I understand that, theoretically, Studio Deen can make an acceptable anime series. Theoretically.

I certainly enjoyed the director's earlier work, House of Five Leaves, so I hope that this will turn out well.

Ok FMP! Another. I think I'm starting to get what you're trying to do, and I think I'm ok with that.

Another, at least in its first volume, is telling a much smaller, more light hearted story than the original FMP!. Hell, the main conflict right out the gate is whether

Tatsuya's one month of training with D.O.M.S. is enough for him to pass Mao's test and join as a proper member of the team. The final battle is the test, and not a single person dies in the entire book.

I've come to terms with the fact that Another isn't going to try and emulate FMP!, and I think that's led to me enjoying the second half of the first volume a helluva lot more than I was expecting.

Bring on volume 2.

In lieu of that, I was thinking of preparing an external hard drive full of totally legally acquired weird-ass anime to watch in the hotel room with some of my friends during the time where we'd normally be checking out video rooms. I've already grabbed a few off "the list" like Dark Cat, Mad bull 34, Musashi Gundoh, and Glass Fleet. All those scratch the right itch, but I'm looking for a few more selects. Preferably, nothing that shows up on my MAL. Thanks!

Yeah, it's being translated at the pace of one volume peer week and I think the first season covered the first 16 volumes (its an ongoing series with 30 published volumes). The manga's great though and definitely worth checking out.

- as silly and nonsensical as the episode was at times, it was still a mechanically sound ending, with various elements seeded throughout the show coming together in one cohesive whole. The shonen-time conversation in the beginning is a throwback to the post-squidsacre speech Chamber tosses out, for example; it's a consistent logical foundation to just what he does and this goes all the way down to the amore like 3/4 of the episode in.

- Basically, everything you expect to happen happened, but it never felt like it was cheating to get there. When the

happens, it doesn't come as a surprise, but in that lack of surprise is assurance that it wasn't just an asspull.

- I'm going to assume that many things are going to get fixed for the BD box release. There's some nice cuts involving two doughty-thighed cg robots shooting things at each other, but otherwise the episode was filled with off-model art and other such doodads. Those explosions looked nice, though. It was a mixed bag and I wish this final send-off for the series looked a little more complete.

The best of the episodes not technically focused on Domon or Rain, this one is all about Sai. Sai Saici also gives Domon the 2nd to 3rd best fight in the entire series. His ARMS GET BLOWN OFF and what does he do? KEEPS ON FIGHTING. He uses a technique so powerful that he manages to beat the Burning God Finger with it.

This is also the episode that first made me consider that Master Asia might be Sai Saici's father. Considering

Argh, I can't take this anymore. This lazy and uninspired direction with amateur writing is killing me. I don't think I can put up with it just to get another episode 9 type of climax. It just doesn't seem worth it. Plus I don't know, they are focusing on other girls beside Fuko now? What the hell is the point in watching the show then?

I think I will go and tackle other shows in my backlog and maybe come back to this later.

If you can't put up with it to get to another episode 9 climax, put up with it to get to After Story. It will all be worth it.
