Kino's Journey 5

This episode was filled to the brim with social commentary. Particularly with the three railroad workers.
It's interesting that one of them believed the country where work was rendered meaningless was ridiculous, when in fact his own work was just as meaningless. That society believes it has perfected a regulation system for its resources wherein quantifiable stress is the the basis for socio-economic status; I mean, he's just restoring railroads that are actually being taken down and replaced, but he doesn't know it. Is 'ignorance is bliss' the takeaway from this story? I was moreso mulling over the notion of 'the necessity of stress' and its role in keeping man in the ideal condition. Over in the last country of this episode, Kino and Hermes come across the results of a self-exterminated society. It closely resembles Plato's ideas on democracy in Republic, with the last surviving citizen being exemplary of a person totally unfit to hold any sort of political power/leadership. He's impulsive and self-centered to the extent of holding the traveling duo at gun-point for the sake of his own loneliness. It's another look at the sad side of human nature, made all the more insulting when Kino and Hermes turn his political system on its head and cause him to commit suicide. But focusing on Kino for a second, it's interesting that she truly doesn't have a destination or a purpose for traveling. She just travels for the sake of traveling. She lives and breathes it, giving no answer to the people she meets and feels that there is no right or wrong choice in approaching the unknown.

Damnit GAF, you've led me to the Dark Side!

Never been interested in anime (only watched DBZ, Pokémon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-OH as a kid) and now I have suddenly been corrupted.

Whaaa? Those rankings are fair!

Papercraft is too high, but otherwise, spot on.

Good man. I gotta support my early pick though.

How can you have Yoshinon and Tohka so low. Origami is low tier.

Because Yoshinon's puppet shtick got boring quick and Tohka is basically a golden retriever with how often she begs for attention. Wan wan.

Origami is fucking garbage tier. At least she knows what she wants though. Meh.

I give you kudos for at respecting her determination.

It's difficult to dislike Origami because she makes me all hot and bothered.

Awwww yeah!

She also fucking killed Shido. Points deducted.

Considering it was a man that she shot, she got bonus points from me. :D

Oh noes, the mascots were discovered by Kenta and Miyasako! Well, it was bound to happen sometime. It's not like they've ever been all that careful about staying hidden.

Thankfully, everyone's favourite comedy duo didn't stick around to get a closer look at the mascots after their first glimpse - they were so freaked out that they ran for it. They still got a good enough look that Miyasako was able to draw a pretty damn accurate picture of all four of them, though (for a guy with no confidence, he certainly has a lot of talents). And thanks to this picture, the whole town quickly becomes obsessed with these adorable yet mysterious creatures. Thanks to an old guy identifying them as some folklorish mystical beast of the area, they become known throughout the town as "Miminga".

Saki and Mai, of course, aren't too pleased about this development, since OH NO THREATENING THE MASQUERADE. But they quickly come up with a clever plan to stop it - Mai puts together some adorable hand-puppets of the mascots, and they convince everyone that what Kenta and Miyasako saw was really just the two of them practicing a puppet show. Nice thinking!

Oh, and at the end of the episode it turns out that
there really is a strange Miminga creature in the forest that looks remarkably similar to Flappy and Choppy. But nobody discovers it, so it's okay!
lol.

What's wrong with Sword Art Online?

Oh god, don't get people started on what's wrong with SAO in this thread. Half the people here seem to think it's some kind of crime against humanity.

Personally I think it's a fine, enjoyable series (though Accel World is totally better).

For anyone too lazy to translate German, Zurückspulen roughly means "to rewind" or "to wind back." An appopriate subtitle for the nature of the new series, I guess, even if it sounds absolutely hilarious to a non-native speaker.

Glancing back at the animegaf survey, looks like there was only one person there who knew German anyway.

Also, I'm glad that TBS is starting to cut back on the simulcast delays, but fuck them for only holding back Rozen Maiden a half day yet hitting C3-bu with the four-day-delay stick.

What's wrong with Sword Art Online?

A lot of things. lol. It's pretty bad. It has the most idealistic image of a teenage female girl catering to the whims of the most overpowered male protagonist I've seen in recent history. Not only that but he tries to separate the world in the VR and the real one while inadvertently combining the two out of natural habits effectively making them the same. The other characters also have no logic as they seem to play along with the MC's whims. There is a significant amount of fanservice. Tons of still images and not enough actual animation. Lots of things. lol.

I'm exaggerating btw.

Nice! WIll watch for sure.

Accel World episode 23-24
Finally,
Was a pretty good entrance even if she didn't do much.
Got more pissed at Chiyuri for a second, guess in the end she was redeemed a little
Megumi's glare in the background killed me.
overall an enjoyable show but man did that span from episodes15-23 feel like a completely different show.

along with Scarlet Rain were probably my favorite designs of the series.

