Gamestop PS4 preorder reserve slots more than double of XB1?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but how do these launch allocations line up with last gen numbers? (360, ps3, wii)

I can't say directly but I lived near one of those huge flagship GS stores. They only had 20 ps2 for preorder to begin with and then it was cut back to 10 when Sony couldn't meet demand

Low stock. A subsidised edition would have been announced at E3. They would have wanted the sticker price boost of $299.

The only situation that I think would have prevented that would be third party subsidized model deals (cable companies for example) that haven't been worked out in time but you're right, they probably wouldn't have even announced the price if they foresaw a subsidized model coming in the near future.

I think going by GS numbers can be misleading. I really think MS is going to be pushing mass market more. Walmart, Target, Toys r us, Amazon and bestbuy could see much higher allocations than GS. Nintendo does that and MS vould be following suit. I remember when I was a buyer for EBGames the arguments our Nintendo buyer had with Nintendo that we were getting 1/10 of the allocation Toys R us got.

Not sure if this is the place to mention it, but I went back to Amazon and noticed that 'launch ps4' has been replaced with 'standard ps4' which are the same units but standard is not guaranteed to ship immediately when ps4 is released. I preordered a 'launch version' so hopefully I will have one sent out in the first wave.

I hope this anecdotal evidence will also be reflected in real sales numbers. It would be great if MS falls flat on their nose with their bullshit. Probably the first time ever where I actively hope one console fails.

tbh i rather have microsoft around. we need more push for games even if microsoft does moneyhat. it allows for more games from both end.

All this will lead to is MS claiming Xbox One is so hot that its limited on the shelves ala Wii. Sellouts/shortages.hot item = Good press

Check you email. Also if you highlight each version on that page, it should note one as having been purchased.

what is the biggest launch to date?
How is the demand measuring up to the PS2 or PS1?
i googled this

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Biggest_game_system_launches

I think the PS2 wins (1.3mio on the first WE only with USA, UK and Japan) if you take all Regions first day/week sales together and doing as if the Console launched on the same day world wide.

Today we have a much more people pre ordering stuff.

Its a little hard to believe some of the numbers been thrown around in here. They're really high.

The Wii had a preorder limit of 50 units per store and the PS3 16.

Sony is doing a big Smartphone like launch :D

Smartphones like Galaxy S4 or Iphone have shown that firms can sell millions of a device Day 1, why should it be different for a console if they didn´t fuck up the Hardware Design? I am not saying that PS4 will get Iphone/GalaxyS4 First week like sales, that would be to optimistic :>

Moo needs to post that, I'm interested.

Bare in mind it's UK only, though it is the second largest region - but it's all I have easy access to. I might be able to secure the data for the entire company though.

Regardless - it'll be tomorrow afternoon before I can post anything.

Pretty much, get as many of those things out there as possible, and still be reliable of course. Sony is a lot more prepared for this than anybody, especially MS, was expecting. You imagine on day one in the US the user base for the PS4 is 3-4 times larger than the Xbox? That should only keep growing, and doesn't even consider other markets.

Spoke with someone at my local EBGames (same company as Gamestop), and he says every time they hit their allocation limit it gets increased so they think MS is just trying to generate demand by making people think the numbers are low.

I've never liked two consoles being essentially the same from 2 different manufacturers. The price of the extra console you need to experience all the games you're interested in is probably more than any benefit you get from increased competition (since the sole console would still compete with PC and other forms of entertainment).

Kinda like Bluray and HDDVD. Everyone seemed to agree the movie market wasn't big enough for 2 competing format, but for some reason the gaming market is? I really wouldn't bat an eye if one of the manufacturers exited the market.

Eh, dunno if I buy that. I don't think MS would turn away $100 preorders just to create a vague demand spike.

Every single console that Sony and MS produces this holiday will be sold.

So we might have on our hands the biggest console launch if the demand and supply is there this time (and the preorder allocations seems to indicate ample supply).

You're right, it is hard to extrapolate off of Gamestop numbers alone. But I would be surprised if the other big retailers weren't clamoring for every console they can get from Sony.

They should send you an email. They're the same apparently

Just picked up my copy of The Last of Us. The Gamestop is in central Massachusetts in a fairly sized strip mall. They had 8 Xbox One and right now 50 PS4 slots. Apparently they keep getting told they can add more PS4 slots.

Just picked up The Last of Us at Gamestop in South Florida. The guy at the counter said initially they had 6 XBone and 24 PS4 slots, but recently got bumped up to 22 XBone and 66 PS4.

Also, I got ID'd for The Last of Us. I'm 29.

When I picked up TLOU today the manager also said there allotment for PS4 increased today. He didn't mention XBone, but I specifically asked about PS4. I also asked if it was Sony increasing their numbers, he said no he didn't think so, and that he thought that Gamestop was already given a specific amount(quite large it seems), and then based on what stores were performing the best with reserves, they were given more. Another wards Gamestop is holding back a portion of their allotment.

I don't know about consoles, but they are my favourite online retailer for games. I must have bought something like 15 games from them and a bunch of PSN/XBL codes. I'm from continental Europe and I got some launch games something like 2 days after launch, since they ship earlier for the customers out of UK because of shipping delays. In contrast, my PlayAsia shipments took 15-20 days to arrive. And I never paid customs duty on Shopto stuff, while I did on 1 of the 2 games I bought from PlayAsia. I know a bunch of people who bought a lot of stuff from Shopto and everybody loves them. The only issue they had was one time when their security certificate got breached and people's CC info got stolen. I know one person who had a lot of money stolen in that incident, although Shopto claimed that was their payment processing company's fault.

