No offense. But it seems like after you work there you're prone to get a worthless feeling to the whole idea of using their services. I ignored it all. The hobby was more important than the job. But I do ignore going in there a lot. I mean, I've seen employees who've worked with me multiple times get fired the next week. And after years of this you'd rather not have one get to know you're style of buying, selling, and reserving. Like its this whole "okay bro" concept.

I like opening my front door and seeing a box with my game ready for me. No questions asked.

I betcha there's some gamestop employee somewhere out there pushing XB1 to everyone they meet. And to them, they think they are right. Which is another reason to shop somewhere else.

I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that they just don't know as much as you'd expect them to because you're on GAF.

Its not just that though, I mean, I've got a family member who worked in HMV Ireland before the company went tits up, and granted while he's a gamer, a lot of the other staff were not, and yet they were always kept informed on the pertinent information to give a customer asking about a console.

If they don't know the information, they should say that instead of making something up. It could be a mistake or it could be gamestop trying to convince more people to buy PS4's so as to safeguard their Pre Owned games sales, which if they used truthful information would be understandable, but what they're doing right now is Illegal and in my personal opinion harms the image of the company for Real gamers. When I buy games from a retailer like GameStop I like to know that I can rely on recommendations from the staff when it comes to hardware or Games of which I have little knowledge, I have no problem when they don't know about either but if they make up blatantly obvious lies then I don't want to trust their judgement when it comes to games recommendation.

I'm probably going to get shit because of the fact I actually like the Xbox One, and while I dislike the DRM features, I don't understand this Huge debacle over it. Any time I've bought a second hand game and talked about it on GAF or other forums I'm told to buy the game retail so the developer gets money. And now that Microsoft actually make it so that in the select places you sell it back w/e the developer does get money, the entirety of the World explodes in outrage. Not to mention that considering its mostly up to the publishers the level of DRM placed on games Microsoft can't be entirely to blame.

Nah. You're gonna get shit because of the fact that you don't know what you are talking about, and you're making shit up in your zealous crusade as a MS apologist.

...and the Master Chief avatar. I mean, you make it too easy.

...

You're trying to say Microsoft isn't to blame for building this shit into their own system? Ha ha...no.

Nobody made Microsoft build-in these DRM systems into their system except Microsoft. CBOAT said Microsoft approached devs about the scheme, not the other way around. E3 comments from the various heads of publishing houses seem to reflect this as well.

Nobody made Microsoft institute the 24 hr./1 hr. DRM check-in except Microsoft.

Nobody made Microsoft put so much emphasis on the cloud, which most people realize by now is just another excuse for a DRM scheme. Microsoft did that.

Nobody made Microsoft require Kinect.

That being said, I seriously doubt sony will be able to deliver everything they said about lack of DRM.

Uh huh. I'm sure you do.

Microsoft doesnt need biggest game retailer where gamers buy games and consoles?

Gamestop is $9,000,000,000/yr business.

and do you think other stores are telling their customers any different?

How does Amazon calculate this? how many days do they cycle this ranking? (obviously these systems have not outsold the other items 'lifetime').

The PS4 launch day is probably falling since its been sold out since Jack mic dropped MS, and the xbone is still creeping along. But I have no idea if this is daily, 2 days / 3 days etc?

anyone?

All that says to me is that I can still buy a launch day Xbone 3 days after pre-orders opened, but I'm SOL for a launch day PS4.
Actually they were also out of day one X1 , they just restocked yesterday.

regardless I believe both launch will be sold out

PS4 Launch Edition was actually on top of Amazon ever since it was put up. It dropped after it sold out. I'm guessing people are either waiting for more Launch editions or slowly push the Standard edition up.

I can't believe how MS is still going through with this, it's insane how they are at a disadvantage so far.

gamestop must inform their customers anyway because just imagine the shit storm at their doors once people buy the xbox one and find out all the things they no longer can do and rush back to return it.

Note the PS4 launch day and regular editions are #2 and #3, so the PS4's volumes are split. On only see the 360 launch edition there. (The Xbox One standard edition is #37.)

Edit: and the launch day edition is sold out on the PS4.

I would cheer them on. Go Gamestop!

When the Xbox One launches they should give fliers and have huge warning posters letting people know what they're getting into when they buy it.

Not very smart if they want Microsoft to be one of their partners where people can trade-in games.

That would make sense.

Microsoft needs them pretty bad. Walmart isn't in any position to be told by Microsoft how and what to do. Amazon is doing just fine and doesn't need to conform to MSs used game policies and tech..

IMO, Microsoft needs GameStop more than GameStop needs Microsoft...

You just need to notice PS4 games and even the Eye Camera which no one want apparently is out ranking Xbox One controller and games.

They're just protecting their interests.

But they're going to need to figure out a long term plan regardless because in 15 years, gaming will be all digital anyway.
