Sony Announces Q1 Results

Any software numbers for specific titles? I'd like to know how TLOU fared compared to their other first party offerings.

Also, no details regarding PSN revenue? How is PS+ adoption rate?

Any news regarding the PS4? I'm guessing the launch shipment numbers will probably be released in the next quarterly report?

I must be reading it wrong - the Game division isn't reporting a 149 million dollars in operating loss, right?

Operating loss increased 11.2 billion yen year-on-year to 14.8 billion yen (149 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase in loss was primarily due to an increase in research and development expenses related to the upcoming introduction of the PS4, and a benefit recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year due to the reversal of a Blu-ray Disc patent royalty accrual.

i don't know shit about the bluray stuff, but most companies post losses/less profit when they're about to introduce a new product in this industry due to the r&d.

Terrible result for portable hardware, and game segment operating loss.

Wonder how the result for the overall company measures up to expectations.

Gotta hide that Vita shame behind PSP numbers lol

lol

Still, probably safe to assume Vita demolished the WiiU world wide. That really isn't saying much.

Back of a cig packet calculation: PSP sold about 100k units in Japan this quarter. Let's say there's 50k units sold between the rest of the world. That leaves 450k units for the Vita. Not good numbers, by any means (3DS sold 800k in Japan alone in that time), but still large enough to make a mockery out of the WiiU.

The gaming side just can't turn a profit anymore, apparently.

Well, end of a generation with the highest cost console, a stagnating portable, and R&D and marketing into a new generation that they can't at this second make money on. Makes sense.

LOL GG Sony. Guess it's time to spin off the Gaming side so the investors can stop sinking money into this Titanic sized company named SCE. You all better get on board the MS train if you know what's good for you.

They will probably just combine them with the PS3 numbers.

PS3- 1.1m
360- 1.0m

I guess PS3 isn't so comfortable to outsell X360

I'm sure PS3 outsold 360 more than 100k this month to consumers, but there was a lot of PS3 on shelves, so it didnt ship that much. This period of the year is very slow and retailers are not gonna overstock themselves.

Right. "The significant increase in loss was primarily due to an increase in research and development expenses related to the release of the PS4"-financial statement notes

Developing the PS4 wasn't free, you know. But to answer your question, yes it will probably be sold at a loss like all non Nintendo consoles are upon release.

Selling at a lost not a problem the question going to be how much .
Along with how fast they can make the hardware it self profitable .

Fair enough. I remember people being up in arms with Nintendo posting a loss last year before the Wii U launched, so I wanted to be sure. Thank you for the clarification.

So the 81mil PS3 vs 78mil 360 figure includes a few months of PS2 sales as well? Guess we may never know who won the gen (or rather who lost it) for sure then. Probably is more or less tied though.

The good news is that the TV division is profitable now apparently.

$35 Million is fairly impressive for a company that was in red last year or the year before. Can't wait to see the first quarter after the PS4 launch.

Looks good to me considering R&D costs for the PS4. I think Sony has gotta be happy with those PS3 numbers considering where the system was a year ago. I can't believe the Wii still outsells the Wii U. ouch

Good luck with that 5.0 million portable projection Sony. You can join Nintendo in the looney bin

I wonder if the game division will profit in the next 5 years for an actual FY