Shopto are outstanding online game retailers. They have nice track record.
Yeah I get all my games from them apart from a few GAME exclusives, but I've always pre-ordered from a store and linedup for console launches, this is the first time I've done it online so, just wondering how they are, thanks

But PS4 is going to be equally sold out and not sitting on store shelves. Worldwide launch, super high demand.

If that happens I think Microsoft will just raise the white flag and flog the division to Samsung. Investors have always hated the Xbox division.

Exactly, people keep forgetting several of their big time investors have wanted to shut down the xbox division in the past, even with the 360 being profitable. It's just not profitable enough in their eyes to justify the huge resources invested into it, not to mention the multiple billions they lost on the xb1. If xbone bombs hard enough to warrant a new console in 5 years it's more likely they exit the business than actually go through with such a quick relaunch.

I have a good friend that is a Manager at Gamestop and he informed me that so far, every morning they receive additional quantity to reserve for the PS4. He then said that normally around noon or so they get additional quantity for the X1. They did have one day where they did not get additional X1 allocation, but the next day they were allowed to have more.

He was shocked at how many they have been allowed to sell for both platforms and at this particular location he had more X1's than PS4's reserved (as of this morning). While I was there 2 people came in to pre-order, 1 was for the PS4 and one for the X1. He said they are getting a lot of calls and for his store it is a great sign that there is so much interest in both of the consoles.

It seems like each location is different because the other store in-town he told me had almost a 3:1 X1 over the PS4, but in his store it was a close with a bit more X1's, but nothing to make a big deal out of. The last thing he told me was that X1 pre-orders for games was much higher, which continues the 360's attach rate history and seems to be applying to the X1. Again, this is early, so not drawing any definitive numbers.

That's odd, because it's completely opposite of what the story is online for many of the largest retailers. PS4's outselling X1's, PS4 software outselling X1, etc.

Launch should be extremely interesting.

But online retailers are much different than what's going on at the ground level. There are gamestops, best buys, and walmarts in many different areas.

Each area can have a different demographic. Just like the poster you quoted stated in on area the Xbone has higher preorder.

Most of the stories on this site point the the PS4 is ahead in other areas. You have to take it on a store by store basis. Like you said Launch will be interesting. Make no mistake. Both of these consoles will sell out when they launch for the rest of the year.

I posted this news in a thread yesterday. My local Gamestop had 25 PS4s and 8 Ones that they could fill. They may be able to increase that number based on demand.

If Sony ends up winning in NA then the One is truly fucked. It would almost be PS2 levels of domination for Sony.

Basicaly. Because they sure as hell aren't winning Europe. And Japan... Well, better not mention it to MS execs. Losing US would be catastrophic to MS.

They need to keep their eyes on the ball which is trying to compete against the likes of Apple and Google, the real threat to their OS cashcow, some people think they can just spend all their cash to prop up the xbone when things go south but their cash is much better spent elsewhere than on a game industry they don't really give a shit about.

My local EB said they have 70 pre-orders for the PS4 so far, first allocation, didn't ask about the xbone.

They're looking beyond the video game console. MS believes what happened with the smart phone will happen in the living room. There will be a convergence of all devices into a single device. XB1 is the stepping stone to the next set top box.

People get too caught up in "winning" and "losing".

The Wii and PS3 sold more units than the 360 worldwide but do you think MS thought they "lost" last gen? Im pretty sure they did pretty well with the number of games and Gold subscriptions they sold.

If they can pull enough people into their ecosystem to turn a profit i dont think they will see it as losing.

My GameStop said they are able to order an unlimited amount of PS4s but only a certain amount of XBONES. I'm guessing that is bull shit but I was around the 20th person so I am hoping I can get a PS4 day one. We will see though..

fwiw Major Nelson tweeted out that they added more allocation to their store and Amazon

Larry Hryb ‏@majornelson
Just released: more #XboxOne Day One Editions are available for pre-order: MS Store http://mjr.mn/MSStoreDay1 or Amazon http://mjr.mn/Xboxone

Kind of funny you can still get a launch guaranteed unit. I figured all the pre-orders would be gone the night they went up. Guess I'm still in the mind set of how badly the 360 and Wii were launched

They're looking beyond the video game console. MS believes what happened with the smart phone will happen in the living room. There will be a convergence of all devices into a single device. XB1 is the stepping stone to the next set top box.

On one hand, you can think like this:
After Apple launched the iphone, google created the android, and many other companies copied after. Currently, smartphones are everywhere, and the old phone is mostly dead. If XB1 is the stepping stone, other box manufacturers will attempt to create the same type of thing, and gaming boxes will change forever.

On the other hand, you can think like this:
XB1 has a decent idea in creating an all in one box, but there's no way that all other box makers will stick a gaming machine in their product to compete(the exception being social games). My FIOS box can play some games, but they're not putting hardcore titles on it, and the same with the cable box I had before it.

I would like to point out that initially, Sony did try to market the PS3 as a media box that played some great games(bluray player that plays games). That initially went over like a lead balloon due to the price. As time went on, when bluray beat out HDDVD, more people decided that it's a gaming machine with a pretty good bluray player in it.
Sony also tried a shared computing concept first. The PS3 promise was that the box, when connected to the net, could find other PS3 consoles, and borrow processing power as needed from consoles which were not using all of the power of the cell. Ultimately, this was used most for the Folding at Home project, and nothing else.

What MS is doing now is just an evolution of some of these concepts IMO.

Maybe thats why the XBone will launch only in 22(?) countries. Microsoft knows that they can't produce enough so they focus on countries where they have (had?) an established market. It wouldn't suprise me if its really sold out this holiday. (Because they didn't even supply that many units.)