Any word on another season?

Chiyo SUCKS. Nomi tried to ruin the show too. Its still pretty awesome. I think they did announce a S2. Or at least they better fuckin have!

The winning designs for the NASA anime character contest look great, I like this one.

These kinda....suck. Terribly.

Ninjas aren't real. GAF spitting truths. :( lo

Been listening to the Date a Live OST for awhile now.

Rain in the Park

Date a Live Orchestra

Really love the soundtrack and I hope S2 will continue to have splendid music as well.

It did have a surprisingly great soundtrack but even bad shows have that these days.

Crunchyroll also got studio GAINAX’s latest production, Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class C3

WIll watch also.

The Devil Is A Part-Timer - Series

So this show was a lot of fun. Some really great humor and I enjoyed the characters. It was definitely better when it wasn't focused on action but I don't think it ever really went full-on battle anime anyway. Something about the delivery of this show was great. Haven't watched a comedy like this in a while, honestly.

Chiho was best girl.

Hoping for a second season.

Now time to watch Gargantia properly. I stopped at like Episode 3. =\

You've come to the correct conclusion.

Ojamajo Doremi 19

Hadzuki gets kidnapped.... easily, so we have a mix of stupidity and ingenuity on her part.

This episode actually reminds me that there was only one case of a Precure being held hostage by average joes, and on both accounts "They're not bad people". It's kind of weird to see something like this happen in a children's show, but it does give them the opportunity to give us a reason on why they're doing what they did.Although Ojamajo's case didn't end with them being arrested, but it probably helps that only those who work at Mahodou really knew, whereas Futari wa, it was a bank robbery, so they didn't have much of a choice.

Feels like Hadzuki gets a lot of attention from these episodes, whereas Doremi's episodes consists of her getting thrown under a bus by the end of it.

Anyway despite being kidnapped, it's clear that Hadzuki gave very little fucks about actually being kidnapped, even laughing at one point when Doremi and Ai failed to stop the kidnappers. It seems she's willing to put everyone's well being before hers, as seen in the last episode, to the point that she doesn't really care if something happens to herself.

What's wrong with Sword Art Online?

It's a stupid show that's moderately okay for 14 episodes, then they introduce a horrible new character who single handedly ruins the entire rest of the show.

If you do watch it, stop at episode 14 and skip directly to episode 25. The eleven episodes between are really, really, absolutely, unequivocally awful.

I cannot stress that enough: If you do watch Sword Art Online, don't watch those eleven episodes. No good comes of it. You may think I'm saying "Push the Red Button" when I say "Do not push the red button" but as someone who once thought the same thing, let me tell you: DON'T PUSH THE RED BUTTON.

oh man, this OP. It's just clips from the actual show with some filters applied. wow

Well, that worked for Kino's journey and Haibane Renmei.

Kotori was nice. Still Kurumi for the win

Kurumi > Kotori = Tohka >> Mana >>> Yoshino >>>>>> some random character > another random character >>>>>>> Origami.

This list is generally correct except Reine isnt in it. Origami is totally worst, even behind Mana.

People ranking Origami at the bottom, for shame!

========================

Date A Live - 12

Glad they didn't wuss out and have the kiss take place off screen. Looking forward to next season.

Ranks at the close of season 1:

Kotori > Kurumi = Origami > Reine > Yoshinon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tohka

That's some Dynasty Warriors swag right there!

Sexy doesnt sell to me. Cute does. The other character are cuter. Reine is way cuter than Paper folding-tan. TOhka is one of the most adorable even though shes clingy and annoying.

I think i'll finally do the last 4 eps of Date a Live tonight so I can update my rankings.

Cant wait to see them!

Shame she is wasted on boy like Haru. She deserves better.

While thats true, the love she has for Haru throughout is adorable and sweet. Plus her figurine hugging the pig Haru is just WAY TOO SQUEE.

This episode was definitely very interesting. You can kind of see some of the continuity I was alluding to earlier. The shows about to get even better though. Its just excellence throughout. Everything about it. Such a special show! Regarding Kino's reason for travelling, well, keep watching.

Damnit GAF, you've led me to the Dark Side!

Im glad you were able to open up to what else anime has to offer. Its a whole lot more than just those shows. Theres some really great stuff (and some truly terrible stuff too)

It is a crime. but it was actually half of a decent show. I refuse to acknowledge anything past episode 15 though.

Its truly terrible. Truly. The first half is much better and would have been acceptable were it not for the complete ass pull in the middle.

Gargantia worth starting up?

Absolutely! As soon as you are able! Its a very pleasant watch. There is even belly dance sakuga. Praise kamisama!

It's from the upcoming OVA based on DAL Encore stories.

Hoping there's more just to see bunny girl Tohka and Kurumi in her best dress.

Hoooooly shit. Yes. Definitely yes!
